SMALLVILLE Season 10 Kicks Off Tonight
September 24, 2010 by Sarah Luoma
SMALLVILLE is back tonight, you guys, and super fan — and GMMR contributor — Sarah L. has been kind enough to whet our Clark Kent appetites with a tease of what’s on tap. Please enjoy…
Are you ready for SMALLVILLE season 10?! I know I am. While we all have been patiently awaiting its return, we got tons of news this summer — especially regarding guest appearances galore and the premise for this final year — which makes me even more excited!
Says The CW, “Season ten promises the classic reuniting of the timeless romance between Clark and Lois, and brings Clark face-to-face with his destiny as he overcomes his final trials and forges the iconic identity that will be known for all time.”
Superman!!
Before we break into the rest of what’s to come, I can’t help but rewind back to the sad news we all received at the end of season 9: Chloe (Allison Mack) leaving Smallville as a regular resident!! Talk about unexpected, not to mention seriously disappointing. Recently debuting in the comic books for the first time is a bit of a consolation, but I’m still sad that Mack will only be a guest star, popping in now and then this year.
Who is going to be Clark’s soundboard and sidekick? I guess her departure will help move Clark along as he embraces his destiny and birthright, but it won’t be the same. Her presence on the show was huge, so hopefully all of the buzz surrounding the return of Jonathan Kent and several other superheroes will fill the void and make this last year of SMALLVILLE a major event for fans who have been loyal followers throughout.
With clips showcasing SMALLVILLE’s season 10 premiere rolling out all over the web, we know so far that Darkside and the evil New Gods of Apokolips are the rumored villains for this year. The first episode, titled “Lazarus,” apparently sets Lois (Erica Durance) up to help Clark, since he’s stabbed himself with blue kryptonite. Unfortunately, I’m told Lois will take off so that Clark won’t have to discuss the secret he has been keeping from her and the rest of the world. Buzz is also indicating that Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) will have a message for his son back on the Kent farm. Chloe will also show up in the series premiere as she looks for Oliver. And who can forget about the evil Tess, who will apparently wake in a Luthor Corp Lab in bad shape after the end of season 9. Also, believe it or not, Lex Luthor is coming back after reportedly being cloned! Just not in the form of Michael Rosenbaum. We’ll return to the long running storyline surrounding LL, but unfortunately, the show couldn’t score Rosenbaum, so Lex will look a little different.
What else can we look forward to as SMALLVILLE airs its last episodes? Well, series execs have lined up Super Girl (Laura Vandervoort) to return, and it sounds like she’ll play a very important part in Clark’s destiny. Here’s what the actress recently shared regarding her return to the show (jump ahead if you’re trying to avoid spoilers, because she does reveal quite a bit when it comes to Clark!):
“You guys will get a lot of answers about where’s she’s been and what she’s discovered about her family, and she’s going to teach Clark a few lessons, and one lesson in particular, everybody’s been wanting her to teach him. She’s here to support him and to help him to discover who he is and who he can be.”
We’ll also get to see actor James Marsters return as Brainiac, Michael Shanks in the role of Hawkman and John Glover as Lionel Luther once again! If only the show’s producers could lure in Michael Rosenbaum for a father-son reunion. By the way, does anyone know if Annette O’Toole is coming back? I haven’t seen anything on her yet. Kristen Kreuk as Lana would also be great, but the actress has yet to be confirmed as a guest.
So, yes, after a fantastic season 9, I think Tom Welling and the crew have set up one terrific season to come that will hopefully be even better than last year! Fingers crossed that Clark will don that iconic Superman attire and be able to fly.
What are you looking forward to? Let us know below. And don’t forget to tune into the SMALLVILLE premiere tonight, Friday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m.!
