RAISING HOPE: Star Lucas Neff Tells Us Why We Should Watch

RAISING HOPE debuts tonight after GLEE and Fox has gone all out to promote the show.

The series follows Jimmy, a young man unexpectedly raising his baby daughter, the result of a one-night stand (with a wanted serial killer who ends up on death row).

Whoops.

Luckily for Jimmy, he has the help of his mom and dad — who were young parents as well, popping him out at 15 — and his occasionally lucid grandmother — played by the glorious Cloris Leachman — but there are definitely struggles in raising Hope.

I mean, let’s face it, taking care of a baby is hard.

Fox, taking full advantage of this notion, decided to host a “Daddy Decathalon” at The Grove — a popular outdoor shopping center in L.A. — where contestants braved an obstacle-course of baby-related tasks. It was pretty funny to watch. And yes, we captured it on video for your enjoyment.

The cast of RAISING HOPE was on-hand to observe the event and we scored some one-on-one time with leading man Lucas Neff. To hear why he thinks people should be tuning into tonight’s premiere, take a look…

Hopefully I’m wrong. It’s worth checking out tonight. Let me know what you think after watching.]

CHUCK Season Premiere: Chuck Versus The Anniversary

September 21, 2010 by

Welcome back, Chuck Bartowski! It’s been too long, my friend. To say that I’m glad to have you back would be a bit of an understatement.

And to you, our esteemed GIVE ME MY REMOTE readers, many of you who first found us through our mutual love of all things CHUCK, we welcome you back as well. Glad to have you on board again as we join Operation Bartowski on more of their grand adventures.

This season, we’ll be traveling the world and narrowly escaping the bad guys as we accompany Chuck Bartowski on his search for his mother. At the end of last season, in his digitally encrypted afterlife, Stephen Bartowski informed his son that he and Ellie’s mother didn’t walk out on them as children, but rather she was a spy that was taken at the hands of some big bads. (Now whether or not Daddy had his story straight has yet to be seen, but for now it’s what we’ll go with.) Chuck’s dad dedicated his life to finding their mother, a tasks that in death, he left to Chuck.

While I am the first to admit that I sometimes nitpick a little too much on CHUCK (although I prefer to call it tough love), I’m not sure I’ll ever truly understand why this show hasn’t been a bigger hit for NBC. There are just so many facets for TV viewers to love. The blend of the comedy, the drama, the action and the romance – they always seem to get it just right (clearly I’ve removed all references to Daniel Shaw from my personal Intersect). I’m thinking tonight’s season premiere was just what CHUCK fans had been waiting for all summer.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Season Premiere: Big Days

September 21, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, HIMYM, How I Met Your Mother

So, the season 6 premiere of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has come and gone. Can we review what we’ve learned?

– Rachel Bilson’s character, Cindy, likes the ladies.

– Guys really dig sundresses.

– If you call “dibs” on a chick, you’re her rightful owner and she’s legally bound to you.

– Marshall’s dad — Dauber from COACH! — has some issues… he cares too much.

– Lily and Marshall may struggle to get pregnant.

– Robin is really broken up over her split with Don… though there’s clearly still chemistry between her and Barney. Did you see his face when she sat down next to him in the white dress? Hmm?

– And, finally, Ted will be the best man at a wedding where he’ll finally meet his future wife… though whose wedding it is, we don’t know.

Anyone else thinking that my second to last bullet point was our biggest hint?

Weigh in below.

And let us know what you thought of the episode in general. Pretty good premiere, no?

HOUSE Season Premiere: Now What?

September 21, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, House, House Recap, Posts by Erik

David Letterman was supposed to follow Johnny Carson as host of The Tonight Show. Despite a penchant for tweeking NBC executives, Letterman had built a loyal, young audience for his 12:30 Late Night program. As an experienced broadcaster with legitimate comedy chops, the Indiana native never imagined losing out on TV’s most prestigious franchise to Jay Leno. As the battle for Johnny’s chair intensified, Letterman made a final pitch to NBC, addressing their concerns that he did not understand the ramifications of moving to 11:30pm. Changes would have to be made for a larger audience, Letterman agreed. He understood that his persona would have to mature, lest the viewers reject him immediately. With over a decade of experience on their airwaves, Letterman could not fathom why the powers that be could not trust him to make that change in a professional manner.

HOUSE may be an 8pm scripted drama, but the schism between the pro-Huddy and anti-Huddy factions is reminiscent of the late night battles of the early 1990’s. The Season 7 Premiere pulled the trigger on Hugh Laurie & Lisa Edelstein’s onscreen romance, with no immediate end in sight. Director Greg Yaitanes and writer Doris Egan crafted a story to introduce House & Cuddy as a mature, communicative couple. There were demonstrations of passion, affection, and old-fashioned chivalry. Unfortunately, the premiere will do little to retain long-term viewers who have spoken out loudly against the Huddy storyline.

