THE BACHELORETTE WTF Moment of the Week: Kasey Edition

June 22, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Bachelorette

Confession: I watch THE BACHELORETTE. Yes, it’s my (not-so-)secret guilty pleasure.

But even though I’m into the show, I recognize its absurdity too. That’s half the fun.

So we at  GIVE ME MY REMOTE are launching a weekly feature to highlight the THE BACHELORETTE’s biggest WTF moments.

This week?

Well… After Ali told Kasey that she wasn’t sure how sincere his vow to protect her heart was, he responded by immediately running out and getting a tattoo of a heart protected by a shield — which included 11 studs, 11 being the number of guys competing for Ali at the time of the inking — with a rose intertwined. Kasey did not show Ali the tattoo right away, but we knew the reveal was coming.

Cut to last night’s (June 21) episode. Ali went on a two-on-one date with Kasey and Justin. When their alone time came, Kasey of course unveiled his permanent body art. And while Kasey certainly didn’t get an overwhelmingly positive reaction to it, Ali wasn’t entirely negative either. She was more… neutral.

Um, really?

Was she just trying to be nice? Or, I mean, I don’t know, I’m so confused.

That freak permanently scarred his body for someone he barely knows!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: In The Bag

The post-Saracen era began this week on FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, as the focus returned to Coach Taylor’s challenge to build a new team.  Many of East Dillon’s players grew up without father figures, including Lions quarterback Vince Howard.  Beyond the lessons of X’s and O’s, these young men have built walls of distrust that their coach must tear down.

More on Eric Taylor’s confrontation with Vince later, with a clip that captures the sharp writing and fearless acting that serves as the foundation of this series…

Fatherhood was the epicenter of this episode, as we watched the daunting responsibility of raising children bring out the best & worst in the men of Dillon, Texas.  A few weeks ago, I theorized that finding the heroes of FNL was as easy as following the traditions of respect and good manners.  It is no surprise that discerning good Dads from bad Dads may also be done by separating truth from fiction.

Tim Riggins knows what poor parenting looks like.  His Dad left Dillon for a life of honky tonk bars and golf course hustles long ago, and Tim is not willing to see Becky suffer with false expectations like he and Billy did.  All season, casual viewers could have easily perceived Tim & Becky’s storyline to be one of mutual attraction or romantic inevitability.

AMERICAN IDOL’s Casey James and Aaron Kelly Talk Touring, Getting Underwear Thrown at Them

June 21, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Aaron Kelly, American Idol

AMERICAN IDOL contestants Casey James and Aaron Kelly may encounter some safety concerns while on tour this summer.

The ladies were quite fond of these two during their run on the series, so we can definitely see some t-shirt-tearing and undergarment-throwing in their future.

On the bright side, one of them is actually prepared for it. James tells GIVE ME MY REMOTE that he’s dealt with this sort of adoration in the past — shocker — so Kelly is looking to him for advice on the subject.

Not gonna lie, their exchange is kinda adorable.

Peep the vid below…

AMERICAN IDOL’s Didi Benami: I Want to Work with Kara DioGuardi!

June 21, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol, TV News

AMERICAN IDOL’s Didi Benami is feeling your affection.

When GIVE ME MY REMOTE tweeted that we’d be spending the day with the AI Season 9 Top 10, the overwhelming response was, “tell Didi we love her!”

Done and done.

And her reply? She loves you guys, too.

In fact, she is practically beaming as she talks about her devoted Twitter followers in the video below.

Adorable.

What else did we discuss with Benami?

Her upcoming album, of course. She says she’s been doing a lot of writing since she got kicked off AMERICAN IDOL and she’d really like to collaborate with a certain IDOL judge.

“I would love to work with Kara [DioGuardi on my album],” Benami says. “I haven’t talked with her about working with her or anything like that. But I have actually been working with Jason [Reeves, who cowrote “Terrified” with DioGuardi, which Benami performed on AI] a little bit. We’ve been writing since I got off the show.”

And will Benami be performing “Terrified” on the tour? She answers that and more below…

THE GATES and SCOUNDRELS have now debuted, so what did you think?

ABC’s new summer fare, THE GATES and SCOUNDRELS, debuted last night to decent ratings, with the former scoring just under 4.65 million viewers and the latter grabbing about 5.17.

The premieres definitely gave the alphabet net a bump up above last year’s numbers at this same time.

But we’re still dying to hear your thoughts on the hours.

Did you watch?

Will you continue to?

Which series did you like better and why?

Rachel Berry, watch your back.

FOX has confirmed to GIVE ME MY REMOTE that Charice — Oprah’s favorite teenage singing sensation — will join GLEE in a recurring role as a foreign exchange student this fall.

There were rumors earlier in the month that she had landed a part on the FOX series, but Charice immediately shot them down via Twitter. But now, things have changed.  “When d rumor came out, it wasn’t true,” she tweeted. “But then after thatI tried to audition. And i made it!!! Let’s Party!!!!”

Never heard Charice sing before? Check out these pipes…

HAPPY TOWN: The Magic Man to be Revealed as the Series Wraps Online

June 21, 2010 by

ABC’s HAPPY TOWN — the mystery show that had many making TWIN PEAKS comparisons — will wrap up online, as the final two episodes will be available for viewing on ABC.com.

The network pulled the low-rated series rather quickly after its late April debut, but it returned in June with more installments.

