SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Alex Wong on his Show-Ending Injury and If He’ll Return Next Season
July 9, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
It was an emotional Thursday night at SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE as judge Nigel Lythgoe announced that Alex Wong’s lacerated achilles tendon will require surgery and, therefore, he must withdraw from the competition immediately.
Wong — who was a clear frontrunner to win the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer” — spoke with reporters after the show, explaining the complications of his upcoming surgery — which he’ll undergo Tuesday — as well as the freak nature of the injury, saying he honestly doesn’t know why it happened: he’s never had achilles problems and his muscles were warm and his body felt strong at the time of the tendon tear.
So, if Wong fully heals before next season, does he intend to return to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, since Lythgoe said that he would once again be welcomed to start during Vegas Week?
“I would love to,” Wong tells us in the video clip below. “You know, Vegas is really hard, but it’s worth it when you get on the show. So it’s a lot to give up, but I would love to be back. I feel like I haven’t finished my journey. I feel like I have so much more to learn.”
Sadly, the former Miami City ballet dancer — who gave up his Principle position in the company to pursue a spot on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE — has a long road ahead of him before he can jump back on that train.
Even if the surgery is completely successful — there is a 20% chance that it won’t be — there will be months of rehab and recovery to endure.
So, how concerned is Alex about that 20% chance of failure? And how much pain is he in?
Listen in as he explains…
What do you think?
If you were Alex Wong, would you return for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE season 8?
Feel free to express your thoughts on the subject — and to wish Alex well — in the comments section below…

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Nigel Lythgoe Says Alex Wong will be Welcomed Back to Vegas for Season 8 if his Injury Doesn’t End his Career
July 9, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD, TV News
How serious is the injury that SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finalist, Alex Wong, has sustained? Could the season 7 standout — who’s been forced to withdraw from the competition — forfeit his career over it?
The answer is yes. As executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe explains in the video below, which we shot backstage after the heartbreaking elimination show Thursday night, there is a 20% chance that Wong’s surgery will be unsuccessful.
However, if Wong does fully recover, will he be eligible to compete on SYTYCD next year?
Hells yeah.
Just as Billy Bell was welcomed back to Vegas Week this spring — after an illness forced him to withdraw from the previous season — Nigel says Wong will get the same courtesy.
Listen in…
P.S., With Alex now gone, Nigel was asked to name the new competition frontrunners and he said Kent and Lauren.
Couldn’t agree more, Mr. Lythgoe. Couldn’t agree more.
And how about you guys? Do you agree as well? Comment below…

GLEE’s Chris Colfer on his First Emmy Nod: ‘I just collapsed on my living room floor… I’m in complete shock right now’
July 8, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, Emmys, Glee
Chris Colfer is having quite the year. He’s strutted his stuff in 10-inch Lady Gaga heels, traveled to the White House to chill with President Obama, met Ms. Oprah Winfrey and earned a fan in Madonna.
But this morning (July 8), the 20-year-old GLEE star from Clovis, California — who was cool enough to meet me at the bar for some “underage drinking” a couple months back — got the television industry’s official seal of approval with a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Say wha–?! was Chris’ reaction to the news, being the humble kid that he is.
But was he truly surprised?
Chris took the time to chat with me during this crazy, special day and I asked him…
Congratulations!
Chris Colfer: Oh, thank you, I’m so excited.
Now, I’m sure you knew the nominations were this morning, so did you stay up all night?
CC: I knew they were this morning. I did get some sleep though. But with these awards shows, when you know you have a chance of being nominated [you do get anxious]. I think I was more worried about the show than I was about myself. I mean, my own nomination was a complete surprise, but I was a little nervous for the show.
Was it really a complete surprise? You didn’t expect your nod at all?
CC: I mean, I knew there was a possibility because I’m on TV — for one… it helps if you’re on TV — and I knew that I had been mentioned in everyone’s prediction polls and whatnot. So I knew there could be a chance, but I never really thought about it, because I didn’t want to jinx myself or be disappointed, so I really was surprised and I’m in complete shock right now.

