GLEE: ‘Brittany/Britney’ – The Best Episode of GLEE Ever?
September 28, 2010 by Kath Skerry
You can disagree and say that Tuesday night’s Britney Spears-themed episode of GLEE wasn’t the best hour of the series thus far, but you’d be wrong. And you’d have to live with the knowledge that you are wrong for the rest of your life.
“Brittany/Britney” was 44 minutes of hilarious dialogue, fun songs, fierce dancing and laugh out loud brilliance!
If Heather Morris wasn’t given the spotlight tonight, she certainly would have stolen it. Morris sparkled (and I’m not just talking about that hot see-thru get up she wore during ‘Slave 4 U’) as she embodied the sexiness and energy of Ms. Spears. I think she had us all wondering why tonight was the first time she was given the chance to show us the true extent of her talent. She was fantastic!
I was worried that an episode that focused so much on Brittany would be overkill and would take away from that special something she brings to each hour with her hilarious interjections. But my worries were for naught. She had more lines than ever and each one was more zingy than the last!
In fact, I think this episode was by far the most quotable episode of GLEE to date. I wanted to jot down my favorites to share with you, but it seemed I was pausing a few times in every scene to capture the notable quotables.
Before I share Tuesday night’s best lines, there are probably a few more things we should cover. So while I’m busy getting that blue stuff off my teeth, here are some other thoughts to ponder…
- Bravo to Ryan Murphy and team for limiting the screentime of the actual Britney Spears. She is a horrific actress and was off-putting in every scene she was in. Can we stop giving her cameos on my favorite comedies?
- John Stamos was a welcome addition as Dr. Carl. I might be one of the few not pulling for Will and Emma to be together right now. I don’t think he’s earned the right to be with someone like her. If Emma wants to have a little fun in the dentist chair, then I’m all for it. Oh and while we are speaking of Will, um, things didn’t work out with Emma because Will declared his adoration for her and then proceeded to cheat on her with Shelby Corcoran. It had nothing to do with Will not being exciting enough or too boring for Emma. I don’t know what kind of revisionist sympathy card he was trying to play but I didn’t like it.
- Lea Michele was smokin’ hot during her “Baby One More Time” number, but I don’t think she nailed the song. Her Broadway trained voice needed a bit more edge to really pull off Britney. Oh and I’m okay with not seeing Lea Michele cry while singing…ever again.
- Anyone else disappointed that Chris Colfer didn’t get a Britney solo? My boy did get all feisty with Mr. Schue though. Damn, Kurt!
- So glad Will proactively mentioned just how inappropriate it was that he sang and danced with the kids to “Toxic”. He’s becoming borderline unlikable…at least to me.
- The Jacob Ben Israel stuff went a little too far for my taste. His sweaty, naked ass was one thing, but his horniness during the pep rally was just creepy and gross.
- I had to watch all the dance numbers more than once because I couldn’t keep my eyes off featured background dancer, Mark Kanemura. Mark is my favorite SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCEr of all time. I know many SYTYCD alums have crossed over to GLEE, but this was the first time for Mark and it was crazy fun to watch him work it out.
- Did anyone else notice the brochures in Emma’s office? (1) Wow! There a Hair Down There. (2) I still breastfeed…but how old is to old? (3) Proper wiping: Easy as 1-2-3
- GLEE Trivia – If you’re not familiar with how Heather Morris came to be on GLEE, here’s a little background. Choreographer Zach Woodlee brought Morris in to teach Chris Colfer the choreography for Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” while shooting the ‘Preggers’ episode last season. Having danced alongside Beyonce, Morris knew the piece well. After being showcased as a Cheerio, creator Ryan Murphy brought her back and her brilliant one-liners landed her a spot as a series regular this season. Can you imagine GLEE without Brittany? Me neither.
Tonight’s GLEE isn’t going to be deleted from the DVR anytime soon. I’m going to need to watch it a few more times to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
Almost every scene was quotable tonight. Here are my favorite lines from tonight’s GLEE. If I missed your favorite quote, share it in the comments below.
