Welcome to Tuesday, GMMRers. So far The CW has owned the fall premieres, but NBC throws their hat in the ring tonight in a big way with the second season opener of PARENTHOOD. Not to say The CW is slacking. In fact, they are back tonight with LIFE UNEXPECTED and ONE TREE HILL, two fan favorite shows that will have everyone talking tomorrow.

So with these returning series bowing and our summer faves wrapping up, there is plenty of TV to check out this evening. Decisions, decisions.

But enough of my jibber jabber. Let’s get to some of the highlights of tonight’s TV lineup…

“Asleep at Heaven’s Gate”
In the eighth-season opener, Clay and Quinn face life-threatening injuries after being shot by Katie. Meanwhile, Nathan prepares for training camp in the wake of Haley’s pregnancy news; and Brooke and Julian return from Utah newly engaged. Covert Affairs | 9pm on USA | Seasons Finale
“I Can’t Quit You, Baby”; “When the Levee Breaks”
Annie needs to be recruited by smugglers; Arthur and Joan must bring Henry Wilcox back into the fold. And then in the season premiere, Annie and Ben work together on a mission to rescue an asset in Sri Lanka.

Sons of Anarchy | 10pm on FOX
“Oiled”
To get intel on Abel’s whereabouts, Jax and the club help a bounty hunter track down a skip; Gemma deals with her family issues.

Parenthood | 10pm on NBC | Season Premiere
“I Hear You, I See You”
Adam is overwhelmed with increasing demands from his boss (William Baldwin) and family needs; Sarah searches for a career path; Crosby gets ready for a visit from Jabbar and Jasmine; Haddie learns to drive.

Check out a sneak peek at S2 of PARENTHOOD with a special introduction by Erika Christensen just for GMMR readers.

  • Melissa & Joey | 8pm on ABC Family: Mel becomes suspicious of Joe and fears that he’s a spy trying to catch her unlawful brother-in-law, so she installs a nanny cam to keep a closer eye on him. Meanwhile, Mel worries that Ryder has fallen victim to a school bully.
  • Fashion’s Night Out | 10pm on CBS: Preparations begin for the second-annual event that celebrates fashion worldwide and supports local economies; Neil Patrick Harris hosts. [GMMR: Neil, I’m glad your hosting a charity gig, but you need to just say NO. P.S. I love you.]

With all those choices, what will YOU be watching?

BIG BANG THEORY Star Hurt in Horse Accident

September 13, 2010 by
Filed under The Big Bang Theory, TV News

Best wishes go out to THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Kaley Cuoco who broke her leg after reportedly falling off a horse this weekend. Poor girl.

Here’s to hoping Sheldon doesn’t start banging on her door (“Penny. Penny. Penny.”) because she sadly won’t be there to answer. As BIG BANG records in front of a live studio audience on Tuesday nights, Kaley had to be written out of this week’s episode at the last minute.

The show already had a previously scheduled hiatus built in for next week so the producers and Kaley will have an extra week to figure things out, depending on how she’s feeling.

We here at GMMR wish Kaley all the best for a speedy recovery!

ONE TREE HILL: Creator Mark Schwahn Spills on Haley’s Pregnancy, Brooke’s Wedding and What He’ll Do Differently in Season 8

September 13, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, One Tree Hill

Earlier this summer, I spent some time talking with ONE TREE HILL mastermind Mark Schwahn about what he was looking forward to doing with his beloved series as it enters year 8. Core characters, romance, a wedding and a baby were among the topics covered.

Of course the possible return of Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton came up as well, since this could very well be the last season of OTH and longtime fans would love to see the characters of Lucas and Peyton once again.

Read on to hear what Schwahn had to say about that and so much more… including the possibly fatal shooting of Haley’s sister Quinn (Shantel Van Santen) and Clay (Robert Buckley) last spring…

I know you’re excited about this upcoming season of the show. What can you tell me about your intentions for it?
MS:
We’ve had a lot of wonderful recurring [characters] on ONE TREE HILL, but I think that our core group is where we will focus our attentions in this next season. It used to be that we saw a lot of different characters and they became familiar faces in the world, but they didn’t necessarily have big story arcs that were serialized and multi-episodic. They were, you know, contained. Or they were appendages to somebody else’s story and I just think that that’s a better formula for us. So next season, we’ll probably focus our attentions more on our main group of regulars.

