PARTY DOWN Fans Take to Twitter to Lament its Cancelation

June 30, 2010 by

So STARZ announced the cancelation of original comedy series PARTY DOWN this morning, which isn’t a huge surprise considering its dismal ratings, but it still sucks for those who bothered to tune in and became attached to the very funny show.

Sighhhh.

It’s heartbreaking when solid work doesn’t equal success. A sizable audience was never reached by PD, but it was still beloved by many and we figured we should listen as a few of them speak their minds today…

ShmittenKitten‎: They cancelled Party Down? WTF x a million. Nooooooooooo! #partydown

andygreenwald‎: RT @CKlosterman: The fact that Starz just canceled PARTY DOWN makes me want to blow up my TV, followed by the entire state of California.

ChadBrownRVA‎: Starz has canceledParty Down,’ further proving the point that most great TV shows just don’t last long enough.

samuelfscott‎: Not Party Down, it’s awesome & not even on NZ tv yet RT @melanielynskey:#PartyDown being cancelled is sad sad news. This is a real RDD.

taporsnapradio‎: RT @MichaelDavSmith: Very sad that Party Down was canceled. Some great shows never find an audience. And yet Two and a Half Men thrives.

esc_key‎: RT @the_meghatron: Starz has cancelled Party Down. I weep for the future of television.

sendmorecops‎: RT @rikilindhome: What, @MartinStarrParty Down is cancelled? I’m seriously bummed… Let’s demand a Party Down movie! #starzfail

allisahn‎: so lame party down was cancelled.

maxbehmer‎: Party Down canceled – WTF???? Great show, very sad!

EvieJeff
‎: Starz just cancelled Party Down. Big surprise. Every fantastic show gets smothered out of existence. Ugh! I will miss it!

keithcalder‎: I feel responsible for Party Down being cancelled. It’s one of those shows I kept meaning to watch, but never got around to.

Ah, that last one just says it all, no?
Got your own thoughts on the axing of PARTY DOWN?

Good riddance! If only 74,000 people cared to watch the show it really didn’t deserve to continue.

For all of you Party Down fans out there, I thought maybe you’d get a kick out of this.

I don’t have STARZ, so I’ve never seen the show.

I’m sad. It’s funny, smart, original and was available to view on Netflix as well as Starz. I guess, at least the whole gang was back for the last episode. yay…

I am sincerely bummed about the cancellation of Party Down. Someone should rescue it and Better Off Ted and put both on in an hour long comedy block (USA Network or TBS, are you listening?) I will miss the great one liners, terrific comedic chops, and engaging actors and guest stars. The show will be missed, but at least they got two seats in (just like BOT)!

OOPS, I meant two seasons (not seats)…

I’m so annoyed about this! And people keep harping on the 74,000-viewers thing. Hello, it’s on effing STARZ. The vast majority of the TV-watching public doesn’t have Starz. I pay $150 a month for cable, and even I don’t have Starz. I’m amazed they have ANY viewers. A lot of people watch it on Netflix. If it was more widely available (and maybe on at a time other than 10pm on Friday), I’m sure it would pick up viewers. Anyway, I’m all for the Party Down movie idea!

Addressing the 74,000 viewers for the finale issue: the finale was available on-demand for 2 weeks BEFORE it actually aired. I watched it on a preview channel on Direct TV on June 13. It aired June 25. There are TONS of people who watched it before it actually aired, before anyone was counting. And I don’t even have Starz in my package. I watch Party Down on Netflix streaming, like scores of others. Starz only has 17(ish) million subscribers to HBO’s 40+ million. I’m amazed it’s survived.

Lots of others would love to see it on another network– even without Adam Scott, who’s since moved on to Parks & Rec. The Save Party Down Facebook group is a testament to that, and is growing more and more….

so number of viewers = quality of a show? if you’re not trolling and you seriously believe that you should kill yourself for being hopelessly stupid.
