Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, October 14, 2010
October 14, 2010 by Kath Skerry
When did it become Thursday? I can’t tell if this week went by super fast or really slow. I’ll have to get back to you on Sunday. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it’s one of the best nights of the week for television.
I have to say, more than anything tonight, I’m beyond excited for the LIVE episodes of 30 ROCK. I say episodes because the show will be different on the East Coast and then later for the West. The uber-talented cast of 30 ROCK will be joined by Matt Damon, Jon Hamm and I’m sure some other surprise guests. Talk about must see TV!
Which shows are you going to watch live, DVR for later, or skip altogether?
Here are a few highlights from tonight’s tube lineup…
The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
“The Hot Troll Deviation”
Wolowitz is embarrassed when a secret of his is revealed; and Sheldon and Raj battle at work. [GMMR: Howard’s secret must be really bad. It takes a lot to embarrass that guy. Something tells me it might have something to do with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff who returns in this ep in which Howard may be trying to get Bernadette back.]
Community | 8pm on NBC
“Basic Rocket Science”
Dean Pelton asks the study group to clean and refurbish the Greendale flight simulator; after an accidental launch, Abed must navigate a safe return.
Bones | 8pm on Fox
“The Body in the Bounty”
When a skull and decomposing hands are found in a dumpster, the team searches for the rest of the victim’s remains; Brennan agrees to shoot an episode of a children’s show with professor Bunsen, “The Science Dude” Jude (David Alan Grier). [GMMR: In case you missed it… BONES: Do Booth and Brennan Love Each Other – We ask Hart Hanson.]
$#*! My Dad Says | 8:30pm on CBS
“Code Ed”
Ed and Henry go on a double date, and Ed tries to save his son from the embarrassment of being rejected. Elsewhere, Vince and Bonnie work on an ad campaign for their real-estate business.
30 Rock | 8:30pm on NBC
“Live Show”
In an episode performed live, Liz fumes during show night when the “TGS” gang all forget that it’s her 40th birthday. Meanwhile, Tracy concludes that it’s hilarious whenever an actor breaks character and laughs, so he does just that—all night. And Jack strains in his efforts to cease drinking during Avery’s pregnancy. [GMMR: Gotta love how the cast has a built-in way to laugh during the live show. Genius!]
The Office | 9pm on NBC
“Sex Ed”
Convinced he has herpes, Michael sets out to contact his former girlfriends, including Holly (Amy Ryan), Jan (Melora Hardin), Carol (Nancy Carell), Donna (Amy Pietz) and Helene (Linda Purl). Meanwhile, Andy conducts a sex-ed class in the office in a ploy to win over Erin. [GMMR: The return of Michael’s exes? This is going to be fantastic! I’m especially excited to see Carol and Holly, or should I say HOLLY!!!!]
Grey’s Anatomy | 9pm on ABC
“Can’t Fight Biology”
Derek and Meredith visit the obstetrician and receive disturbing news; Lexie notices April and Meredith growing closer; Jackson tries to get ahead in the operating room.
CSI | 9pm on CBS
“Sqweegel”
A serial killer known as Sqweegel who targets local heroes who harbor secrets, is loose in Las Vegas. Ann-Margret guest stars. [GMMR: I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Ann-Margret is NOT the serial killer.]
Fringe | 9pm on Fox
“Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep?”
Thomas Jerome Newton requires the services of a sleeping shape-shifter in response to a potentially dangerous situation that involves an important official. Meanwhile, an investigation at Massive Dynamic puts Walter in jeopardy and Olivia on high alert.
Project Runway | 9pm onBravo
“We’re in a New York State of Mind”
The designers are rewarded for their success and hard work with a luxurious evening in a penthouse suite. In addition, a renowned New York personality tasks the clothiers with their final assignment before Fashion Week.
Outsourced | 9:30pm on NBC
“Jolly Vindaloo Day”
Rajiv makes up a fake holiday to get Todd out of the office so he can pretend he’s managing the office in order to impress his future father-in-law. Elsewhere, Manmeet, Gupta and Madhuri seek help with a revenge plot.
Private Practice | 10pm on ABC
“A Better Place to Be”
Dell’s orphaned daughter, Betsey (Hailey Sole), arrives, stirring up emotions at Oceanside Wellness. Meanwhile, Pete and Amelia disagree about surgery for a pregnant woman who’s experiencing excruciating chronic pain.
The Mentalist | 10pm on CBS
“The Red Carpet Treatment”
An ex-con is murdered shortly after being released from prison after he was exonerated from a rape-and-murder conviction because of DNA evidence.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia | 10pm on FOX
“White Trash”
There’s a heat wave in Philly, so Mac and Charlie decide to fix up an abandoned pool after they’re denied admittance to a swim club. Meanwhile, Dennis and Dee try to beat the heat in a more “dignified” manner.
Also playing…
- The Apprentice | 10pm on NBC: The teams must produce a fashion shoe to launch a new shoe line; one team makes a risky decision while the other team faces a crisis.
- The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills | 10pm on Bravo | Season Premiere: This reality spin-off centers on six well-coddled women living in the lush land of 90210. The series premiere introduces the wives, who include siblings and former child stars Kyle and Kim Richards; businesswoman Adrienne Maloof; Brit restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump; Oklahoma native Taylor Armstrong; and model-actress Camille Grammer. Here, Adrienne takes her fellow wives on a private-jet getaway to a Sacramento Kings basketball game.

I have WAY too many shows tonight! I will most likely watch 30 Rock (can’t resist a live show!) and Project Runway tonight (a lot of my friends watch it live, so I have to so we can discuss!). And the DVR: Community, The Office (Holly!), The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy (which I’m almost ready to give up, already cancelled the recording for Private Practice), The Mentalist, The Real Housewives of DC reunion and the Beverly Hills premiere. (Oh, and The Vampire Diaries is a rerun tonight or not on, right? Sigh.)
I’ll definitely watch Community/30 Rock tonight, I’m SO excited for the live show. I’ll also be watching Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. I’ve read the spoiler for the major storyline for this season of PP and it should be really good. I’ll also be recording The Office, I am so excited for the exes to come back, Big Bang Theory, and Fringe. I’m upset that Vampire Diaries isn’t on 🙁
