WHITE COLLAR: Matt Bomer on Losing Kate, the Peter-Neal Dynamic and Flashbacks

July 13, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, TV News, White Collar

When a character with as many issues as WHITE COLLAR’s Neal spends an entire season trying to find the love of his life and finally reunites with her, only to have that reunion blow up right in front of him — quite literally — where does he go from there?

Seems Matt Bomer (Neal) and the writers were on the same page, deciding that he isn’t going to sit around and wallow.

“If anything, [Neal]’ll overcompensate with the charm and humor to try and cover anything that is going on underneath,” Bomer says in the video below. “[It’s] not going to be three episodes of him crying about the death of the love of his life.”

Bomer, himself, is quite charming. Check out his thoughts on Peter and Neal’s relationship, why he’s excited about the potential flashback to their first meeting and what he thinks Neal “wants so bad” but can’t quite achieve…

WHITE COLLAR’s Tim DeKay Talks Season 2

July 13, 2010 by

Comments Off on WHITE COLLAR’s Tim DeKay Talks Season 2

When WHITE COLLAR ended last season, Peter pleaded with Neal, hoping to get him to stay in New York, and he succeeded. But Kate, Neal’s lady love, was blown up in the plane they were both supposed to be on… which, in our books, pretty much means Neal owes Peter his life, right?

We caught up with WHITE COLLAR star Tim DeKay (Peter) at a Paley Center event honoring the series and decided to run our little theory by him.

As you can see in the video below, he got super excited about it and interrupted WC creator, Jeff Eastin, mid-interview to share the idea.

Eastin played it cool and deflected, but we don’t think DeKay is going to let it go.

So, what will the new season — which bows tonight — bring?

Will Peter start the year with his badge?

And what’s his — awesome — goal for season 2?

Take a look…

GLEE Exclusive: Mike O’Malley Made Series Regular for Season 2, Plus More Show Intel…

July 13, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Glee, TV News

When I spoke to GLEE’s Mike O’Malley (Kurt’s dad, Burt Hummel) on Monday — in honor of his Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor — I got the feeling that the audience’s wish to see more of his character may be coming true.

But O’Malley couldn’t quite confirm anything.

Thankfully, I got some face time with his boss, executive producer Ryan Murphy, later in the day and he made the news official.

Mike O’Malley will indeed be a series regular for GLEE season 2.

This is a great thing for a wonderful guy whom writer/producer Brad Falchuk named immediately when I asked if there was a particular nomination — among the show’s whopping 19 — that they were really excited about.

You can see this for yourself in my full video interview with him, Murphy, and Ian Brennan below… along with the reveal of a whole slew of other semi-spoilers, such as the fate of Rachel and Finn’s relationship this season — they will be a legitimate couple all year long, despite struggling with their clear differences — and the fact that Puck and Quinn won’t be together, as Quinn has her own journey to navigate now that she’s sans baby — the guys say she’ll be back to her old, bitchy self while somehow managing to maintain BFF status with Mercedes.

And what about a Puck and Rachel reunion?

The show may go there again, Murphy shares. It’s definitely possible. But he promises that a duet between the two of them this season is a sure thing.

What else did I learn?

Well, most of the outrageous guest star rumors are completely untrue, especially since they intend to really keep the focus on their regular cast members this year.

Javier Bardem, however, is a huge fan of the show and Murphy will write something for him, because how do you say no to Javier Bardem?

There is also a Britney Spears episode in the works — which Brit Brit is not scheduled to appear in, as of now — but it will somehow put the spotlight on her. Murphy says it won’t be like the Madonna-themed ep — in which, 10 of the artist’s songs were worked into the hour — or like the Lady Gaga-themed ep — during which, the artist’s fashion sense was really put on display — but something rather unlike anything they’ve done before. And the very quotable ditz, Brittany (Heather Morris), will apparently take center stage for it, singing two entire songs.

The guys say there is absolutely nothing in the works with Justin Timberlake though, so JT will not be wooing Terri Schuester (Jessalyn Gilsig) this season. Terri will be back in the mix full time, however, devoting her day-to-day efforts to winning Will back. One of the ways she’ll try to do it? By getting involved with a dude who’s actually capable of making him jealous. Whom that guy is, though, is still a mystery at this moment.

Kristin Chenoweth, as we previously reported, will return and the boys are just crossing their fingers that they’ll get the chance to bring Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Idina Menzel back as well…

What do you think, whom would you guys most like to see on GLEE this season?

THE BACHELORETTE WTF Moment of the Week: ABC Promo Edition

July 13, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Bachelorette

Okay, ABC, I vented my frustrations over your spoilery ads and thought I’d worked through my anger.

But congratulations, your BACHELORETTE promos are so annoying, I’ve flipped out and decided to dedicate an entire WTF section to them.

