Syfy Adds New TV Memorabilia Reality Show

June 16, 2010 by

Oh, yes, just what TV nerds need… another reason to stay home at night.

EW’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that Syfy has ordered HUNTING HOLLYWOOD, a documentary-style series which showcases hard core memorabilia collectors on the prowl for rare items.

Joe Maddalena — owner of Profiles in History, a popular memorabilia auctioneer — will host the series.

Sucks that we’ll clearly be wasting more of our hard-earned cash, hitting up eBay after episodes finish, trying to find cool props and stuff too.

Whatever, you know there’s some sort of TV or movie thing that you’re dying to own. If you could get your hands on something specific, what would it be?

First Look At Syfy’s HAVEN

Are we the only ones really excited for HAVEN?

As you’ll see in the preview below, Haven, Maine is a small town with a lot of secrets. Emily Rose plays Agent Audrey Parker, an outsider who comes to town on a routine case, but, of course, it all goes awry.

Also on board is Eric Balfour, who plays a mysterious stranger — you’ll see he has the “WTF does he mean?!” lines in the promo — and Lucas Bryant plays a local cop.

Take a look…

Syfy will be debuting the new original series — loosely based on Stephen King’s novella “The Colorado Kid” — on Friday, July 9 at 10.

You’ve made it to the middle of the week – only two more days until the long awaited weekend. Lucky for you there is some fabulous and fun TV on tonight which should make making it to Thursday that much more bearable. Some of our favorite reality shows have new eps tonight and some of the Fall staples are airing reruns. But don’t forget, if you’ve never seen it…it’s NEW to you!

Here are just a few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup. Tell us what YOU are watching in the comments below or tweet us @GMMRTV.

So You Think You Can Dance | 8pm on Fox
“Performance Night”
The top 11 finalists are paired with their all-star dancers and perform. [GMMR: I know we haven’t talked much SYTYCD over the past two weeks, but that’s going to change.  After this week I’m taking a break from traveling so expect new SYTYCD podcasts, full coverage of the performance shows, and a little extra something for all you fans…more on that soon.]

TV’s Greatest Surprises: A Paley Center for Media Special | 8pm on CBS
Jeff Probst counts down the 30 biggest surprises in prime-time TV history; the shows’ stars and producers discuss the stories behind the shocking events. [GMMR: So many great moments to choose from, no doubt, but if Jim declaring his love for Pam and then coming back for that great kiss to end S2 of THE OFFICE doesn’t make the list, well then it might be phooey.  Yeah, I said it…phooey! What moments do YOU think should make the list?]

Top Chef | 9pm on Bravo | Season Premiere
“House of Chef-presentatives”
The premiere of Season 7 is served up, with 17 new culinary artisans infiltrating the nation’s capital. In their first elimination challenge, they must prepare food fare that best represents themselves and their home region. Chef Eric Ripert is a new series judge. [GMMR: I’m about as far away from a foodie as you can get, but I’m still mesmerized by the concoctions that these chefs pull out of their, um…kitchens.]

THE OFFICE’s B.J. Novak Hosts The Webby Awards

Comments Off on THE OFFICE’s B.J. Novak Hosts The Webby Awards

B.J. Novak is an actor, writer, executive producer on THE OFFICE, Harvard grad, stand-up comedian, and now he can add host of The Webby Awards to his long list of accomplishments.

The Webby Awards, held last night in New York City, honor excellence on the Internet (hmm, didn’t get my invite).  Unlike other stuffy award ceremonies, winners take to the stage to share their 5-word acceptance speeches.  “I’d like to thank God” is only five words, but I don’t think you’ll be hearing much of that uttered here.  Although “Steve Jobs is a God” might be uttered a few times.

Check out B.J.’s opening monologue during which he takes on Facebook users, tells us just how he misuses Twitter, and forces Pandora to face its insecurities.

Funny stuff, Temp!

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: Play Favorites

June 16, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Pretty Little Liars

We’re now two weeks and two hours into ABC Family’s PRETTY LITTLE LIARS and it’s time to play favorites.

Which little liar are you liking most?

There’s Aria (Lucy Hale).

She’s back home after a year abroad with the family, still dealing with anger towards her father, whose past infidelity she’s helping to hide.

School is complicated too, as she finds herself hot for teacher.

There’s Emily (Shay Mitchell).

She’s the sweet one whom you can tell your secrets to. She’s on the swim team, she’s got a boyfriend and she’s becoming close with the new girl on the block.

…Maybe a little closer than her b/f would like.

There’s Hanna (Ashley Benson).

She’s the formerly full-figured friend who’s now fallen comfortably into the pretty, popular role that ‘A’ used to play.

She’s a fan of the five-finger discount.

There’s Spencer (Troian Avery Bellisario).

She’s the Type A, overachieving chick, managing major family expectations.

She can’t seem to keep her hands off big sister’s boyfriends and — surprise! — she’s just been caught in the act.

Ready to choose?

KATHY GRIFFIN: MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST’s Season 6 Premiere Delivered, Don’t You Agree?

