SMALLVILLE Season 10 Kicks Off Tonight

SMALLVILLE is back tonight, you guys, and super fan — and GMMR contributor — Sarah L. has been kind enough to whet our Clark Kent appetites with a tease of what’s on tap. Please enjoy…

Are you ready for SMALLVILLE season 10?! I know I am. While we all have been patiently awaiting its return, we got tons of news this summer — especially regarding guest appearances galore and the premise for this final year — which makes me even more excited!

Says The CW, “Season ten promises the classic reuniting of the timeless romance between Clark and Lois, and brings Clark face-to-face with his destiny as he overcomes his final trials and forges the iconic identity that will be known for all time.”

Superman!!

Before we break into the rest of what’s to come, I can’t help but rewind back to the sad news we all received at the end of season 9: Chloe (Allison Mack) leaving Smallville as a regular resident!! Talk about unexpected, not to mention seriously disappointing. Recently debuting in the comic books for the first time is a bit of a consolation, but I’m still sad that Mack will only be a guest star, popping in now and then this year.

THE OFFICE Season Premiere: ‘Nepotism’

When I was little, my mom used to tell me that if I ever lost something, I should go back to where I started and retrace my steps in the hopes that I’d find what I was looking for along the way. Perhaps my mom had the same talk with the writers of THE OFFICE. If so, thanks Mom!

After what was a shaky sixth season, THE OFFICE returned last night with a fantastic half hour. I’m sure it’s kind of lazy to say that the episode felt like the good ol’ days of THE OFFICE, but in the most important ways, it did.

Tonight’s lineup is chock full of goodness.  I know many of you will be tuned into The CW for the premieres of SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL…me too!  But at 10 p.m., you should give BLUE BLOODS a shot.  I thought it was really good.  And I’m not just saying that because it stars Donnie Wahlberg (Hangin’ Tough!).

“Lazarus”
In the Season 10 opener, Lois saves Clark’s life by removing the blue kryptonite incapacitating him. Elsewhere, Chloe hunts for Oliver while Tess finds herself in a LuthorCorp lab. And Jonathan returns to the farm with a message for Clark.

Medium | 8pm on CBS | Season Premiere
“Bring Your Daughter to Work Day”
Season 7 opens with Allison and daughter Bridgette sharing the same dream, which revolves around a missing homeless man. Before long, mother and daughter swap personalities, giving rise to various complications at home, at school and at work. Tony Sirico guest stars.

Supernatural | 9pm on The CW | Season Premiere
“Exile on Main Street”
The sixth season begins with Sam being released from hell and trying to convince Dean to rejoin him in fighting evil. To help persuade him, Sam introduces Dean to a new family led by their grandfather Samuel (Mitch Pileggi).

The Good Guys | 9pm on Fox
“Vacation”
Dan funds an off-the-books sting operation with money he “borrowed” from the Narcotics Division, which inadvertently finances a jailbreak that Dan and Jack must stop.

CSI:NY | 9pm on CBS | Season Premiere
“34th Floor”
The seventh season begins with new team member Jo Danville (Sela Ward) discovering the body of a young woman who was murdered somewhere in the New York crime-lab building.

Blue Bloods | 10pm on CBS | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
A New York crime drama focusing on a multigenerational family of cops headed by the city’s police commissioner (Tom Selleck). In the opener, the youngest son graduates from the police academy. Meanwhile, his older brother investigates a girl’s kidnapping and is accused of using excessive force to solve the case.

Outlaw | 10pm on NBC
“In Re: Officer Daniel Hale”
Garza and his team head to Arizona when an immigration stop results in a police officer being shot; Al wonders why he joined Garza’s team; Lucinda encourages Mereta to make her big move for Garza.

Haven | 10pm on Syfy
“The Trial of Audrey Parker”
Agent Howard visits Haven to question Audrey about her strange behavior as a local policewoman, but the interrogation is derailed when two of the town’s criminals hijack Duke’s boat with Howard, Audrey and Duke aboard.

The Soup | 10p m on E!
Every week Joel McHale and The Soup crew load up their TiVos to find the strange, obscure and totally unbelievable moments in pop culture, celebrity news and reality TV. Then they deliver the best of it with an irreverent attitude that’s sure to satisfy your comedy cravings.

GREY’S ANATOMY: Can We Talk About ‘With You I’m Born Again’?

Well, say what you will about the 7th season premiere of GREY’S ANATOMY, but you can’t accuse them of not dealing with the aftermath of the trauma inflicted on everyone in the finale.  No magical TV fix here – a month after the incident (which, thanks to Lexie, we know officially qualifies as a “mass murder”) all of the characters are dealing with some pretty heavy post-traumatic stress.  Let’s recap, shall we?