- Mr. Schue: Who can tell me who Christopher Cross is?
Brittany: He discovered America.
- Finn: How can you get caught between the moon and New York City? They’re like a 100 miles apart.
- Brittany: I don’t want to do Britney.
Kurt: Why no Britney, Brittany?
Brittany: Because my name is also Britney Spears.
Amber: What the hell is she talking about?
Brittany: My middle name is Susan. My last name is Pierce. That makes me Brittany S. Pierce — Brittany Spierce. I’ve lived my entire life in Britney Spears’ shadow and I will never be as talented or as famous. I hope you’ll all respect that I want glee club to remain a place where I, Brittany S. Pierce, can escape the torment of Britney Spears.
- Santana: Can I just say that you are the hottest dentist I’ve ever seen?
Dr. Carl: Yeah, I get that all the time.
Santana: No, seriously, you can totally drill me whenever…
- Brittany: I don’t brush my teeth. I rinse my mouth out with soda after I eat. I was pretty sure Dr. Pepper was a dentist.
- Brittany: This room looks like the one on the spaceship where I got probed.
- Brittany: Please don’t pull out all my teeth. When I smile I’ll just look like an adult baby but with boobs.
- Finn: How do you feel about me not being on the football team anymore?
Rachel: I’m actually kind of happy about it. Then I don’t have to fantasize about what song I’d sing at your bedside if you were in a coma.
- Santana: Hey dwarf, anyone ever told you you dress like one of the bait girls on ‘To Catch a Predator’
Brittany: Also, I’m more talented than you.
- Brittany: I’m more talented than all of you, I see that clearly now. It’s Britney…bitch.
- Rachel: I look forward to the day when the paparazzi provoke me and I attack them.
- Finn: Do you see what I’m talking about? They’re personifying you!
Rachel: Objectifying.
- Santana: Well Rachel, congratulations. Normally you dress like the fantasy of a perverted Japanese businessman with a very dark, specific fetish, but I actually dig this look. Yaaaaay!
- Sue: Don’t let your own recklessness blind you to the fact that Britney Spears is a genius pop culture provocateur, and a gateway drug to every out of control impulse ever created.
- Quinn: I’m pretty sure Artie’s legs don’t work.
Brittany: Did you get a leg transplant?
- Emma: Hey, you’re all dressed up. You look like a cast member from K.I.D.S. Incorporated.
- Lauren: Mr. Schue, let me be your Britney!
- Sue: I’m going to take your house, your car, your extensive collection of vests. I mean seriously, you wear more vests than the cast of “Blossom”.
- Rachel: I shouldn’t try to control you. I’ve just never been this happy before, and I realized that I was trying to hold on to how you were making me feel so much that I was strangling you in my hands like a little bird.I get now that in order for this relationship to work I need to open up my hands and let you fly free.
Brittany: Finn can fly?
- Brittany: Wait, I thought I was the only one getting the solos from now on. Next week, I’m going to be performing a musical number by Ke$ha.
So many great Britney tunes. Brittany moments. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on this episode of GLEE. Favorite lines…favorite musical numbers. Let’s talk…bitch.

Loved the Blossum/vest line and I too was disappointed that Kurt didn’t get a Britney solo (and that there has been so little Kurt…and Puck too for that matter…so far this season!).
Also loved the Dr. Pepper line!
Though, I have to say it again this week, do we need to end every epsode with a Rachel solo!? Lea Michelle sang both closing numbers wonderfully but I’m alittle tired of the Rachel show! (Just saying/not hating, though I do feel she was a beeyotch to Finn tonight!)
And lastly, I am very psyched about Artie the football star!!!
I have to disagree with it being the best episode of Glee ever. While it did have some hilarious dialogue (as in everything you posted) I feel that the negative points that you highlighted were right on the money. However, those negative points for me speak to the episode as a whole and the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.
