SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Nigel Lythgoe on Alex Wong and hip hop, plus who could give Wong competition for the win
July 2, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
When SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe hit backstage after Thursday (July 1) night’s elimination show, the first thing I asked him about was Alex Wong and hip hop. Where did the ballet dancer pull that swagger from?
In the clip below, Lythgoe talks about that and answers a few other questions: Does Wong have this competition in the bag? Why are the judges loving on Jose right now, but giving Kent a hard time? And if Lythgoe could’ve gotten inside the body of week 3 eliminee Melinda, what would he have done diff– er, um, let me rephrase that… Oh, I said it out loud already?
Watch as Lythgoe reacts…

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Week 3′s eliminee talks backstage with GMMR
July 2, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
She’s been in the bottom 3 every week since SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE season 7 began, but Melinda Sullivan is so damn cool that she never did let that phase her.
Though most devoted followers of the show could’ve predicted her elimination this Thursday (July 1), Sullivan told reporters backstage that she suspected she might be in the bottom 3 again, but she wasn’t really sure, as everything on the show is a surprise.
And even after she was eliminated, the girl was calm and collected, smiling about all the possibilities the future holds for her — she says wants to be on HEROES… I didn’t have the heart to tell her that wasn’t happening — and talking excitedly about being a proud representative of the tap dance world.
Take a look…
But before Melinda shares those gifts with the world, she’s going to have to share them with me, as I’m meeting up with her this weekend for a little tap lesson. Check back Monday for that and, in the meantime, peep my lessons with prior eliminees Cristina Santana and Alexie Agdeppa (links below). I think you’ll like…

Who Went Home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?
July 1, 2010 by Kath Skerry
Filed under So You Think You Can Dance, SYTYCD
UPDATE: Click here to find out who went home on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (August 5th)
PREVIOUS POST
I’ll be live blogging tonight’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE starting at 9pm EST. Join us then and leave your thoughts in the comments throughout the show.
After last night’s stellar performances, it’s going to be hard to have to send someone home tonight. Oh wait, no it’s not – as long as that person in Melinda. Sorry, but I can’t imagine any scenario in which she stays. Let’s see…
- She’s been in the bottom three every week
- The judges voted her keep her over Cristina but all three said they regretted their decision
- Another subpar performance last night
- Weak-ass solo
- She’s annoying
As long as she’s in the bottom three tonight I’d put money on her going home (and I’m stingy, and I don’t give away my money easily).
Bottom Three Predictions
What’s going to be a bigger surprise is the other two dancers joining Melinda in the bottom two. For me, I’d most definitely want to see Jose dance for his life tonight. Other than Melinda, he’s the weakest dancer there. I know the judges like to fawn all over his smile and ignore his lack of talent, but nobody else really deserves to be there. Assuming the third person is another girl, I’m going to go ahead and say it might be Lauren. She doesn’t deserve to be there, but there’s a chance.
Another Opening, Another Show
Hard to judge the opening number when the audio sucked all the life out of it. “Carmina Burana” is one of the most powerful pieces of music in existence, but it’s impact was lost by the muted audios. It completely took me out of the routine. It looked ok, not one of my favorites, but I’m sure it would have been better had the whole thing come together in the right way.
Some Changes Coming Next Week
Nigel announced that there will be a few shake-ups next week. Each of the remaining contestants will dance two routine. Each dancers will dance with an All Star they’ve never danced with AND they will be dancing with their S7 peers. So it’s a mix of the old and new on SYTYCD next week. A little bit of something for everyone.

90210: You Ask, I Answer on a new character, Adrianna and Navid, Annie and Liam
July 1, 2010 by Korbi Ghosh
Filed under #1 featured, 90210, TV News
On Tuesday, The CW announced the official return dates for all their fall shows, so we thought, why not do a little preview of what’s to come on the third season of 90210…
Your questions continue to come in and I’ve got a few answers…
Do you have any new information on this handsome, charismatic, Talented Mr. Ripley-type that’s joining 90210? -Kevin
Indeed. I’m hearing that this kid is the son of an old friend of Ivy’s family. He won’t go to West Bev, because he’s already graduated from high school, which just gives him more time to throw himself at Ivy… and her mother — yes, he’s got balls, this boy. Let’s just say Dixon won’t be his biggest fan. Also, EW.com is reporting that the part will be played by former PASSIONS actor, Blair Redford.
We all know that Adrianna won’t choose her singing career over Navid. If she goes on tour, she has to leave the show, which obviously isn’t happening, so I just think that was a dumb cliffhanger for 90210. -Jamie
I hear you, but actually, I’m told that Adrianna does decide to go on tour with Javier. She and Navid will stay together while she’s on the road… though I don’t know how long she’ll be away. What do you think: One episode? Two?
So, Annie and Liam are going to be a couple next season, right? Tell me I’m right. -JJ
They’re definitely heading in that direction, though it won’t happen immediately. Their feelings for each other are strong, but Annie’s struggling with the thought of betraying Naomi. Her loyalty to this girl — who has done awful things to her, so the whole concept is just beyond me — will keep her from Liam… at least for a while.

[Note: For all you non-SYTYCDancers, what makes this dance extra special is that Alex is a trained ballet dancer. He’s not a hip hop’per…or so we all thought.]
