SMALLVILLE: Isis
October 24, 2010 by Sarah Luoma
Clark and Oliver decided to team up with Tess Mercer?! Never thought we would see the day! Sure, when Clark was younger, and naive, he always fell for the Lex’s charm, but again? Without Chloe’s savvy computer skills or Carter Hall, who has gone MIA, the super duo was obviously desperate for help as they tried to free Lois from the control of Isis.
The good to come out of Lois being possessed (once again) was Isis’ lesson for Clark. Isis’ obsession with getting back the love of her life seemed to help Clark find a happy medium with his own issues of the heart. His definition of love and just how far he would go for Lois really came into question. Even though Isis was about to bring on the apocalypse in order to get her one true love, Osiris, back, she did manage to give Clark the courage he needed to tell Lois about his true identity. After gaining perspective, Clark sharing his secret seemed to be no big deal after all this time. Lois took it well.
Of course we already knew that she was well aware of his alter ego, the blur, this whole time. The two are well on their way to living out the familiar Superman story created decades ago. And what did you think of Cat’s return? Lois was especially testy and territorial when it came to Clark. One of my favorite scenes of the episode was when Cat stabbed Lois in the hand with a pen before accusing her of being the blur. After witnessing Lois as Isis, Kat was convinced that Lois was in fact the notorious superhero of Metropolis. Could she be more wrong? Cat’s theory also earned a few laughs from Tess whose loyalties to Clark where once again put to the test.
It was cool to see Oliver and Clark team up once again. Working together they managed to save Lois from taking down the world well she was under the control of Isis. Watching the green arrow stuff Cat into a sarcophagus was also pretty funny! Lois was pretty convincing in her white toga attire with gold gear to match! Erica Durance’s transformation into the sexy goddess was excellent and played out well! As was Tess’ human side in this episode. Surprising I know!
The writers have really zoomed in on Tess recently since the departure of Chloe, and I am not sure what to make of it. Normally cold and on a devious mission, we’re seeing a new side of Tess. She’s human! And she has become like a mother to Alexander. So what are her plans with Lex’s clone? I’m not sure but it can’t be good. Is she preparing to use him as one of her weapons? He’s growing at a fast rate and Tess does have a penchant for superheroes and power. Will she mold him into her own little soldier? And how will her role as the new watch tower go? Which brings me to the end of the episode?
Why was Tess crying after being brought on board the superhero circle by Clark and Oliver? Did I miss something here? Was she happy? Or is she feeling guilty? Let me know what you think below! Don’t forget to check out next week’s episode when Clark and Lois end up stranded out of town and Tess tries to find the help Alexander needs!