Fans will have to hit the internets, however, to see the last couple hours.

Executive producer Josh Appelbaum tells GIVE ME MY REMOTE that there is some good news, though: “We answer the biggest question of the series:  ‘Who is the Magic Man?’  That will be revealed in the final moments of the finale.”

Appelbaums says that reveal was also intended to be the show’s first season cliffhanger, had HAPPY TOWN been renewed. The revelation was meant to shake the foundation of the series.  But, even though we wont be able to see the repercussions of it in a season two, Appelbaum feels people will be really satisfied with how they end the last ep. “If you’ve been playing along with the show, your mind should be blown by the final moments,” he tells us.

So, thoughts?

Will you hit ABC.com to peep HAPPY TOWN’s conclusion?

TRUE BLOOD Will Be Back for a Fourth Season

No surprise here, as TRUE BLOOD is pretty much the hottest thing HBO has going right now, but yes, the cable net confirms that the Alan Ball vampire series starring Anna Paquin will return next year for a fourth season.

Sweet, no?

How long do you see TB running for? With so many characters enjoying eternal life… er, well, sort of…

GOSSIP GIRL: Meet Chuck Bass’ new babe

Move out the way, Little J. Blair Waldorf’s apparently got a new GOSSIP GIRL nemesis coming this fall.

The casting of HARRY POTTER actress Clemence Poesy as Chuck Bass’ latest lady friend — first reported by The Wrap — has been confirmed.

Word is, The Basstard will meet Poesy’s character, Eva, in gay Paris and she’ll first appear during the season premiere.

Eva — who’s apparently warm and loving, though you’d never be able to tell from the photo above — is said to be sticking around for several episodes.

So, what do you think?

DROP DEAD DIVA: The Long Road to Napa

June 21, 2010 by
Filed under Drop Dead Diva, Posts by Sarah (Seels)

Derma-guac could be huge. That is one lesson we learned from this episode of Drop Dead Diva. Another lesson might be not to purchase the exact same watch for your wife, your other wife, and your future wife, and a third might be to know that a sealed unused pregnancy test does not actually mean a woman is pregnant. A lot of lessons going on in this episode.

How did you like it? I have to say that of the three so far this year, it’s probably my least favorite. Even though it was REALLY great to see David Sutcliffe back on TV, the rest of the episode didn’t feel quite right to me. But as Jane said, no one likes to come in third. Speaking of Jane, I think her actions and reactions were what threw me off the most during this week’s ep. But more on that later.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Lessons: Alexie Agdeppa Gets Down with GMMR’s Korbi Ghosh

Alexie Agdeppa may have been eliminated from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE this past week, for being “too cute,” but she’s still doin’ her thing, yo.

Hang out and watch as she gives me a lesson in movement and I, um, make a complete fool of myself…

AMERICAN IDOL Season 10 Audition Cities Announced, Seacrest Reveals ‘Big Change’ To Come

June 21, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, American Idol

America, warm up those vocal chords.

We may have crowned the season 9 winner of AMERICAN IDOL less than a month ago, but host Ryan Seacrest just tweeted that the audition cities for the tenth season have been finalized.

On the short list? Nashville, TN; Milwaukee, WI; New Orleans, LA; East Rutherford, NJ; Austin, TX and San Francisco, CA.

Seacrest also teased that a “big change” will be announced on Monday (June 21).

Any guesses on what that could be? We’re wondering if it’s contestant-related… maybe changing the age limit? Or, perhaps, a new judge will be announced.

We’d love to hear your theories in the comments…

UPDATE 9:35 A.M. ET: As suspected, seems producers have decided to lower the qualifying age from 16 to 15… so, thoughts?

THE GATES: Get your craving for the supernatural satiated on Sundays

June 19, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Gates, TV News

THE GATES.

You were seeing short promos for this new series during the commercial breaks of your favorite ABC programs throughout the spring. You may have spotted a few billboards pimping it or, perhaps, you spied the face of star Rhona Mitra on a city bus as it recently passed you by.

But you’re still confused.

What is THE GATES? Is it about vampires? Is it about werewolves? Is it a supernatural series? Is it any good?!

The answer is, yes.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

THE GATES basically follows the Monohan family as they move into an exclusive community that, at first, may seem a bit “Stepford Wifey” with all its outward perfection. But what we — and Nick Monohan, the neighborhood’s new Chief of Police — soon realize is that there’s a whole lot of crazy going on behind the closed doors of this place.

In fact, a man goes missing during Nick’s first day on the job, and the audience isn’t left wondering how and why. We actually get to watch as one of the show’s main characters bites into the soon-to-be missing person, drains his body of blood and then stores him in her freezer for a bit. You know, until her husband comes home and figures out what she’s done, no big deal…

We then follow the developing story as the new Chief of Police attempts to catch up.

Meanwhile, there’s a whole slew of other fairly interesting characters — both adults and teens — navigating their own issues and, as in any small community, most everyone seems somehow affected or connected to all of them.

Of course, the potential for these storylines to come off as campy and unrealistic — especially considering that most of them involve a heavy dose of the supernatural — is great. But THE GATES is surprisingly well done. The writing is solid. The characters are pretty well-crafted. And the fact that it’s not at all convoluted, despite how large the ensemble cast is, is pretty impressive.

So, yes, THE GATES. I’d give it a shot on Sunday. Sound good?

THE GATES premieres Sunday, June 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC
