THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Let’s Discuss ‘The Return’

WARNING: If you haven’t yet seen tonight’s (Sept. 9) episode, stop reading or you’ll be spoiled…

So THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ second season premiere picked right back up where it left us last spring with Elena arriving home, discovering her daddy/uncle John minus five fingers and fighting for his life after Katherine’s attack. Thankfully (or not, depending whom you ask), daddy/uncle pulled through just fine… as did both Jeremy and Caroline.

Shocker!

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Welcomes HOUSE Star Jennifer Morrison

September 9, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, HIMYM, House, How I Met Your Mother

Back in July, GIVE ME MY REMOTE was eager to tell you about the new lady entering Ted Mosby’s life this season.

As HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas explained, Ted will get a call from Goliath National Bank, asking him to take another stab at designing their new headquarters. However there is a catch: He’ll have to destroy one of New York’s historical buildings in order to erect his masterpiece and, for Ted, a lover of nostalgia with respect for such things, he’ll be conflicted. The conflict will change shape, though, when he meets a woman whose passion in life is to preserve and protect this building. Said Thomas, she’s someone who would picket the destruction and she and Ted will become bitter enemies.

Today, CBS confirms that HOUSE alum Jennifer Morrison has signed on to play this very significant recurring role, which will no doubt take a romantic turn for Ted.

Morrison’s character, Zoey, will be in at least five episodes this season, though she may stick around for several more.

So, thoughts?

How do you HOUSE fans feel about J Mo’s jump to comedy?

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, September 9, 2010

September 9, 2010 by

Talk about a big night for The CW. They’ve got big money riding on the one-two punch of  THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and the all new NIKITA (sniff…already missing SUPERNATURAL in this time slot, but NIKITA is worth watching). Over the next two weeks, the other Thursday night shows will return and The CW won’t have the luxury of a relatively quiet evening with little competition, so be sure to check out the C Dub fare tonight as you may decide you want to stick with what they’re offering.

Here are a few highlights of this evening’s TV schedule. If I didn’t include the show you’ll be watching, drop a line in the comments and let us know.

The Vampire Diaries| 8pm on The CW | Season Premiere
“The Return”
The second season begins with Elena discovering her uncle John’s bloody body and learning Jeremy’s fate, and Damon realizing that Katherine has returned. Meanwhile, Caroline is taken to the hospital following a car accident, and Tyler’s mysterious uncle Mason arrives in town. [GMMR: This is one hell of a season premiere. The Dobrev is cramazing as Katherine/Elena! I watched it last night and loved every single second of it. I can’t wait to break it down with you after tonight’s episode.]

Big Brother | 8pm on CBS
“HOH Competition”
Tonight the final Head of Household competition of BIG BROTHER Season 12 takes place. The winner of part I of the HOH competition goes up against the winner of part II. Whomever prevails in tonight’s final HOH will secure a spot in the finale and choose who he will be going up against for the jury’s vote. [GMMR: All my fingers are crossed for a Lane & Hayden finale. I like Enzo, but those guys deserve to be there. Thoughts?]

WAREHOUSE 13: Where and When

September 8, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Warehouse 13

Carole King’s first hit. Mrs. F in her younger, ‘scarier’ years. Oh to have been around in 1961.

This week’s WAREHOUSE 13 was more pleasing than I anticipated. After last week’s promo, I was expecting the time-travel theme to be really cheesy, but Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly and the rest of the team really pulled it off quite well.

The warehouse team was joined by Rebecca, who season one fans might remember as the retired agent who warned Myka to leave the warehouse before it became all consuming. We know that Myka didn’t exactly heed her advice, but it was still nice to see Rebecca back in a slightly more optimistic frame of mind.

This week’s adventure took us back to 1961 and gave us a glimpse into quite the horrific event. A handful of young and beautiful women were stabbed and then turned into glass. The weapon of choice was a rogue artifact and Pete and Myka went on the hunt for it.

If you’ve got to go back in time, it’s always convenient to have H.G. Wells on your team. No? Helena rigged up one of her old time machines and allowed Pete and Myka to return to 1961 fora mere 22 hours and 19 minutes. During that time the two were able to take the form of Rebecca and her former co-agent/love interest, Jack.

While Pete was intent of saving the lives of the women killed in 1961, Myka was concerned with the negative impact altering events might have on the future.

Will HELLCATS Spell S-U-C-C-E-S-S for The CW?

September 8, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Hellcats, TV News

Beautiful yet bitchy. Dating the captain of the football team. Just a little too much pep in their step – that’s usually how cheerleaders are portrayed in TV and movies. Will the new CW series HELLCATS move us beyond the one dimensional stereotype of these leaders of cheer?

After seeing the first episode, the jury is still out.

I’m going to give the producers the benefit of the doubt on this one. I think they are trying to break the cheerleader mold and show the audience that not everyone fits into these carefully constructed boxes, but I can’t say they were successful with doing so in the pilot.

