FRINGE: ‘Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep?’

I love Fox. I love baseball. However, I do not approve when the two mix, because then they take FRINGE off the air until November.
Yes, people, you read that right. That final scene we saw this week? NO RESOLUTION UNTIL NOVEMBER. And since FRINGE is switching universes every episode, we’ll have to wait until mid-November to pick back up where we left off.
Sigh.
But I think we can all agree this Thursday’s hour was an important one. A lot of foreshadowing to discuss, so let’s get to it…

GREY’S ANATOMY: ‘Can’t Fight Biology’
October 15, 2010 by Christina Scanlon
Filed under #1 featured, Grey's Anatomy, Grey's Anatomy Recap
I’m not sure what surprised me more about this week’s episode of GREY’S ANATOMY: the fact that April and Jackson got plotlines of their very own, or that I’m actually starting to like April. It pains me to admit it because ever since McDreamy rehired her last season, the girl has been nothing but a wimpy blur of uselessness to the point where I wish it had been April instead of Reed who got killed by the crazy gunman. Reed was bitchy, but she had substance and I respected her. April – not so much. Until now.
Her budding friendship with Meredith is doing her a world of good. Meredith has her flaws, but one of the great things about her is she doesn’t worry much about what others think, a quality that seems to be rubbing off on April. When Cristina and Meredith poke fun at her virgin uterus (no pun intended), it’s nice to see her confidently join in the banter and find the ability to laugh at herself. It’s the first time she’s really seemed like part of the group.
Lexie is somewhat less happy than I am about April becoming one of the gang. Suddenly April has moved into the good bedroom in the house and is talking about putting up a chore wheel. More significantly, Meredith is confiding in April about her reproductive problems while Lexie is out of the loop. Lexie’s perceived rivalry with April sheds light on some interesting parallels between the two, since April is kind of like a much more annoying version of Lexie from back in the day. Their story this week lets us see how much Lexie’s character has evolved over the years – she’s gone from being the meek and timid one herself to being assertive enough to tell Meredith she feels brushed aside and alone during one of the most stressful times of her life. Meredith reassures Lexie that this is not the case and she is not alone. If this was an episode of Full House, emotional music would be swelling up right about now, and someone would say something like “You’ll always be my sister and I will always love you no matter what!” This is GREY’S, however, so instead we get something more like “It’s completely normal that you feel like running people over with cars now and then.” Still a cute scene though.
Speaking of Meredith’s health issues, we find out that she’ll have a hard time becoming a mother because her uterus is hostile due to “massive baby-squishing fibroids”. This news, along with a patient who will eventually die of Huntington’s Disease, propels her into a might-as-well-see-what-else-is-wrong mood, and she decides to get tested for the Alzheimer’s gene to find out if she’ll end up like her mother. Derek, however, decides that all this medical testing is a total buzzkill and that they should just live and stop worrying about what life may or may not throw at them. Meredith smiles and agrees. Who can resist that good old McDreamy hair optimism?
The only other significant plotline this episode involves Jackson, who turns on the charm in a major way in order to get Teddy to let him assist with a surgery. He even conveniently allows her to see him with his shirt off, at which point I completely stop paying attention because HOT DAMN that boy’s got abs! Does he LIVE at the gym? Oh look at that, I drooled a little bit. Focus, girl. Back to the show… So for most of the episode, his flirty eyes and magical muscle tone appear to be working, until Teddy shockingly calls him out and firmly tells him that he is a smart and capable guy and shouldn’t be relying on tactics like flirting to get ahead. You tell him, Teddy. Now do me a favor and keep talking to him for a while so the shirtless scene can last as long as possible.
Other odds and ends: Cristina and Owen buy a house with a fireman’s pole, Chief Webber wants to put Derek on a billboard to promote the hospital, and Callie and Arizona continue their string of non-issues with a plotline about how Arizona doesn’t like Mark because he always stares at her boobs. In the end she decides that yes, Mark is a pig, but he’s a nice pig and he’s Callie’s best friend so she had better find a way to like him too.
Overall it wasn’t the most eventful GREY’S, but it was a pretty good filler episode as filler episodes go, and next week looks to be more on the heavy side so for now the fluff is fine with me.
What did you all think? Do you think Teddy and Jackson would ever actually hook up? How do you feel about the direction April’s character is going? Let us know in the comments section below!