If Glee is going to blow some serious budget on re-makes of music videos, I’m okay with that but if that money is being used to pay writers to think up a story thats where it should stay. There could have actually been a plot rather than “They’ll get high and dream it!” That to me, seemed to be a lame, disjointed excuse for a story. Not that glee has ever really had solid plots, but they weren’t the swiss cheese plots that they are now. Artie’s on the football team, WHY? Kurt blew up at Will & we DON’T see the scene in Figgins office? For all the Britney pimping he does, Kurt doesn’t get a Britney solo? Quinn actually spoke more than one sentence? When did that happen?
If I’m judging it in terms of production value and great one liners, fine A+. But overall? This baby pulled a solid D in my book. Nothing came together to run like the well oiled machine that Glee was last season. Please, Glee, do not hit me one more time. It’s starting to hurt.
Oh and you’re spot on about why Will lost Emma too, Kath!
Shep – While I agree with most of your points, I have to say that in my opinion, GLEE has never been great when it comes to plot points and story development. Almost every episode relies on a lame contrivance of plot and character exposition to transition to a musical interlude.
This was a major flaw throughout last season. So much so that I kind of just accepted that the show will never be a pillar of storytelling. I think the eps with strong stories and continuity throughout the ENTIRE episode were the outlier last season.
Of course I was being hyperbolic when I admonished those who didn’t like tonight’s episode. As always, to each their own. I think I’m just one of those GLEE fans who can thoroughly enjoy the ‘parts’. In fact that’s the only way for me to truly enjoy GLEE. If I was forced to judge every episode based on all contributing factors, I’m not sure I could every enjoy the show again. It’s one of the perks of not being a TV critic – I can focus on the parts and leave the summation of everything else up to others 🙂
As always, thanks for contributing to the dialogue. I’m sure you’re not the only one who felt this way about tonight’s episode…not by a long shot.
I agree with Shep. The episode didn’t come together for me. It had no heart, it was all drugs and Britney Spears.
So… ummm… Brittany has to do Ke$ha now.
Sorry, got to jump on the hated it bandwagon. There were definitely some great one-liners but the rest of the episode had no plot and was just a string of Brittany music video remakes. I had such high hopes for the new season after last week, but looks like they are back to their old tricks–so disappointing.
@Morgan – Let’s hope not.
I came late to the Gleek movement, finding my way through DVD marathons and FOX.com replays. Once I got hooked, I was surprised to read the same critiques applied to GLEE as to shows like LOST or MAD MEN. At the risk of underestimating the creative team’s mission, I think of GLEE as a fun-filled romp.
The two shows that provide me with the purest entertainment in prime time are GLEE & CHUCK. I enjoy them like milkshakes, rather than fine dining experiences. In my opinion, GLEE is a show that becomes hard to watch if we search for its imperfections. It is fast food TV, and tonight’s Britney episode was non-stop comfort food. Not so long ago, Britney Spears was the most popular entertainer on Earth, and I was delighted to be reminded how she reached that level.
I am enjoying everyone’s feedback, and hope that we keep the discussion going!
Seeing Heather Morris really let loose and dance was worth it for me. Now I need to go re-watch and find Mark!!! Thanks for pointing that out. LOVE HIM!
I so enjoy seeing SYTYCD people in routines now – strangely I feel like a proud aunt when I see them. BTW – in case you missed it – Kherrington was a backup dancer for Katy Perry on SNL this weekend.
Kath,
I can absolutely agree with your perspective as well. Like I said, looking at the parts, you’re right on the money with the fact that the episode was an A+.
I like to think that last season, I accepted Glee for the fact that plots weren’t strong suits. They’ve always been lacking in that department and I think I can let that go to an extent. Sometimes I have to stop and tell myself, okay, it’s glee it’s not going to make that much sense. But now I find myself re-phrasing that to “okay it’s Glee, it’s not going to make sense.”
The season premiere left me a little peeved with the fact that so much character development that had actually been done WELL was just tossed by the wayside. It bothered me that the writers had actually spent time making Quinn appear to have changed and be a better person if they were going to turn her back into the Cheerio version of herself anyway.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE glee fan and I’m not asking for it to win a Pulitizer here. I’m just asking for a little bit more sense then it’s making now. I want to get back to the point where I can just look at it and enjoy it for what it is. But if I can’t figure out what it is, I have doubts.