WHITE COLLAR Season Finale: Point Blank

September 8, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, White Collar

A special thanks to Mary for taking on the weekly discussions of WHITE COLLAR.  So happy that she’ll be back talking about Neal, Peter and the crew when the show returns in the winter.

Wow! It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the end of White Collar’s summer season already, but here we are. Let’s get to it!

Case of the Week

The case of the week wasn’t really a case, although Neal and Mozzie worked hard to make it appear that way. After deciding they needed to find Alex to figure out the music box mystery, Neal comes up with a way to smoke her out.

Mustard, coffee, perfume and imperfect stapling are just a few of the ways Mozzie and Neal “live the file” and make it appear legitimate. It seems a little over the top, especially when Moz hums the Batman theme to get into his role, but it works. Peter picks the Silver Burglar (a.k.a. Alex) file as the team’s next case to work.

  • Peter: What do you know about Spanish silver?
  • Neal: Do you even have to ask?
  • Peter: Oh, for once I wish I did.

[Side note: Really? The FBI is now so caught up and plain old bored that they need to go LOOKING for cases? Is this how it works?]

GLEE: You Ask, I Answer on the Season Premiere

September 8, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Glee, Glee Spoilers

So, yes, I hit the GLEE season premiere party on the Paramount Lot here in Hollywood last night and, as promised, I’m down to answer your questions on the episode, the actors, etc…

Hey Korbi! Could you please get some Finchel, Artie/Tina, Quick and Wemma scoop? We’re getting antsy for the premiere! Have fun! -@MarzGlee via Twitter
As I reported earlier this summer, Finn and Rachel are very much together this season, but their relationship isn’t over-the-top/in-your-face. Not in this first ep, anyway. You’ll spot them holding hands in a scene or two and they’re certainly there to support each other, since they both hit a personal low in the premiere, but the hour isn’t focused on them as a couple, which I think is cool. Artie, I will say, seems brokenhearted over Tina leaving him for Mike Chang (and Finn’s willingness to help him get her back is what ultimately leads to his low, poor kid). You won’t see too much of Puck in the premiere, but Quinn is back in full head Cheerio form and may even cat fight it out with one of the other girls on the squad whom we know pretty well. Sadly for Wemma fans, Emma does not appear in this season opener at all. She’s MIA completely as is Terri, Ken Tanaka, Burt Hummel and Matt Rutherford (we’re actually hearing that Dijon Talton has left the show).

In the promos, Finn says he wants to join the Cheerios! Why??? -@peigilbert via Twitter
Yeah, that has to do with that aforementioned low point, which the new female football coach is responsible for. She goes by the name of Bieste (rhymes with Feast, it’s apparently French) and she will tussle big time with both Sue and Schue when her new gridiron program cuts into the Cheerios and the glee club’s budget.

Korbs, what did you think of the GLEE premiere? Are we going to like it? -KK
Yeah, I think you will. The highlight for me, no question, was the first meeting between Rachel and Charice’s character, Sunshine. They stumble upon each other in the girls bathroom at school and have a crazy ass sing off that made me laughout loud. Lea Michele delivers the psycho competitive diva thing damn well.

I loved the Empire State of Mind promo for the season premiere of GLEE. Can you tell us any of the other songs they’re doing? -Melissa
Rachel and Sunshine pay tribute to Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s “Telephone” in the bathroom and it’s one of my favorite performances on the show to date. There is also an all boys number, featuring Chord Overstreet — who is sure to be America’s newest heartthrob… not usually into blondes but this kid is sexy — and they’re tackling “Billionaire.” There are also a couple of Broadway numbers, but I’ll leave it at that…

More GLEE questions for me?? Leave them in the comments section below…

Comments Off on The Night Owl – Late Night Lineups

The early bird may get the worm, but the night owl gets all the howls. Check out the stars pulling up some couch on the late night talk shows tonight.

  • LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN : Julianna Margulies, the Black Angels
    • THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO: Chelsea Handler, Ray LaMontagne
      • JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE: Kevin Nealon, Milla Jovovich, Interpol
        • LATE LATE SHOW WITH CRAIG FERGUSON: Jerry O’Connell, Monica Potter
          • LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON: Elijah Wood, Maggie Q, Andy Haynes
            • THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART: Gov. Tim Kaine
              • THE COLBERT REPORT: Vice President Joe Biden, Gen. Raymond Odierno
                • CHELSEA LATELY: Sarah Colonna, T.J. Miller, Dov Davidoff
                  • LOPEZ TONIGHT: Gordon Ramsay, Vienna Girardi, The Miz (R 8/12/10)

While I really dig both Chelsea Handler and Ray LaMontagne, I don’t think I can sit through an entire episode of Leno just to see them.  On the other hand, I’m not sure I could be more excited for The Miz to be on with George Lopez. Ha!  Is The Miz a real wrestler now?  Are we not supposed to remember he’s just Mike from ‘The Real World’? Bizaare!