BONES: ‘The Body and the Bounty’
October 15, 2010 by Sarah Curtis
It’s that time of year again, BONES fans: our last episode before the Fox baseball break. So we’ve got to make this one count!
Before we get to a breakdown of “The Body and the Bounty,” I want to bring two quotes from this episode up to the forefront of the discussion. The first is from Bunsen Jude, The Science Dude (played A-MAAAA-ZINGly by David Alan Grier) to Brennan: “If at first you don’t succeed, you pick yourself up, and ignoring all the doomsayers and mopey-dopes, you try again.”
The second quote is from the second bounty hunter to Booth, “It’s the thrill of the chase, right?”
Was anyone else as encouraged by those as I was? Though on the surface the lines appear to be case-related, in my opinion they spoke right to the heart for both Brennan and Booth. They may never admit it, or put them into context of their relationship, but I feel we can do that. Brennan can try again; Booth can be intrigued by that chase again. What do you think? What OTHER lines were meaningful to you? Before we get to that, let’s take a look at what went down…

City College has a space simulator!
Great scott!
Dean Pelton is determined to keep up with the collegiates at CC and decides Greendale must have a simulator of its own in tonight’s episode.
And for some reason, he decides our favorite study group is capable of cleaning and refurbishing the school’s old one — which looks a lot like a Winnebago, but whatever — and, well, that’s when all hell breaks loose of course.
If you’re familiar with the 1995 film, APOLLO 13, this half hour will provide some huge laughs. If not, you may miss a few things, but it’s still funny and smart and silly, as COMMUNITY usually is.
Lots of good nods to Kentucky Fried Chicken too. So if you’re a fan of the old Colonel, you’ve got another reason to tune in.
Will you?

One of television’s funniest shows is upping its cool factor this week.
Thanks to a Howard fantasy, THE BIG BANG THEORY welcomes two sci-fi icons tonight: STAR TREK’s George Takei and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff.
Of course, this isn’t the first appearance for Sackhoff on TBBT — who can forget her bathtub rendezvous with Howard? — but it seems she’ll be decked out in BSG gear this time around.
Take an early look…

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, October 14, 2010

Filed under #1 featured, Tonight's TV Spotlight
When did it become Thursday? I can’t tell if this week went by super fast or really slow. I’ll have to get back to you on Sunday. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, it’s one of the best nights of the week for television.
I have to say, more than anything tonight, I’m beyond excited for the LIVE episodes of 30 ROCK. I say episodes because the show will be different on the East Coast and then later for the West. The uber-talented cast of 30 ROCK will be joined by Matt Damon, Jon Hamm and I’m sure some other surprise guests. Talk about must see TV!
Which shows are you going to watch live, DVR for later, or skip altogether?
Here are a few highlights from tonight’s tube lineup…
The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS
“The Hot Troll Deviation”
Wolowitz is embarrassed when a secret of his is revealed; and Sheldon and Raj battle at work. [GMMR: Howard’s secret must be really bad. It takes a lot to embarrass that guy. Something tells me it might have something to do with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff who returns in this ep in which Howard may be trying to get Bernadette back.]
Community | 8pm on NBC
“Basic Rocket Science”
Dean Pelton asks the study group to clean and refurbish the Greendale flight simulator; after an accidental launch, Abed must navigate a safe return.
Bones | 8pm on Fox
“The Body in the Bounty”
When a skull and decomposing hands are found in a dumpster, the team searches for the rest of the victim’s remains; Brennan agrees to shoot an episode of a children’s show with professor Bunsen, “The Science Dude” Jude (David Alan Grier). [GMMR: In case you missed it… BONES: Do Booth and Brennan Love Each Other – We ask Hart Hanson.]
$#*! My Dad Says | 8:30pm on CBS
“Code Ed”
Ed and Henry go on a double date, and Ed tries to save his son from the embarrassment of being rejected. Elsewhere, Vince and Bonnie work on an ad campaign for their real-estate business.
30 Rock | 8:30pm on NBC
“Live Show”
In an episode performed live, Liz fumes during show night when the “TGS” gang all forget that it’s her 40th birthday. Meanwhile, Tracy concludes that it’s hilarious whenever an actor breaks character and laughs, so he does just that—all night. And Jack strains in his efforts to cease drinking during Avery’s pregnancy. [GMMR: Gotta love how the cast has a built-in way to laugh during the live show. Genius!] Read more
BONES: Do Booth and Brennan Love Each Other?

Yes, BONES fans, things are a little different this season.
Hannah loves Booth. Booth seems to love Hannah.
But what about Booth and Brennan? Despite all that has happened, do they still love each other?
I chatted with series creator Hart Hanson and he offered some insight on that and why the duo “still have a relationship that no one else can have.” We also talked about Brennan’s retreat to her “safe place.”

Yeah, it feels weird to me, too. Walter has always seemed most at home in his basement lab, surrounded by his toys (and Gene, the cow!). But what does William Bell’s gift of Massive Dynamic mean for our favorite mad scientist?

When it was recently revealed that William Bell’s will left Walter in control of Massive Dynamic, were you a little surprised?
After all, while Walter was Bell’s former partner, Nina was by his side for years, long after Walter was locked away. It would have made sense for her to be the one in charge with Bell now gone, no?
