THE WIRE Project: Start Over with GMMR

Since THE WIRE wrapped up its fifth and final season in 2008, I have been astonished at the overwhelming praise it still receives from long time viewers. Though the show’s audience was much smaller than other HBO hits, such as THE SOPRANOS, I hear far more references to The Wire from TV critics and enthusiasts than its counterpart in New Jersey.
If personal favorites like Bill Simmons from ESPN, Jimmy Pardo from Never Not Funny, Alan Sepinwall from HitFix, and Teresa Strasser from The Adam Carolla Show ALL think it’s brilliant, then I should enjoy it, right? It’s like the transitive property they taught us in math class, applied to the world of entertainment.
Revisiting shows with passionate fan bases is a GIVE ME MY REMOTE tradition. Kath embraced her inner Sci-Fi fan by conquering Supernatural & Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In those instances, our fearless leader put her DVD player to the test by watching every episode in those series’ archives.
ARMY WIVES: Jill Biden and Her Hooker Boots are Hitting Lifetime (Television for Women)

My favorite (second?) lady, Mrs. Dr. Jill Biden, is adding another job to her already long and illustrious list of responsibilities: actress.
Jill (or Dr. JB, as I like to call her), the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will make a cameo appearance on Lifetime’s ARMY WIVES this coming August.
And, okay, fine, she probably won’t be rocking those hooker boots that she wore at the Inauguration last year… though I would like to make a special request that the VP’s lady at least consider it.
Biden, hoping to draw support for the many military families that endure great sacrifices for the good of the country, will be playing herself on an episode titled “Mud, Sweat and Tears” in which she’ll visit Fort Marshall, the fictional Army base on AW.

KATHY GRIFFIN: MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST: Kathy Judges a Kiddie Pageant, Tells the Ugly Ones They’re Not Cutting the Mustard
June 23, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, Kathy Griffin
Oh, alright, fine, Kathy didn’t say any such thing straight to the faces of the fuglies in the kiddie pageant that she guest judged on Tuesday (June 22) night’s episode of KATHY GRIFFIN: MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST.
But she did suggest that her mother, a fellow panelist, do so.
Of course, Maggie Griffin, being a class act, didn’t utter the mustard commentary to anyone’s face either.
But we heard it. And that’s really all that matters.
K. Griffin killed it once again in the “Toddlers and Remodelers” episode of her series.
The highlights, in my opinion?
When she likened her appearances on entertainment newsmagazine THE INSIDER to the work of CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
When she likened the “faux finish” on her “tired” fireplace to her face.
When she likened the big pile of dust, old boards and broken glass — created during her home’s remodel — to her vagina after a long weekend.
And then, of course, there were her antics at the aforementioned baby and toddler pageant… or, as she described it, “where they take the little kids like JonBenet Ramsey and they put the crazy whore makeup on ’em.”
Kathy experienced — and orchestrated — so many glorious moments at said event, choosing just one is far too difficult.
What did you really appreciate most? The three-year-old stripper who dropped half her swimwear in a more seductive manner than most 30-year-olds are capable of? The 40-something moms making damn fools of themselves as they wildly gesticulated and gestured in the audience, mimicking the movements of their young children onstage? Or was it, once again, K.G. that did it for you: Stripping down to a diaper in order to spray tan properly, taking glitter advice from a toddler diva and showing those baby bitches how it’s really done with a strut that shamed the so-called “experts”?
Seriously, Kathy so earned that Miss — wait, what was it called? Miss Old?? Miss Over 45? — well, anyway, she totally earned the award they gave her.
Congratulations, K. Griff.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: So Emily is Gay but Hanna’s Boyfriend is Too, Right?!
June 23, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, Pretty Little Liars
Alright, so, I haven’t really taken the time to thumb through the PRETTY LITTLE LIARS book series, so it’s quite possible that several of you readers know whether or not my headline is true.
Am I way off base?
That poor preacher’s kid is in the closet, yes?
Hanna is throwing herself at a gay boy?
Poor girl. Your rejection has nothing to do with your former plus-size figure! Stop crying! Go steal another pair of sunglasses or something instead.
Sighhhh.
No, but seriously, can we talk about Tuesday (June 22) night’s PLL?
There are a few other discussion topics I’d like to hit:
– Who is this Toby dude? And why did he save Emily from her stupid b/f’s attempted locker raping? He must be a good guy. Yes? No?
– Tell me you noticed that the show has cast not one, but two ONE TREE HILL psychos? Both crazy Nanny Carrie (Spencer’s bitchy sister played by Torrey DeVitto) and the trigger-happy single white female who shot Quinn and Clay (Aria’s dad’s mistress played by Amanda Schull) are once again portraying a$$faces onscreen!
– We totally want Aria and her hot teacher, as well as Spencer and her sister’s ex-fiance, to hump, right? The sexual tension has been established. So, are we ready for a little, uh, boom boom pow now?

AMERICAN IDOL’s Andrew Garcia Loves His Fellow Finalists, is Thankful For Pete Wentz

Comments Off on AMERICAN IDOL’s Andrew Garcia Loves His Fellow Finalists, is Thankful For Pete Wentz
As AMERICAN IDOL season 9 contestant Andrew Garcia tells it, AI is all about the love.
Sure, AI isn’t a reality show where participants go looking for love — because clearly that works out so well — but they apparently find it in the relationships they form with each other.
If you peeped our video of the Top 10 singing Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” last week, you may have noticed Garcia dancing with this season’s winner, Lee DeWyze — the two were doing a move that Garcia says they might duplicate on tour — and yeah, it seemed quite clear that these kids (gasp) actually get along.
But there are other perks from Andrew’s run on the show.
Fans of IDOL know that he didn’t necessarily have the easiest time of it, but taking chances with songs did pay off in an unexpected way for him… in the form of praise from FALL OUT BOY’s Pete Wentz.
How did that all happen? Garcia gives us the scoop…