And Erik, as you said, if we search for the imperfections in Glee, it does make it hard to watch. I think my problem is that I’m not searching for them. They’re just there.
I really want to look at Glee for what it is and be able to love it as much as I did last season. I have hope for next weeks episode because I love the cast, and I will always love the music. maybe next week I will try to look at just the parts and see if that helps the lost in translation feeling that I’m getting here.
🙂
Brittany’s dancing was fabulous and the Britney songs were all stunning to watch. However, I like the fact that the show kept its narratives to the story about the main characters, Will/Rachel/Finn/Artie. I kept the needed balance. Otherwise it would have been just a string of music videos. I didn’t expect it to end with a non-Britney song, but I loved the song Rachel at the end. Finn and Rachel are really a cute couple. I love Cory Monteith.
Personally, I loved this episode. I grew up with this music (yeah, yeah), watched those music videos countless times, and I couldn’t feel anything but pure glee while watching them perform these songs. It was amazing.
Like many have pointed out, the story was flimsy at best. But as we’ve seen, GLEE is not best known for its amazing writing. Rarely does an episode achieve both amazing performances and solid storytelling. The Madonna episode last year was mainly amazing performances, so I expected the same for this one.
My only real complaints? Wish it had been ALL Britney Spears. Lea could have easily sung “Sometimes” at the end of the episode and saved the Paramore song for another day (and hopefully she wouldn’t have been crying through it).
Also, as much as I adore Lea’s vocal talents, they so picked the wrong Britney song for her to sing. Her voice sounded out of place with that song. She sounded wayyyyy too sweet, which is really too bad.
PS- WHY IS THERE NO BRITNEY EP?! We got one for the Madonna episode! We got one for the finale! Five Britney songs should definitely qualify for an EP.
WHOOOOO????? WHO WAS THAT ONE DANCER WITH THE FANTASTIC ABS IN BABY ONE MORE TIME?!?!?!!
Yes the storyline wasn’t the greatest but the dance routines and singing more than made up for it. Loved Heather Morris finally singing too since Brittany is my favourite character.
While it may be a little weird for Mr. Schu to dance with the kids for Toxic, I do think it was a fabulous routine and probably the one I liked best.
Usually I love Lea Michelle, but I have to agree with Marisa that it was the wrong song for her to sing. She’d have been more suited to something like “Not a Girl…” cos her voice just didn’t sound quite right.
It was strange having a non Britney song thrown in especially since it was a tribute episode to Britney. I’m also getting a bit fed up with the ballad at the end sung by Rachel. It’s just making the episodes feel a bit samey and I could easily just turn off the last 5 mins and not feel I’d missed anything.
I will re-watch this but probably only the dance routines parts.
I have loved Heather Morris since she first appeared in Glee, and i was so worried that i would hype this episode up too much in my mind – but do you know what, I LOVED IT!!!
Heather’s dancing talent is astounding – she made the green mile in SYTYCD season 2, but missed out on a top 20 spot (fun fact) !!!
I agree with so many of the comments – Glee storylines are in the most part weak – and so I do very much view glee as “fluff” TV – It’s not serious, or worth over analyzing. Take it for what it is…. A bit of fun.
Having said all that, I cannot believe they are going ahead with teh Artie / Football team storyline – it makes me cringing so much because of course it’s ridiculous and it’s personally boarding on offensive.
It was so good to see Mark looking smoking hot in the back ground too. I too feel like a “proud Aunt” when I see the SYTYCD kids doing other stuff. (Season 4 was also the first season I ever watched, so I feel a huge connection to those guys!)
This is quite possibly my fave episode of Glee ever.
I forgot to add that my fave line of the episode was
Brittany: I petted a snake
Dr Carl: Rock On!
