LOOK: New Showtime Series Explores Big Brother and Beyond

Attention BIG BROTHER fans. Though your favorite experience in voyeuristic media isn’t currently in season and you can’t fall asleep to a bunch of captive housemates caught on camera and broadcast on Showtime After Dark, the network does have a new latenight viewing option for you.

Premiering this Sunday, October 10th, at midnight, is the series, LOOK, from writer-director Adam Rifkin (UNDERDOG, ZOOM, SMALL SOLDIERS). Based on the independent film that Rifkin released in 2007, the show follows several fictional storylines, all shot using surveillance cameras, cell phone cameras and webcams.

As we’re told near the beginning of the first episode, the average American is caught on camera close to 300 times a day. Because of this, plus all the tweeting, Facebooking, texting, sexting and video chatting that people are choosing to engage in, our loss of personal privacy — both voluntary and involuntary — as well as face-to-face, old fashioned interaction is explored.

Also, it’s kind of racy and fun and not bad TV fare for pre-bedtime.

GREY’S ANATOMY: ‘Superfreak’

Gather round everyone, it’s exposure therapy time on GREY’S ANATOMY. Could you directly confront the one thing that scares you the most? ‘Cause that’s what it’s all about for doctors and patients alike in this week’s episode.

For some of our Seattle Gracers, that means dealing with some residual phobias leftover from the shooting. Alex, for example, has developed a fear of elevators after nearly bleeding to death in one. Fortunately Chief Webber is able to cure him pretty quickly by making him ride it until he’s not so much afraid of elevators as he is sick of them.

FRINGE: ‘Real is just a matter of perception’

When I chatted with FRINGE star Jasika Nicole up on the Vancouver set of FRINGE, she mentioned that, while the “mindset” of the series’ two universes pit them against each other and each view the other as the “bad” guy, the audience — as detached observers — might not know who to side with because neither appears to be in the wrong.

And she had a good point. I don’t want this alternate universe to collapse. They’re a fun group of people — interesting characters with new dynamics and relationships to explore.

However, I also have to admit that as of right now I’m enjoying our universe just a tiny bit more. Watching our Olivia unknowingly rebuild her life in the other universe is fascinating and compelling, but part of what drew me into the series was the dynamic between our Walter, Peter and Olivia. And I miss that when we’re in the alternate world.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Would You Rather ‘Kill or Be Killed’?

Previously on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES…It was revealed that Katherine had a hand in organizing the very vampire burning that she was thought to have perished in. Elena and Katherine came face-to-face. Kat enlisted (re: threatened) Caroline to help her spy on Stefan and Elena. Tyler learned more about his ancestry than perhaps he wanted to know. I complained that there wasn’t enough excitement or Steven R. McQueen.

Quite happy to report that not only did McQueen — aka Jeremy — make an appearance in “Kill or Be Killed” but there was enough excitement in this episode to power the entire town of Mystic Falls.

I’m not sure where to start. I suppose it might behoove us to talk about one Mr. Mason Lockwood, as he was at the core of many of last night’s mishaps. Still bitter after Damon tried to kill him last week, Mason wasn’t eager to accept the olive branch extended by Stefan on behalf of himself, his brother, Edward, Alice, Angel, Spike and the rest of the gang. Ready to be rid of his supernatural cohorts for good, Mason outed Damon and Stefan as vamps to Sheriff Forbes, whom you may recall is an active participant in that pesky little Founder’s Council. Way to be a tattletale, Mase Dogg.

A little lemonade laced vervain was all it took to convince Liz that Mason wasn’t lying.  The two lured Damon and Stefan into the woods and then shot them with wooden bullets and pumped them full of the v juice. Sucks to be a Salvatore.

BONES: ‘The Maggots in the Meathead’

Yo, yo, yo, BONES pals! I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this JERSEY SHORE-inspired episode, but I have to admit that I liked this case. How about you?

Once again, the writers thread the personal lives of the characters alongside the criminal action. “Irony” is a theme this season… and it’s ironic that just as Brennan may have been ready to pursue a relationship with Booth beyond “just partners,” he’s with Hannah, and it’s ironic that Brennan is so intuitive about Hannah but misses that she’s been watching MTV and not an actual documentary.

Remember just the other day when we were talking about the crowded Monday night TV lineup? Yeah, well we’re back at it again with Thursday’s packed schedule. Seriously, this is just cruel.

Which shows are you going to watch live, DVR for later, or skip altogether?

SURVIVOR: Nicaragua – ‘Pulling the Trigger’

I know we’ve got a long way to go before the $1 million winner is revealed, but SURVIVOR really needs to pick up the pace. This is the second week in a row that I found myself bored out of my skull.

Tell me if you’ve heard this one before…

Jimmy T. is complaining that his tribe won’t let him show his leadership skills. NaOnka and her nasty attitude are busy bullying her tribemates. Dan is complaining about his physical ailments. Kelly B’s artificial leg is the subject of conversation. Brenda is walking around the beach looking all kinds of hot. (I didn’t want it to be all negative.)

The events above could describe pretty much any episode from the season thus far. The story remains the same. The producers seem intent on focusing on a few players while others are barely getting any screen time. Maybe the producers are just mourning the loss of Jimmy Johnson. Who knows. But as Dan and I discussed during the last TV Talk Podcast, the game of SURVIVOR presents natural drama, the producers shouldn’t try so hard to look for it.

BONES’ Michaela Conlin Teases the Jersey Shore Episode, Reveals How She Wants Booth and Brennan to Hook Up

Just in case you need another reason to love BONES star Michaela Conlin, you can add the video below to your list.

Not only is her character, Angela, arguably the original Booth-Brennan shipper, but Conlin has some ideas of her own about how B and B should eventually get together.

After we chatted a bit about the show’s season 6 reset, this week’s JERSEY SHORE-inspired episode, and Cyndi Lauper’s possible return to the series, Conlin revealed that she feels Angela should be the one to finally force Booth and Brennan into each other’s arms.

Fox Orders a Full Season of RAISING HOPE

And the first freshman show of the 2010-2011 season to get a full order pickup is…Fox’s RAISING HOPE.

Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company, confirmed that the sitcom’s back nine episodes will be produced, via press release today.

“With RAISING HOPE, Greg Garcia captures a smart take on the working-class family with a great mix of wild comedy and a big dose of heart,” said Reilly. “The show is running like a Swiss clock, and we’re very happy with how well audiences have responded so far – so we’re confident it will build an even bigger audience throughout the season.”

A pretty big deal considering Fox’s less-than-stellar track record with live action comedies.

“I’m really happy for our incredibly talented cast and very hard-working crew. They have done an amazing job and deserve this,” said RAISING HOPE creator Greg Garcia in a statement. “Me? I was looking forward [to] some time off, but I guess that’s not going to happen.”

No sir, it is not.