June 16, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Kathy Griffin

She’s baaaaaack.

It’s summer, bitches.

We know because Kathy Griffin’s MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST returned Tuesday (June 15) with an all-new episode and we were once again reminded why we’ve got such a thing for that crazy loon.

The sixth season premiere centered around Kathy’s guest starring role on LAW & ORDER: SVU, which allowed for a string of antics from her that we had not previously seen.

Highlights?

– When executive producer Neal Baer told her that her character would be a lesbian and the following commentary ensued: “So what kind of lesbian am I gonna be playing? A tough sort of Mary Cheney type? Or more of a softer lesbian like Clay Aiken?”

– When she decked herself out as the “lesbian Al Sharpton” — faux fur coat and all — and showed up to set insisting that “lipstick” and “glam” — a la Portia de Rossi — was the way to go.

– When she threatened to kick the writer in the balls should he insinuate anything untoward about her wardrobe choices… or Cher.

– When she was picked up by her hired driver and she greeted him with, “Mike, how was your day off, you f-ck?”

– When she had cast member Ice-T chyroned as “(TV COP/A REFRESHING DRINK)”!

– When she threw herself at Chris Meloni during a rehearsal and explained his rebuffing of her advances with “Chris Meloni is playing ‘The Rules’ with me — ‘member that book, ‘The Rules’ — where he thinks the more he ignores me, the more I’m going to go for him… And I will.”

Of course, there were the Liza Minelli segments as well. And can I just say, didn’t Ms. Minelli look good? And lucid too? …I don’t know why, I always think of her as being a wack job… but she seems cool. And her laugh is indeed infectious. What did Kathy say? So infectious she might need a Sars mask?

My favorite moment came at the very end of their time together, when Liza grabbed Kathy’s hand and bowed her head and Kath’s immediate reaction was, “We’re not going to do a prayer circle, are we? ‘Cause I’m not technically a dancer.”

Love her.

Love. Love. Love.

Only complaint?

What the hell happened to our theme song?

We heart that theme song, but it’s apparently M.I.A. now.

Shall we honor its passing with an online singalong?

Shut up, you know you want to…

GET OUT OF MY WAY, YOU A-LIST BORES!
MY PRADA SHOES ARE AS GOOD AS YOURS!
I WORKED TWICE AS HARD TO GET HALF AS FAR AS YOU!
CAUSE THERE AIN’T NO ASS TO KISS!
WHEN YOU’RE LIVING LIFE ON THE D-LIST!

What’d you guys think of Kathy’s sixth season premiere? Talk to me…

37 Reasons Neil Patrick Harris is Awesome… and Legendary Too

We’ve loved him since he was but a young boy in Hollywood, but today, on Neil Patrick Harris’ 37th birthday, we toast a man, and tell him exactly why we think he’s tops…

1. He’s been killing it since day one: NPH garnered a Golden Globe nod for his very first film role. If you haven’t seen the kid sporting oversized glasses and a sweet Jamaican accent in CLARA’S HEART, Netflix it right now.

2. He’s a visionary. As Doogie, he made blogging cool, way back in the 80s.

3. He’s a magician, yo. NPH serves on the Board of Directors for Hollywood’s esteemed Magic Castle.

4. He made Old Spice commercials cool before the this dude did:

5. He’s not ashamed of his love of reality TV, stopping by the BIG BROTHER house, guest judging AMERICAN IDOL, sitting in the audience of a REAL HOUSEWIVES: WATCH WHAT HAPPENS after show and excitedly accepting an actual immunity idol from SURVIVOR: CHINA.

6. While we love Reege, when NPH fills in on LIVE, we kind of feel like Philbin should retire.

7. He steps into the role of “Fairy” with swagger.

8. He looks damn good in a suit.

9. He’s a superhero, having played Peter Parker (SPIDERMAN), Barry Allen (THE FLASH), Dick Grayson and the Music Meister (BATMAN). Oh, and he’s also a member of the Evil League of Evil (DR. HORRIBLE), no big deal.

10. He got us to root against Nathan Fillion. Not easy.

11. Unlike some breakout stars, he remembers where he came from and is totally cool with it:

12. When he’s hosting, he has us actually tuning in to watch awards shows… and he keeps our attention when they go long.

13. Even when he’s not hosting an awards show, he’s asked to do the opening number.

14. He took on Simon Cowell and lived to tell the tale.

15. He’s not afraid to play an ass, a la his HAROLD & KUMAR character.

16. He manages to make misogyny likable.

17. He has us wanting to make out with his face. All of us. Everyone’s in agreement here. Even the straight dudes.

18. How many other guys break into LES MIS during a talk show appearance? (You know, other than Jason Segel)

19. He’s the mastermind behind this: http://accomplicetheshow.com/

20. He’s the reason we watched Prop 8: The musical.

21. His birthday wish list includes a map to One-Eyed Willie’s treasure, a giant labyrinth hedge maze, a goose that lays gold eggs, a working (and authentic) fortune teller booth, plus Danielle Staub’s sex tape (Blu-Ray only). Oh, and some socks.