In terms of Heather Morris being awesome, this episode got an A, in terms of everything else, ehhh. I love HeMo and the one-liners, but when she gets a lot of lines, it kind of ruins the Brittany effect. The Will and Emma plot was just annoying after how he treated her in the back 9 (which I honestly try to forget even happened) and I love how happy Carl clearly makes her. Finn and Rachel’s storyline bordered on obsessive (“I want to be the only thing that makes you happy” was a little creepy) and I found Artie’s “Stronger” to be completely out of nowhere and in terms of plot, Quinn should have definitely done that song.
Also, the two creepers in the audience during “Toxic” was just too much and I think they completely ruined the number.
Mostly, this episode had a lot of great funny dialogue, too long of the music video remakes, and an awesome showcase on why Heather Morris is one of the best finds on T.V. right now. But best Glee episode ever? No.
I truly thought they were going to have Kurt do “Sometimes” with all the talk of him finding a love interest, it just seemed like that was where it was going.
Though I loved the episode. I really hope they cut down the themed episodes, I know Rocky Horror is next, but maybe after that they should take a break for a while.
Sorry the name was on there from a previous joke on another thread
I loved the episode, but I think it’s because, like Kath, I’ve chosen to ignore the plot holes and just go with it. In terms of entertainment value, it’s definitely one of my favorite episodes. Is anyone else terrified about next week’s episode? When I read the description of it, I thought the concept was insane and when I saw the preview last night, I was cringing.
i’m beginning to not like mr. schu anymore. he’s getting on my nerves a bit.
i agree that while lea did an okay job on baby hit me one more time, it wasn’t really up to par with heather and naya’s numbers. it kinda felt like an afterthought. i would have thought they would have put more power into it than what they did.
i thought finn was an utter asshole to rachel. at least she was honest about her worries that he would leave her for another cheerleader – aka “brittana” – but when said brittana made fun of her he agreed with them. that was a little harsh.
heather morris OWNED spears in this episode. she did a fantastic job in all 3 musical numbers she was in. how she can do those dances in those heels is beyond me. she and naya both rocked their songs. they need more singing time – i thought they were fabulous.
I didn’t enjoy this episode as much as I thought I would. I think partly because it was over-hyped, and the previous themed episodes (Madonna and Lady GaGa) were 1000x better.
In every GLEE ep, the thing I look forward to most is how creative the writers are with incorporating the musical performances to progresses the story. Most of the time on GLEE it’s a great balance. Think about Rachel and her birth mother singing “Poker Face”, singing the song meant something–sure not the lyrics, but were are all moved when they got to sing together even if it was just once. What can we connect to in this episode…not so much. It was a Britney imitation love fest. Fun to reminisce, but at the end of the performance…boring. Of course, this sounds like I’m over analyzing the show–but I’m trying to point out why this particular episode was a bit of a let-down. It was fun to watch, but the music chosen for the show could have been placed any where in the series without effecting the story–the music and story didn’t connect.
I say this–but can not deny that Heather Morris was AMAZING, the one-liners were stellar this week–from the whole cast, I was also upset that Kirt didn’t get a solo (seriously?). Uncle Jesse??! Hells ya, and Mark from SYTYCD….? Hello! I’m totally on board with you there!
I always enjoy the song choices on GLEE, don’t get me wrong–I love me some Britney Spears–but I didn’t like the “drugged up” state everyone had to be in during the musical numbers. The “Toxic” performance was probably my favourite of the episode…until the ludicrous actions of the students in the gym. It was completely unnecessary and ridiculous that it took away everything I loved about the number and lumped it in with other “Oh-I-expected-them-to-do-something-different” comments I had after all the other performances.
Basically the show copied our favourite Britney music videos. Where’s the creativity in that? (*Again, Heather Morris was fantabulous and her incredible dancing has nothing to do with anything negative I took from the show). I just wished they hadn’t put so much effort into copying Brit’s music videos, and focused more on how her music could progress the story, like they did with the other themed episodes.
