BONES vs. CASTLE: Who Did Their X-FILES Homage Better?

November 16, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Bones, Castle

BONES and CASTLE often draw comparisons to each other.

Both shows have Whedon-alumni as leading men. Both pair a writer with a member of law enforcement (though on BONES, Brennan’s primary job is in forensic anthropology) to solve quirky crimes.

And yes, with tonight’s episode of CASTLE paying homage to THE X-FILES, both shows have honored the sci-fi series in the past calendar year. (BONES aired ‘The X in the File’ last January).

So, which show did it better?

CHUCK: ‘Chuck Versus the Fear of Death’

November 15, 2010 by

Despite lacking both in ‘cliff’ and ‘hanger’, this week’s hour of CHUCK did serve as the first installment of a two-part episode which leaves the audience wondering whether Chuck Bartowski will find a way out of a harrying situation before he is lobotomized or killed. I’m gonna stop you right here and serve up a big old SPOILER ALERT – Chuck makes it out of this situation just fine.  In case you were really concerned, the titular character is going to live.  I hope I didn’t ruin the suspense for you. I’m such a buzzkill sometimes.

Not sure “Chuck vs. the Fear of Death” will go down as one of my favorite episodes of the series, but parts of it were entertaining enough that I certainly wouldn’t count this ep as one of the worst.

BONES: Michaela Conlin on the Brennan-Angela Friendship and the Hannah Factor

One thing you can say for sure about BONES star Michaela Conlin? She is an excellent tease.

In part 2 of Give Me My Remote‘s interview with Conlin (you can read part one here), we chatted about the “complicated” Brennan point of view episode which is set to air soon, the Brennan-Angela friendship, how much Angela really knows about Booth and Brennan’s relationship, plus what she thinks of the Hannah-Brennan friendship. And it sounds like things are about to get intense…

CASTLE: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Tamala Jones Talk Lyle Lovett

Monday’s episode of CASTLE brings Castle and Beckett into the unexplained…with alien abductions?!

Yep, CASTLE is getting its X-FILES on tonight when an astrophysicist’s body is found. Castle jokes that she was killed in outer space — and the evidence supports him.

The hour gets additional science fiction cred from guest star Lance Henriksen (the former star of MILLENNIUM), who plays an alien abduction expert. And Lyle Lovett — yes, that Lyle Lovett — has the CASTLE stars gushing over his appearance on the show.

SMALLVILLE: ‘Abandoned’

Comments Off on SMALLVILLE: ‘Abandoned’

Hey, SMALLVILLE fans! I’m stepping in for Sarah to recap the show this week. And boy, what an episode to take on!

It all kicks off with Tess dreaming about her childhood. She’s a frightened young girl, trying to escape an unseen woman, but is unable to hide. The woman drags Tess away as a music box plays — man, how sharp are Tess’s nails that she can claw marks into wood like that as she’s being pulled away? Tess wakes up from the dream and finds the music box in her home. Uh oh.

After the General left, he sent Lois a box of her mother’s things. Lois had kept the box in her closet for 15 years, but her guilt for not going to the hospital to say goodbye to her mother has kept her from opening it up. She discovers her mom left her videos but reluctant to watch them.

SUPERNATURAL: All Dogs Go To Heaven

November 14, 2010 by

Well, I could have done with a little less dog murder, but it was still an enjoyable, if creepy, episode. There wasn’t much that directly dealt with the show’s mythology, but we did get some nice moments, both brother-wise and monster-wise, that will continue to have an impact throughout the season. What this episode was really about was getting Dean on board with the “be Crowley’s bitch” plan in order to get Sam’s soul back. The season so far, while really enjoyable, has felt a bit aimless so I’m happy that we now have a specific goal established (restore Sam), and a means by which to attain it (capture a live alpha for Crowley).

GREY’S ANATOMY: ‘Something’s Gotta Give’

The first thing that comes to my mind after watching this week’s episode of GREY’S ANATOMY? Alex Karev officially wins the award for least personal growth by any character on any show ever. At the beginning of the series he was Seattle Grace’s resident jerk, way before Mark showed up and temporarily stole that title from him. Now, six and a half years later, Mark has mellowed out and Alex is still the same old jerk seemingly hell-bent on making everyone hate his guts.

You’d think he’d at least try to be a decent guy to April. She hasn’t been there long enough to know him that well, so she’s probably the only girl in the hospital who’s even capable of being attracted to him at this point. Up until he screws her over too.