Yes, I was upset that after several months of staying spoiler-free on which suitor was two-timing Ali with a lady-friend at home, you chose to reveal that Justin was the culprit in a promo airing just hours before the episode. But then you gave us a pretty CASTLE ad and blinded us with its awesomeness, so I was willing to forgive and forget.

However, this whole Frank situation is just completely uncool.

You first showed hints of real trouble for the Frank-Ali relationship two weeks ago in your “Coming up on THE BACHELOR” promo. It was the night that Justin got busted, so maybe you felt you needed to show that the drama and controversy will keep going? Who knows.

What I do know?

IT HAS BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE THAT PROMO FIRST AIRED AND THE AFOREMENTIONED DRAMA STILL HASN’T GONE DOWN.

Kristin Chenoweth Returning for GLEE Season 2

July 13, 2010 by

The writer/creators of GLEE — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan — were honored by the Paley Center for Media Monday night (July 12) and they spilled a season 2 spoiler: Kristin Chenoweth’s April Rhodes will be back for sure. Expect Chenoweth’s return to pop up early this fall, as Murphy says they’re beginning to write her episode now.

Cheno first appeared on GLEE not long after season 1 bowed, playing Will’s former high school crush who re-enrolled at McKinley and filled the empty New Directions spot left by an MIA Rachel. Her second appearance came this spring when April let the displaced New Directions singers use her rollerskating rink as a rehearsal space.

Now, as much as we love us some K.C., we’re a little worried about how they’ll bring the brilliant performer back once again. Because her first episode was strong, but her second episode was rather…meh. It felt to us like they rushed her character in, simply because they wanted more Cheno, not because the storyline had a burning need for more April.

But what do we know?

Maybe you enjoyed both of Kristin’s GLEE appearances.

Perhaps you’re super pumped to have April Rhodes back?

Vote in the poll below and explain your position on the subject in the comments section…

TRUE BLOOD Recap: 9 Crimes

July 12, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, True Blood

Rest easy, no necks were turned like corkscrews during the making of this episode.  Humans and vamps were tortured and killed, but that’s all good…as long as everyone’s neck stayed on straight. Only in the world of TRUE BLOOD, I tell ya.

What makes TRUE BLOOD stand out is that it’s a true ensemble show.  Although all the stories are interconnected, each character has their own plot line and motivations.  Sookie is off looking for Bill. Jessica is learning how to be a vampuman (should I copyright that?). Jason is wishing himself in a uniform and badge. Tara is doing her usual thing – getting kicked around by men.  Everyone has their lives to lead, and their worlds don’t just stop because Bill Compton has gone missing.

So just what is everyone in Bon Temps up to lately?  Nothing good. Of that I’m certain.

GLEE: Mike O’Malley on his Emmy Nom, Playing Opposite Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith

July 12, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Emmys, Glee

Mike O’Malley is a familiar face. The man has been in the TV business for quite some time, starring in CBS’s YES, DEAR for six seasons and recurring on shows like NBC’s MY NAME IS EARL and PARENTHOOD — and yes, he’s the dude in those Time Warner Cable commercials too — but some might say that O’Malley’s big break came just this past year when he was cast as Chris Colfer (Kurt)’s dad, Burt Hummel, in FOX’s breakout hit, GLEE.

Though the role involves quite a bit of comedy — something O’Malley is certainly used to doing — there was also a great deal of very difficult material this season, including Kurt telling his father that he is gay and the journey the two then followed.

O’Malley — a dad himself — did some work that really blew viewers away and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences took notice, nominating him for an Emmy in the Outstanding Guest Actor category this past Thursday.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE got some one-on-one time with him, so we could talk about the whole experience…

So, of course, the standard question: Where were you on Emmy nom morning and how did you find out you’d gotten the nod?
Mike O’Malley:
I was at my house and I found out by reading it on the site.

On the Academy’s site?
MO:
On the Academy’s site.

You’re kidding!
MO:
Well, I don’t have a publicist, so there was no one to call me! Had I waited a little bit longer, I’m sure my parents would’ve called me, because they’re on the East coast and they had heard. You know, people asked if I got up to watch the nomination [announcements] and I told them I’m usually up at 5 anyways, ’cause I’m old and I have to go to the bathroom.

Awesome. So, bathroom break, then you called your parents?
MO:
Well, no, actually the first thing I did was I went upstairs and told my wife. We have three little kids, [ages] 7, 5 and 3, and the three-year-old was in bed with us — he usually comes in early in the morning and falls back asleep — and so we were having a muted celebration, because anyone with children will know that if they don’t get a good night’s sleep, the next day is completely shot in terms of enjoying it. So it was the most muted, though jubilant celebration I think I’ve ever had.