BTW, Lea Michele’s “crying” at the end of the show where she squeezes her eyes together and the single tear falls–I’m over it. We get it! She’s got a great voice! (The last song had nothing to do with the Britney theme they crammed down our throats, and it was by far the best of the episode).
Oh…and I meant Kurt, not Kirt!! typo 🙁
You made some really excellent points and I especially agree with everything in regards to Will.
You didn’t mention the Finn and Rachel subplot, which I actually really liked. I thought it was realistic for Rachel to be so insecure, and she did make up for it in the end. Their little hallway scene during The Only Exception was so lovely. Call me sentimental, but I liked it.
I want to keep John Stamos forever. In honor of that, I request that he sing “Forever” to Emma. Never leave us, Stamos. Never.
I was surprised to see the dissent over the episode because it was one of my favorites in a long time (well, Journey withstanding).
I loved the introduction of Carl into the Will/Emma story. Truth be told, I much prefer the story and chemistry between Carl and Emma than Will and Emma, but I’m hoping, at the very least, that Carl can spice that up a bit.
I loved the Finn and Rachel stuff for, if no other reason, than it was incredibly real. Rachel is an insecure teenager who’s never gotten anything she wanted and suddenly, has nearly everything she’s wanted (the solos, the boyfriend and the acceptance of the Glee Club). I like that they’re not all sunshine and rainbows and singing about how wonderful love is. They fight and they bicker and then they make up because they love each other and there is no other option for them. And in the process, they’re slowly knocking down the walls and insecurities of the other. I’m really enjoying watching this play out.
Heather Morris doesn’t get nearly enough credit, but I worry about over exposure for both Brittany and Santana. I like them in the role and capacity they’re currently in…comedic relief. I’m not sure I care to see them carry their own stories.
Overall though? Solid ep, IMO.
I’m going to go against most of you and declare my undying LOVE for Rachel, and her getting a solo at the end of every ep works GREAT for me. Finn isn’t good enough for her,not by a long shot, the boys is so dumb,he’s just a less funny male version of Brittany, how can people not see this?! The preview for next week looks ridic, having hyperventilated all week waiting for Brittany/Britney I’m not looking forward to next weeks “Let’s all believe in God by the end of the episode” crap! Puck better get more screen time next week.
I also hate Will. He’s a creepy evil smug pretend-do-gooder, and has been since episode one, I’m glad more people are copping on to this! Return of Terri was AWESOME, as was Emma not running back to Will, I looooove Karl, even if he is a terrible dentist! (Fancy drug-dealing to Santana is still drug-dealing!!!)
BEST LINES FROM THE SHOW THAT WERE NOT ON THE LIST:
Brittany: It looks like a Jewish cloud
Jacob: What do you want for her? I’ll give you anything. I’ll give you my house. I’ll Kill my parents and give you my house.
Sue: Its like an inkblot test that butt-sweat stain. Stare into it William, and you will see the light of all that is good go out of the world.
Sue: Its a Brittany Spears Sex Riot!!!
I LOVED this episode. It might because I grew up with Britney like the Glee kids did. But, also because Brittany had SO many good lines! Too many to name. This might be my favorite Glee episode yet.
I guess I was expecting way too much from this episode – I mean, they’ve only been advertising it all summer long – and I was majorly disappointed. Brittany’s dancing was epic, but the plot was weak and the characters – where are my favourite characters!?!? Kurt, Mercedes, Quinn, Tina, Will, Sue, and Emma – even the ones that had a line or two did not sound like themselves. And having to watch Jacob Ben Israel and his disgusting pervertedness instead of quality screen time for the other characters was just not cool.
I don’t want to reiterate everything that’s been said… and I can let go of the plot holes since Glee is to TV what cake is to food…. just yummy and fun. But Rachel seriously has some issues (“I want to be the only thing that makes you happy.” Creeepy.) And Jew kid seriously skeeved me out. Honestly, that whole number was ruined by making the kids act like that. Silly plots are one thing…. totally strange, perverted weirdness from a song? An older song that a huge portion of the kids I knew in high school didn’t even like? Just odd. Too unrealistic to even be entertaining in a show where it’s normal to bust into song and dance at random. It actually made me physically uncomfortable.