You’ll still have guest stars though, of course.
MS:
Yes, we have wonderful guest stars and we’ll still do that, but I don’t know if everyone will have a contained arc that goes on for six episodes where it’s like, okay, now let’s check in on this storyline. I just feel like we have this really tried and true group of regulars and that’s who our audience really believes in and cares for. And, you know, I think we found some new faces this past year that really worked and that’s great and we’ll obviously see them. But I just think we’ll be able to tell better stories if we spend a little more time on fewer [arcs].

GOSSIP GIRL kicks off its fourth season tonight at 9 p.m. on The CW. Keep reading for some ‘not too spoilery’ dish.

Ah, Paris – the city of love.  Fine wine, beautiful art, delectable food and just when you think it couldn’t get any better, Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen arrive. Hold on to your berets, boys.

When we last saw our favorite Upper East Siders, all were quite busy escaping — or at least trying to escape — the never ending drama that is their lives.

This first week of the fall season is always a bit of a tease. Some shows are back, but not all. Summer reality shows are still hanging around. Enough of the foreplay, let’s just get to it already!

Tonight, The CW is doing their part to bring us into full swing with the premieres of 90210 and GOSSIP GIRL (more on that later).

Here are a few highlights from tonight’s TV lineup.

An earthquake wreaks havoc in Beverly Hills; Dixon and Annie deal with the absence of their father; Teddy suffers a career-threatening injury; Adrianna returns from her summer tour.

The Bachelor Pad | 8pm on ABC | Season Finale
“The Winners”
The Season 1 winners emerge from among three couples (six contenders in all), but not before a “Dancing With the Stars”-inspired competition and a reunion of all 19 contenders.

Gossip Girl | 8pm on The CW | Season Premiere
“Belles de Jour”
Chuck arrives in Paris with a beautiful new woman; Serena tries to avoid a decision; an intriguing woman helps Nate come to a realization; Dan’s drama with Georgina continues.

Nancy recruits a high-level hotel employee to help her move hash among the guests, as dishwasher Andy is cleaning up at his new job and bellboy Silas finds himself really hopping. Meanwhile, Shane is welcomed into a mommy support group after concocting a far-fetched yarn about Stevie’s parentage, and Cesar and Ignacio grill Doug about Nancy’s whereabouts.

The Big C | 10:30pm on Showtime
“Playing the Cancer Car”
An impulsive Cathy liquidates her retirement savings and buys a sporty red convertible, and also entertains thoughts about getting involved with Dr. Todd. Meanwhile, Paul rediscovers his love of rugby, and Marlene gets Adam out of a ticklish situation, but not without exacting some unusual demands from the teen.

Countdown to THE EVENT: Will YOU Be Watching?

September 13, 2010 by

After a summer of relentless promotion and creative teaser trailers, NBC’s THE EVENT premieres in just seven days. Though the show’s ubiquitous ads invited viewers to discover, “What IS The Event,” the biggest question facing NBC executives is, “Will YOU be watching?”

Launching a show at 9:00 p.m. on Monday night is a dangerous proposition. Competing for eyeballs with established hits like DANCING WITH THE STARS and TWO & A HALF MEN will immediately test the wisdom of NBC’s scheduling strategy. Since the show features established stars from NBC’s 10:00 p.m. hits of the past, Blair Underwood (L.A. Law) & Laura Innes (ER), I was surprised to see this high concept program scheduled earlier in prime time. Hopefully, the competition will spur the creative team behind THE EVENT to focus on top-shelf writing and innovative storytelling.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Kanye Song’ – “Innocent” at 2010 VMAs

September 12, 2010 by

A year later and people are still talking about Kanye West’s interruption during last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.  In the case of Taylor Swift, she’s not talking about it, she’s singing about it…

At tonight’s 2010 VMAs, Taylor Swift took to the stage to perform her new song, “Innocent”, which appears to absolve Kanye West for his career-damaging jackass moment. With lyrics like “who you are is not where you’ve been” and “32 is still growing up now,” it was clear that Ms. Swift was anointing Kayne with a dose of forgiveness. Was I the only one asking the question…who the hell cares?