22. His weapon of choice is song. Whether he’s up against Will Schuester in that epic “Dream On” battle or taking on Captain Hammer in “A Man’s Gotta Do,” he’s a warrior.

23. He gave little boys everywhere an excuse to rent STARSHIP TROOPERS, telling their mom it wasn’t because of Denise Richards.

24. He’s our favorite Mr. Sandman, enough said.

25. He’s the only person we know who might possibly be able to pull off a RENT stage show starring Vanessa Hudgens.

26. He’s going to make THE SMURFS cool again…

27. He has us daydreaming about carrying his children. Seriously. Even some of our moms have expressed interest.

28. He jumped on Twitter and, in 24 hours, acquired over 60,000 followers. Current total: 554,348

29. He roots his peers on, instead of being all petty and competitive:

30. Disneyland still does it for him.

31. He’s not shy about accepting gifts as his current bio reads: It’s my birthday on Tuesday, June 15th. I will be very old, yet rakish. Send gifts to: 9000 W. Sunset Blvd. Suite 709, West Hollywood, CA 90069

32. His smile.

33. That hot partner of his.

34. Dude, he’s an 80s child star, yet not in jail, nor dead!

35. He’s blazed a major trail for gay actors, proving it IS possible to be out and proud and still play whatever sort of roles you please.

36. He’s clearly soaking up his success and enjoying this ride.

37. At just 37-years-old, the kid is already legitimately legen — wait for it — …yeah, you know where this is going.

Happy Birthday, NPH…

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Stay

First crushes are sweet. They write silly notes in your yearbook about how corny your jokes are, not realizing it took three days for you to work up the courage to ask for their penmanship. First kisses are important for answering trivia questions down the road. Twelve years old, just before the lunch bell rang, behind the school sign. First loves, however, occupy a category all to themselves.

First loves allow you to see yourself through the kindness of their eyes, plan the loftiest of futures without hesitation or cynicism, and cry the heaviest tears you will ever shed. They are a refuge from the storms of teenage melodrama and family discord. When your future is wide open, uncompromised by tough struggles and bad experiences, it is easy to believe that your heart can and will always belong to that unique person.

This week’s Friday Night Lights showcased two young couples struggling to answer a fundamental question. How do you say goodbye to the first person, outside of your immediate family, who loved you unconditionally? The words are too painful to say out loud. Taking the first steps in a new direction feels like a path to ruin. Sometimes, the only way to let go is to close your eyes and put your foot on the gas.

PRIVATE PRACTICE Ups Brian Benben To Series Regular

June 15, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Private Practice

He may not have gotten Violet or Charlotte, but Dr. Sheldon Wallace isn’t going anywhere.

ABC confirms to GiveMeMyRemote.com that Brian Benben (Sheldon) has been promoted to a series regular for the upcoming fourth season of PRIVATE PRACTICE.

Since the Oceanside Wellness Group lost one of their own in the season finale, having an extra shrink around full-time does seem like a good idea.

Though seeing as this is a Shonda Rhimes show, we do have to wonder what lady he’ll be paired with next…

Any suggestions?

Whether it’s getting the latest TV news directly from the stars on the red carpet, live from the after parties or straight from the set of TV’s most popular series, Korbi and Marisa have got it covered.

Covering the day-to-day of television is nothing new for Korbi Ghosh. Most recently she authored the popular blog “Korbi TV” at Zap2it.com. Before that, she penned “Korbi’s Quickies” a TV column for E! Online. Ghosh is no stranger to being in front of the camera either. In addition to being a frequent guest commenter for the TV Guide Network, Korbi has guested on “Scrubs” and ABC Family’s hit show “Greek” and also hosted the popular “So You Think You Can Dance Buzz Sessions” for Yahoo! TV.

“As a longtime reader and admirer of Give Me My Remote, I’m beyond excited about the opportunity to jump on board and help take this already fantastic site to the next level,” says Ghosh. “GMMR has always been a place where those of us who love TV can go to get the latest news about our favorite shows and find a community of other TV geeks to talk with. I really look forward to being a part of the team that’s only going to enhance that online experience.”

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: Hour Two is Blinding

Filed under #1 featured, Pretty Little Liars

If you caught the premiere of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS on ABC Family last Tuesday (June 8), you already know the deal: Four high school girls, all keeping dark personal secrets, begin receiving mysterious and threatening messages, signed ‘A,’ which they can only assume are coming from their friend Alison who disappeared a year ago and was supposedly found dead.

But there is actually a sixth girl in this weaved web of lies and deceit: Jenna Cavanaugh. She’s the blind chick who had the other ladies all gasping for air when she showed up at Ali’s funeral.

So what’s the deal with her?

We’ll get more answers this week, but if you’re not brain dead, you’ve probably already guessed that our fearless five-some had something to do with J.C. losing her eyesight.

Indeed, I’m hearing something about fireworks gone wild — yeah. yikes. — but there is apparently much more to the story.

Will you turn your set to ABC Family Tuesday night (June 15) at 8 p.m. to find out what’s up?