The bad news for our favorite surgeons is that they must be cleared by a therapist (played by James Tupper) before they’re allowed back to work in the OR.  The good news is that the therapist is YUMMY.  I know surgery is their life and all, but if I were one of them I might not be in a hurry to recover…

Not that most of them are recovering quickly anyway.  Lexie in particular has had such a rough time that she suffered a nervous breakdown and had to be committed to the psych ward.  50 hours of drugged-up sleep later, she’s back to normal, although now she seems a bit TOO calm.  It’s creepy.  The one positive here is that her hair is brown again – I never really bought her as a blonde.  Oh, and the other positive is that she totally tells off Alex (who’s back to his usual jackass self) for being a jerk despite the fact that (or maybe because) she saved his life.

FRINGE: Olivia is Not Quite Herself

Oh boy.

When Joshua Jackson told me that season 3 was all about Olivia and her arc, he wasn’t kidding.

Last we saw our girl, Walternate had trapped her in a mysterious room in the alternate universe. Meanwhile, Fauxlivia returned to our universe with an unsuspecting Peter and Walter, successfully infiltrating our world.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: ‘Bad Moon Rising’

Previously on THE VAMPIRE DIAIRES….

Caroline became a vamp and quickly got out of control. Stefan stepped up and offered to help her adjust to his way of life. Both Tyler and Damon suspected that something isn’t quite right with Uncle Mason. They’re correct.

This week, the search to uncover the Lockwood family mystery continued. Damon was clearly worried. Why else would he call in Alaric for advice? Not that I’m complaining. Just last Thursday, I was wondering where good old Rick was hiding out and voila, here he is!

The D word was interested to know if Isobel said anything about the family in her pre-dead pillow talk. It seems that Izzy once spoke of the legend of werewolves in Mystic Falls, but that can’t be right…monsters aren’t real.

MY GENERATION Creator Noah Hawley: It’s Important the Audience Feels Like They’re Watching Something Emotionally Real

MY GENERATION premieres tonight at 8 on ABC and it’s one of my favorite new shows. Unfortunately, it is also in an incredibly difficult time slot opposite several other series I love.

Still, if you can DVR MY GENERATION, or watch it on ABC.com tomorrow, I think you should give it a shot.

The drama is shot documentary style, initially following nine seniors at a Texas high school and then checking back in with them 10 years later.

When I caught up with MY GENERATION creator Noah Hawley at the Paley Center’s Fall TV Preview Party, he told me it was important to him that the audience feels like they’re watching something emotionally real — and that Twitter is helping him achieve that.

Indeed, Hawley is active on Twitter and frequently updated his feed during the filming of the pilot. His Twitter followers were privy to things like the first cast dinner, behind the scenes pictures, etc.

THE OFFICE: Greg Daniels and Mindy Kaling on Steve Carell’s Departure and the New Season

For months, people have been talking non-stop about Steve Carell’s exit from THE OFFICE.

Don’t get us wrong — it’s a huge deal. Carell’s absence — as well as the departure of Michael Scott — will be heavily felt once he leaves.

In the fourth-season opener, Sheldon goes on a date with Amy Fowler—-his first date ever—and Penny finds herself accompanying them. “Anthropology 101”

COMMUNITY: Season 2 Starts with Betty White, a Trip to Space and a Couple Awesome Holidays

Scheduled opposite THE BIG BANG THEORY — a serious ratings winner — this season, COMMUNITY creator Dan Harmon is pulling out all the stops to make sure every killer episode that’s been living in his head comes to our TV screens this fall… just in case the show gets canceled.

Of course, as a huge fan of the brilliantly written sitcom, I’m betting that NBC will stick with it for some time given its creative genius and critical buzz.

Still, numbers are important too, you guys, so please watch COMMUNITY tonight. DVRs were invented so we can see both NBC’s line up and CBS’ too. Let’s take advantage of that.

As Harmon tells us in the video interview below, he’s got a lot on tap this year: “In the first six [episodes], we’re doing stuff that you shouldn’t be allowed to do in an entire season.”

There’s a space ship ep that simulates the study group going into the cosmos. There’s a half hour with Rob Corddry and Drew Carey, during which we’ll visit Jeff’s old law firm. There’s an extravagant Halloween episode, which star Gillian Jacobs (Britta) says will top last year’s ep — and, yeah, when you see Senor Chang’s costume, you’ll agree. And there’s a Christmas episode which will be completely in the animated stop-motion medium like the old Christmas classics that brought us joy as kids.

And don’t forget to tune in tonight for Ms. Betty White as she guest stars in COMMUNITY’s season 2 premiere, playing an anthropology professor who teaches Jeff a lesson or two… something he’s sorely in need of since he made out with Annie just moments after publicly rejecting Britta last spring.

When the show returns this evening — on the first day of school — this matter will most definitely be revealed and pondered and discussed. And we’ll get to see Jeff shirtless… which is really all you needed to hear, right?

COMMUNITY season 2 premieres tonight, Thurs., Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