Will is getting on my nerves lately too. He’s gone from this amazing teacher that I loved (who really reminded me of my own choir teacher) to this insecure guy who’s trying WAY too hard at basically everything.
That said, I adore Brittany, I’m tired of listening to Rachel almost exclusively (maybe some resentment left over from the two girls in my school who were basically her spitting image as far as taking EVERY solo, only obviously not as talented as Lea), and I love the show no matter what. 🙂
it took awhile and this show had to sink in but one point about Brit/Brit and then one about the season to date.
First, what worked (and subtly I might add) was this was one of the more snarky Glee’s to date. And that’s one of the many things I LOVE about the show. In the end, this wasn’t an homage show (ala Madge), despite all the kids going on and on about BritneyBritneyBritney – I got the distinct impression Ryan doesn’t really like Ms. Spears, and tbh doesn’t see a whole lot of “there” there. The fact they had to be drugged out of their minds to channel Brit was not lost on me, and what made it all the more delicious was the real slim britney didn’t even to seem like she was in on the joke. Now to be fair, I’ve never really had much affection for la Brit, she’s always come off like a cuter better-dancing Elizabeth Berkeley from Showgirls (and that is NOT a good thing). And her music is of basically one note (um what’s that word? – “meh”). so the show actually landed in a big way the idea that substance is ultimately the better out. Did they hit that point out of the park? probably not, but it certainly gives me hope for the rest of the season.
And speaking of that… um, where is the rest of the cast? Mercedes, Kurt, Quinn, Puck have all been relegated to wallpaper. And after the end of last season where they really fleshed Puck out, and gave Quinn a heart it seems like the writers have forgotten that they could build on that and really give dimension to other characters besides the Rachels and Finns. And come on, to have Mercedes and Kurt without any attention either to character or their incredible voices and interpretation of song is a ridiculous waste. I get we’re only in ep 2, but they are going to have to pull something out soon. It looks like Kurt will get some major time next week so that’s a start, I just don’t want folks to forget Amber Riley’s incredible chops (particularly with Charice coming on board). And seriously, they need to bring a stronger vocalist into the mix than Chord, he was really bland. so there’s the 20 cents worth.
Heather was amazing. I loved seeing Mark from SYTYCD (and Kherington on SNL).
Also: I can’t explain it, but I love Terri and I was so happy to see her again!
I can’t believe what a good match John Stamos is for Emma.
I thought it was a good idea to do the dreamlike visions of Britney songs. How else could they have done it and included so many songs with such great costumes? Plus, I thought everyone going to the dentist just to be given put under and get in touch with their inner Britney was hilarious.
There were so many funny one liners.
It was great to see Heather Morris dancing skills. She’s amazing. But I would have prefered a little Brittana scene at the end of “Me Against The Music”, rather than Brittany speaking to Britney (it was useless). But I found Brittana cute in this episode, for once Brittany was under the spotlight and Santana was defending her, it was nice.
I liked the Finchel developement, although Rachel was a bit annoying. What Finn said about the touchdown thingy was indeed very romantic and caring from him, she should have take it, and not asked Quinn to behave like a slut.
Another complain : wtf is going one with Quinn ? Zero screen time, she’s always staring at a wall, sadly, in the background … I want her back ! The same complaint applies to Puck.
And now, a rant about the songs they pick ! At the begining of the show, it was original, old songs, or very very famous one. Then, they started to do modern stuff, like Lady Gaga. It was ok, because it was ONE episode. But now, it’s only that ! This episode was, you know, cool, and all about Britney, but I don’t want the show to always be about one modern artist. It’s not interesting.
I just saw this episode and thought it was the best one ever. On a side note, I agree with one of the other posters about the sick abs on one of the background dancers. Maybe it is just my little fetish but muscles on a hot fit chick are the sexiest thing ever. I probably stopped and rewound those scenes ten times.
