EUREKA’s Colin Ferguson Teases a Jack-Allison Hookup
July 30, 2010 by Marisa Roffman
A lot of will-they-won’t-they TV couples go through drama on their respective shows, but it’s hard to think of one that’s had a rougher go of it than EUREKA’s Allison and Jack.
Things, however, will soon start to look up for the duo. We chatted with series star Colin Ferguson at Comic Con last weekend and he told us about what’s to come…
I have to ask about Allison and Jack, because it’s been a little bit of a roller-coaster for those two over the years.
Colin Ferguson: Yeah. It has. She has another man’s baby. It’s a bit of a roller-coaster! [Laughs]
There have been a few obstacles…
CF: Yeah, [Jack] can get over it. Exactly. Whatever. If [he] loves her.
But does he love her?
CF: Yeah, he does. And hats off to [series creator] Jaime [Paglia], they really delayed [the Allison-Jack relationship]. One thing we said right out of the gate was we wanted to earn [the Jack-Allison relationship]. We didn’t want to hook up once ratings slumped, or something stupid. So to actually have us hook up when we do this year, when ratings are as good as they’ve ever been, is a testament to the arc that they wrote.
What can you tease for the fans about the upcoming hookup?
CF: Well, I can tease that we hookup. I can tease that it goes well. And then I can tease that [pause] it doesn’t go very well. [Laughs]
Which is fair.
CF: Which is fair. What we want to do, the whole goal of it is to deal with a relationship on a real level, where it’s not all great all the time. And there are fights and [we] sort of bring that into the workplace and see how that effects us relating and see if we can actually pull that off.
Will that change the entire dynamic for everyone around them, too?
CF: I’d imagine. Usually when a couple is fighting, it does. I’ve been in a room [where that has happened]. But I think what’s great about what [the writers] try to do, is they take their favorite movies and favorite things and say, what would a EUREKA version of that be? What would a EUREKA version of this be? We’re going to see what a EUREKA version of two people fighting in a relationship is going to be. And that’s going to be pretty cool, hopefully.
Are you excited that Allison and Jack are going to give their relationship a go?

I’ve always been mainly indifferent to the Jack/Allison relationship dance. The closest I’ve come to caring is that I really did feel bad for Jack when, a few seasons back, he had to return to Eureka’s standard reality after being together with Allison in the alternate reality. That had to be devastating for Carter.
I love them together. Mostly because they are always such great friends and always there for each other. Hoping this plays out happily. Plenty of other storylines left to pursue if they begin a real relationship.
This season has been absolutely stellar. I am loving the story arc, so much better than the more one-off episodes of last season. The characters have really come into their own as well.