I’m no Taylor Swift hater. Not at all. I dig her voice (as long as she’s not singing live).  However, as established as she was going into last year’s VMAs, there is no doubt that Swift’s run in with Kanye and the Moon Man statue elevated her fame to another level.  She handled herself well during an obviously humiliating moment, but is it fair to ask if we can move on a full year later?

Before you answer, here is the performance in question:

Taylor Swift wasn’t the only one singing about Kanye tonight.  Mr. West closed the show with his own auto-biographical tune, “Runaway,” which featured the lyrics “Let’s have a toast to the douchebags…”.

Per his request, I raise my glass to you, Kanye. Now go find Taylor Swift, make sweet, sweet love and put this behind you.

Were you enthralled by Taylor and Kanye’s dueling attempts at catharsis? Does either song stand out as a DVR moment, or did you fast forward to Justin Bieber? Any other VMA highlights/lowlights?

In what is probably the world’s worst kept secret, the second episode of BONES’ new season will officially introduce viewers to Booth’s new girlfriend, Hannah.

FOX has released episode stills from the hour, and yes, Katheryn Winnick (Hannah) is included in them.

Let’s go about this a little gently, okay?

First, take a look at the case Booth and Brennan will be working on…

THE BIG BANG THEORY’s Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco & Jim Parsons Have a Little Pool Time

Filed under The Big Bang Theory, TV News

If you’re like us and super excited for the return of THE BIG BANG THEORY, then you’ll probably get a kick out of this adorably fun video of BIG BANG stars Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco and Jim Parsons behind the scenes at their recent TV Guide Magazine photoshoot. The threesome will be gracing the cover of TV Guide’s ‘Returning Favorites’ issue.

No faking the chemistry here. These three are having a blast! As for jumping in the pool? That wasn’t at the request of the photographer. A little birdie told me that it was actually Kaley, Jim and Johnny’s idea. Again…how fun are they?!

THE BIG BANG THEORY premieres on it’s new night, Thursdays at 8/7c, on September 23rd.

I got a sneak peek at the season premiere and it was funny stuff. Can’t wait for all you BBT fans to check it out.

Do Your Part to ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ – Tonight!

September 10, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, TV News

Tonight, stars from TV, movies, sports and music will join together and lend their collective voices to a cause that seems to be one of the unfortunate common threads that connects us all — cancer.

For one hour we can forget about Twitter wars, ratings struggles and commercials. It’s a chance to see some of our favorite performers in a different setting and for a good cause.

Stand Up To Cancer is an initiative created to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. SU2C’s goal is to bring together the best and the brightest in the cancer community, encouraging collaboration instead of competition.

Tonight’s one hour, commercial-free telecast, hosted by Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer, will help to raise money to find a cure for cancer.

Stand Up To Cancer will air at 8PM EST & PST / 7PM CT on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, Showtime, The Style Network and TV One and streaming on over 30 websites.

Donations to SU2C can be made via telephone during the show, anytime online at www.su2c.org or Text STAND to 40202 to give $10 now. 100% of the funds received from the public go to research.

As someone who has lost friends and relatives to cancer, and who continually feels the need to stand up and fight for those friends and relatives STILL fighting their valiant battles against it, I’m drawn to this type of event.

Cancer is no respecter of persons. It doesn’t play favorites or choose its victims based on wealth or popularity. We’d be hard pressed to find someone we know who has NOT been affected by cancer in some way. And it’s that sort of human condition that makes it all so personal. And that is why it’s important for networks, musicians, writers, actors, bloggers, fans, all of us to join together as a united front and say, “We’re standing up”.

So even if you’ll be sitting at home on Friday night, I hope you’ll choose to StandUp2Cancer.

BIG BANG’s Jim Parsons Gets Down to Stand Up…2 Cancer

In honor of tonight’s Stand Up To Cancer event, I thought I would repost one of the best videos you will ever see. Seriously.

Jim Parsons of THE BIG BANG THEORY portrays 30 different characters including a sports fans, a Hollywood tourist, a woman with a yappy little dog, and a guy in his undies (no I’m not kidding) in this fantastic and hilarious music video by Zach Selwyn. The song and video were created to raise cancer awareness on behalf of the Stand Up 2 Cancer project.

This is funny stuff and it can’t be missed.  I don’t want to spoil you too much but you are about to see Sheldon Cooper doing some hip hop.  Again, you’re welcome.