Did you get to go out later in the day and party it up a little?
MO:
You know what, that morning, I took the family to IHOP and we all had breakfast together.

Fantastic. And did you hear from GLEE’s fearless leaders at all?
MO:
Oh, sure, yeah. That morning, actually, the first person to text me congratulations was Will Arnett, because he’s a longtime pal of mine, so that was kind of fun. We’ve been friends for many years and it’s great to be in the same category as him. And then later in the day I heard from [GLEE writer/executive producers] Ryan [Murphy] and Brad [Falchuk] and exchanged emails with [cast members] Chris [Colfer] and Cory [Monteith] and Romy Rosemont who plays my girlfriend, although I don’t know what’s going to happen with that relationship now that I’ve kicked Finn out of our house.

Ha. Yeah, that was a powerful scene.
MO:
You know, people’s reactions to my scenes are [a result of] how solid Chris and Cory are. They’re so available emotionally that it’s very easy to act opposite them.

You know, it’s funny, I spoke to Chris and he said the same thing about you, that he’s pretty sure he wouldn’t have been nominated if it wasn’t for you and the chemistry you two have.
MO:
Well, you know, part of Chris’ success and this rocket to fame that all of these kids have had, I’ve witnessed it up close and I must say that they are all incredibly nice and down-to-earth. Chris and Cory are just really good guys and they’re working really, really hard and I think that it’s quite staggering to actually look at the volume of work that they have to do, whether it’s the learning of the music, the choreography or their lines. I think that one of the reasons the show has been singled out is that, when I’m at home and watching an episode, I just can’t believe that they do it in eight days. And I think that anybody that works in Hollywood, whether GLEE is the kind of show that they would write or produce themselves, can recognize just how hard it is to pull it off.

No doubt. But on top of that, the work that you’re doing, I mean, that’s some pretty serious stuff that you, Chris and Cory are tackling.
MO:
It’s been great to be able to have a moment to reflect on participating in the success of the show, because when we’re at work and doing those scenes, they’re very emotional scenes, so you’re not skipping and jumping on set, laughing and having a good time. You really have to be very focused on what it is that you’re doing, so that you don’t do it badly. But it’s a tribute to the writing that the scenes are easy to play once you get out of your own way. You just kind of have to look to the person opposite you and listen and react.

Again, Chris has said the very same thing about you, that he’s kind of following your lead.
MO:
That’s very nice of him to say but that guy doesn’t have to follow anybody’s lead. He comes in completely prepared and leads by his own example. I do think that, in terms of Chris’ storyline, they’ve given him some very rich material to play, and when you’re able to portray that kind of real and painful struggle that everyone can relate to — wondering whether or not your parent is going to love you, whether or not the people in your school are going to love you because of who you are — as an actor, you just want to be able to mirror that [level of emotion].

And you’ve clearly been successful in that endeavor. So successful that I’m thinking there’s a good chance you’ll be promoted to series regular this season.
MO:
Could be. Could be…

What do you guys think?

Would you like to see a whole lot more of Burt Hummel in GLEE season 2?

Maybe a legal joining of the Hummel-Hudson families?

The NCIS cast and crew started production on season 8 today…woohoo!

We still have a couple months before the new episodes will reach our TV screens, but everyone’s back to work, so that’s a nice reminder that Gibbs and company will return soon.

To help make the hiatus a bit less painful, the lovely Pauley Perrette (Abby) posted a video on YouTube — taken at the table read for the premiere — featuring her costars Mark Harmon (Gibbs), David McCallum (Ducky) and Sean Murray (McGee), thanking the fans for their support.

Take a look…

Totally adorable, right?

What are you hoping to see happen during NCIS season 8?

DROP DEAD DIVA Recap: Senti-mental

Comments Off on DROP DEAD DIVA Recap: Senti-mental

Hey Drop Dead Diva pals! Sorry I missed the last episode. A lot went on, and I want to touch on a few quick points. It seemed like things were finally in sync for Tony and Jane, until his new job offer placed him in DC. They broke up amicably enough, I suppose, and I think I may have been more upset than either of them. Jane capped off the episode with a nightcap with Grayson, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Meanwhile, Parker and Kim physically admitted their feelings for one another, but not before Fred got caught gossiping about them with Parker’s assistant. And Grayson, who had been seriously contemplating selling the house he and Deb had bought for their life together, decides not to. And the case in that episode was great, too…with Jane defending Edward, Teri’s nephew, against deportation. Feel free to comment below about that episode as well as this week’s! Let’s get right to that one!