From my perspective, I believe that House’s producers and writers thought carefully about how to present House & Cuddy’s romance to a wider audience. Just as David Letterman and his team put together a plan for the demands of 11:30, I saw compromises being made to appease both pro and anti-Huddy fans. By retaining House’s acerbic wit and Cuddy’s type-A tendencies, mixing in a broken champagne bottle and an uncomfortably warm bath, they drew a line in the sand. This is the show WE want to make. These are characters that YOU love. Please TRUST us.

LONE STAR’s James Wolk & Eloise Mumford: Keeping Up the Con, Living Two Lives

Comments Off on LONE STAR’s James Wolk & Eloise Mumford: Keeping Up the Con, Living Two Lives

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been asked by many readers (and many friends) what the best new show of the Fall TV season is. Every time, I’ve given the same answer: LONE STAR.

This series from Fox follows the experiences of Bob Allen, a Texas based con-man who is delicately balancing his two very different lives. In Dallas, he’s Robert, a key player in an oil company run by the powerful family of his wife, Cat (Friday Night Lights‘ Adrianne Palicki). But back in Midland, TX, he’s the sweet and charming boyfriend of Lindsay, with whom he shares a home and none of his secrets.

Bob has made many mistakes in his life, but his biggest one might have been falling in love with two beautiful woman. To end the con and live life on the straight and narrow would mean giving up his relationship with one of the ladies he adores. Can he keep his artful lies on track or is he doomed to lose everything?

Not too long ago, I sat down with a couple of LONE STAR’s leads – James Wolk (Bob) and Eloise Mumford (Lindsay). Listen in as we talk about the show, its interesting take on a love triangle, and what Robert’s motivations are in continuing this dangerous game…

Stay tuned to GMMR for more of my chat with James and Eloise.

(I hadn’t planned on posting the video, but these two were just too pretty and I would have felt selfish if I didn’t share.)

Make sure you tune in to LONE STAR tonight at 9pm on Fox.

HOUSE Producer Katie Jacobs on House and Cuddy’s Naked Time, Plus the Season 7 Plan for 13 and Cameron Too

September 20, 2010 by

At the end of last season, HOUSE executive producers David Shore and Katie Jacobs made it quite clear that our favorite cranky doc and his boss, Lisa Cuddy, were finally going to give this romantic relationship thing a try.

And, as Jacobs tells GIVE ME MY REMOTE in the interview clip below, that’s exactly what they’re doing.

The seventh season premieres this evening with a lot of “naked time” between the two, which Jacobs is comfortable with, explaining that it feels like the right juncture in House’s life for this to happen. Last season, he battled with his addiction and sort of conquered it, she says.

So getting into it with Cuddy — for real this time — is only natural now, no?

Regarding all the aforementioned nakedness, Jacobs muses: “They need very little beyond each other’s company at this point in the relationship to make them happy. It’s been so long and coming.”

And hopefully, HOUSE’s viewers will feel the same, especially since tonight’s opener focuses heavily on their new union. “The first episode is sort of left of center,” she reveals. “It’s not one of our typical medical mysteries. We get right back to [the show’s regular format] in episode 2, but we decided that the audience might want to know, these are not just strangers. They’ve been, you know, thinking about this. How do they exactly come together? And so, the first episode does take place immediately following the season finale [when Cuddy confessed her love] and just the next couple days right after.”

Excited?

Watch the clip below for more from Jacobs on what HOUSE’s other players — 13, Foreman, Chase and Taub — will be up to this year, whether we’ll still be seeing Jennifer Morrison (Cameron) return now that she’s been cast on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and what happens when Cuddy decides HOUSE needs a new lady doctor on his team.

Will decisions be made differently because they’re now sleeping together?

See for yourself…

Thoughts?

HOUSE season 7 premieres tonight, Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on FOX.

90210 Nabs Joe Jonas

Comments Off on 90210 Nabs Joe Jonas

Joe Jonas — of JONAS fame (it’s apparently a TV show), as well as JONAS BROTHERS fame (I hear it’s a band) — is hitting network TV.

The CW confirms that, as EW.com first reported, Jonas will cameo as himself on a November episode of 90210.

Apparently, Adrianna’s budding music career will score her the cover of a magazine and he’ll be her date to the party, offering advice on being in the business.

But, wtf, where’s Navid while all this is going on?

Who knows… perhaps it’s just a publicity stunt that works out. I’m just going to assume that Navid’s busy that day, interning on a porn film his dad’s producing.

You?

CASTLE’s Nathan Fillion: Beckett Blew It

September 20, 2010 by

Many CASTLE fans were heartbroken at the end of season 2 when an oblivious Castle interrupted Beckett’s plans to confess her feelings for him, announcing that he was back together with his ex-wife.

Yeah, it still wounds us a little, too.

And when the duo reunites in tonight’s third season premiere, Castle won’t quite understand why Beckett is so annoyed with him.