SONS OF ANARCHY-
2010 Primetime Emmys: Our Pumped and Pissed Lists
July 8, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
The biggest news coming out of this morning’s Emmy nominations? Two of the small screen’s most deserving unsung heroes finally got some love from the Academy.
Hells yeah.
The first-time acting nods for FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS’ Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler are only like four seasons overdue, but we’ll take ’em. We’re just thrilled that their stellar work is being recognized at last… and because of that we won’t even mention how stupid it is that the series as a whole wasn’t nominated (or that supporting actor Zach Gilford should’ve gotten a nod too).
What else? Well, we’re pleased to see the genius of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE choreographers Mia Michaels (“Addiction”) and Stacey Tookey (“Fear”) given a shout out.
Also tickled by the nod for the now-defunct TONIGHT SHOW WITH CONAN O’BRIEN. His tweet today just says it all: “Congrats to my staff on 4 Emmy nominations. This bodes well for the future of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.”
It’s a nice ending to the TV nightmare he endured this past year, no?
But there’s much to be thankful for, including the expected nominations of newbies MODERN FAMILY AND GLEE, along with their very talented cast members Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Mike O’Malley (Burt Hummel).
However, we’re feeling upset about the exclusion of MODERN FAMILY’s Ed O’Neill.
Said Burrell regarding his nod and O’Neill’s snub, “I can’t begin to tell you just how honored I am to be nominated for an Emmy. In classic Phil Dunphy fashion, I was fast asleep when the nominations were announced and am deeply saddened to have missed Sofia’s pronunciation of Mariska Hargitay. All kidding aside, I’m so proud of the fact that Modern Family was recognized in so so many categories, from Chris Lloyd and Steve Levitan, to Jason Winer, our unbelievable crew and my fellow yahoos in the cast – the Television Academy so graciously shared the love with our entire Modern Family. I am starting the campaign today – Ed O’Neill 2011!!”
Speaking of, O’Neill’s former MARRIED WITH CHILDREN co-star, Katey Sagal, should’ve earned a nomination for her SONS OF ANARCHY role, but was also left out.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Screaming for Lauren, Kent and Jose… Crying for Alex
July 8, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
On a night that should’ve been a somber disappointment, given Alex Wong’s injury, we actually got several scream-your-face-off, lose-your-breath performances from the remaining seven contestants.
I’ve got few words for you on the subject.
Let’s just let the genius speak for itself…
I am loving Kent and Lauren right now. How smoldering hot and just plain perfect was my girl in her performance with Pasha? Pure murderation — as Mia put it — is right. And her partnership with Kent in this last piece was simply precious, I found myself actually melting over their teenage love, wondering if they might really be in a relationship together. And though I didn’t include the video of Kent’s hip hop with Comfort in this post, I thought he pretty much killed it with a Justin Timberlake-like cool.
Jose had me gasping for breaths during his performance with Lauren. That kid can act and this week he freakin’ danced too, damn it!
And Ashley, well, she’s just awesome. As usual.
Agreed?

What Happened to Alex Wong? SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Season 7 Frontrunner Can’t Compete
July 7, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD, TV News
If you’re a SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE fan on the East Coast, you may have already heard the upsetting news: Season 7 stand out Alex Wong is injured.
The former Miami City Ballet dancer, who gave up his position in the company to pursue his SYTYCD dream, hurt his Achilles tendon during rehearsal yesterday and is unable to compete in tonight’s (July 7) competition show, which is currently airing live.
Because of this, he will automatically be in the bottom three on Thursday.
If he isn’t cleared by the doctor to dance next week, he will be eliminated.
Wong, who is arguably season 7’s frontrunner, having wowed the judges with last Wednesday’s hip hop performance as well as the first week’s Sonya Tayeh contemporary piece, will break a lot of hearts if he does indeed have to withdraw.
We are praying for your speedy recovery, Alex. Get well!

Gleeks, we’re pretty sure this is as good a reason as any to randomly burst into song: You may be able to start your countdown to GLEE’s return, because season 2 has a premiere date.
Probably.
Though GIVE ME MY REMOTE is waiting for official confirmation from FOX, the “gleeks” twitter account reports that the second season will kick off Tuesday, September 7th.
Pumped? What do you hope to see happen in this upcoming second year?
UPDATE: FOX would not confirm the 9/7 date for GLEE’s return. A network rep tells GMMR that the show’s season 2 premiere date has not yet been announced… so you may want to wait on that countdown clock just a bit longer.