LIFE UNEXPECTED: MELROSE PLACE’s Shaun Sipos to Stir Drama as Sexy Teach

July 12, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Life Unexpected, TV News

Shaun Sipos was always butting heads with Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) on MELROSE PLACE last season, but this coming fall, he may have two new father figures to fight.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE has received confirmation that The CW’s LIFE UNEXPECTED has cast Sipos as a young teacher at Lux’s high school — as Fancast first reported — and several sources now tell us that Sipos’ character may have inappropriate encounters with both Lux and her best friend, Tasha.

Wonder what Baze (Kris Polaha) and Ryan (Kerr Smith) will have to say about that…

Something the two can possibly bond over?!

Would not be opposed to seeing ’em team up to fight the sexy teach.

But now I’m just daydreaming…

What do you think?

Do you want to see Lux getting flirty with Sipos?

HUGE: Gina Torres on Dr. Rand and Her Issues

Comments Off on HUGE: Gina Torres on Dr. Rand and Her Issues

Between ANGEL, FIREFLY, ALIAS and, as of last season, guest spots on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and GOSSIP GIRL, TV fans have known GINA TORRES for quite some time. But in ABC Family’s new drama, HUGE — which takes place at a fitness camp for overweight teens — TORRES is tackling a role that we haven’t really seen her in before.

Playing the counselor in charge, Dr. Dorothy Rand, her character is dealing with some personal and emotional issues as troubling as any of the kids under her care.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE got a chance to chat with Torres on the subject…

What is up with Dr. Rand?!
Gina Torres:
Oh, gosh, Dr. Rand, she’s a complicated little nut. I love her, because she’s so strong, yet fragile. You know, clearly, she’s in charge of these kids and wants the best for them. She believes in what she’s doing, she believes in the message that she’s bringing forward. But like so many, she’s good with other people’s lives when her own life is a mess. And she recognizes that she’s not where she wants to be and that’s her fragile [side]. She wants to exact change in her own life, but she’s a little bit stuck.

She’s given her formerly-estranged father a job at the camp, but she can’t bring herself to tell her mother. She seems so troubled. Do you think she has anyone to talk to?
GT
: I think she finds all interpersonal relationships a little challenging. When you have so many walls up, it’s hard to really get close to somebody, to reveal all of yourself, because ultimately, you’re scared because you don’t feel safe.

How do you think she’s able to guide the campers when she, herself, is on some shaky ground?
GT:
Because she knows she is! Because she recognizes so much of herself in them, because she was them once upon a time. She’s all grown up, but there’s still that very insecure, 17-year-old girl — heavy girl — that has a say!

“Has a say”… love that. Now, will we see her struggle through her own issues this season? Will there be a journey?
GT:
Yes, I’ve been very pleased with what you get to see of Dr. Rand and her interior life, her struggles and what’s going on with her. It’s a very interesting journey.

Last thing, I have to ask, might we see you back on GOSSIP GIRL and/or VAMPIRE DIARIES again?
GT:
We’re [nearing the end] of shooting [the first 10 episodes of] HUGE, so after that, who knows, who knows. It’s a terrible thing what happened to me on VAMPIRE DIARIES! But everyone who’s a fan of the show assures me that if I can come back on any show, that’s the one that will allow me to bounce back from a missing heart! And I think Vanessa needs her mom [on GOSSIP GIRL]. I think Vanessa absolutely needs her mom to come back and set some things straight.

You can do it all.
GT:
Why not! Why not.

You’ve got a good thing going in this TV business.
GT:
It’s not bad, not bad at all. Yeah, I’m feeling very fortunate.

RIZZOLI AND ISLES: Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander on Friendships and Strong Female Characters

July 12, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Rizzoli & Isles

Anyone remember that old ABC show WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB?

Based off the similarly-titled James Patterson book series, four friends — an inspector, a medical examiner, a district attorney, and a journalist — worked together to solve crimes. Angie Harmon led the cast of WMC, but it launched the year of the Writers Guild strike and quietly died.

Now, however, Harmon is back with a new crime-solving show, RIZZOLI & ISLES — based on the Tess Gerritsen book series  — about a cop and a medical examiner. Yes, there’s a bit of a deja vu thing happening here and we’re not the only ones who’ve recognized the similarities.

“This is a perfected version of [WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB],” Harmon (Rizzoli) says. “It really is. Am I not supposed to say that? I feel like WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB was a dress rehearsal for this.”

And while there are certainly a good deal of parallels between WMC and R&I, Harmon actually thinks R&I is more like the popular show CAGNEY & LACEY.

But the show — which is a lot of fun and certainly fits in with TNT’s other female-led dramas — premieres this week, so you can watch it and make your own comparisons.

Check out the video below to see our Q&A with Harmon and co-star Sasha Alexander (Isles) and get their take on strong female TV leads, what they dig about the way their on-screen friendship is playing out and why they’re dying for an 80s flashback…
