Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Wednesday, September 8, 2010

You wait all summer long for the return of the Fall season and then BAM! everything is back..and yet somehow I’m not ready.

Over the next few weeks, new shows and returning favorites will be making their way to your living rooms.  With so many choices, it’s going to be hard to keep track of what to watch.  But that’s where we come in.

Back by popular demand is GIVE ME MY REMOTE’s daily ‘Tonight’s TV Spotlight’ post.  Each morning we’ll highlight some of the shows you might want to watch (or at least DVR) that night.  We won’t be listing every show on TV, so if your favorite isn’t mentioned, be sure to let us know in the comments.  And of course we expect each of you to tell us what YOU are watching (or DVRing) every evening!

With FX and The CW kicking things off early this season, there’s a lot to talk about today…

Big Brother | 8pm on CBS
“Eviction”
The final four become three as another houseguest is evicted from the compound. With Hayden as the HOH, will it be Britney or Lane leaving the competition and the Big Brother house tonight?

America’s Next Top Model | 8pm on The CW | Season Premiere
“Welcome to High Fashion”
The 15th cycle begins with 32 would-be models in Palm Springs, where they attempt to become one of the 14 finalists. The ladies attend a party hosted by designer Cynthia Rowley. The season’s theme is high fashion.

Hellcats | 9pm on The CW | Series Premiere
“A World Full of Strangers”
Marti, a law student, tries out for the university’s legendary cheer squad in hopes of landing a scholarship that will allow her to stay in school.

Top Chef | 10pm on Bravo
“Finale Part I”
The heat’s on in Part 1 of the two-part Season 7 finale when the remaining chefs square off in the penultimate culinary challenge in Singapore.

Terriers | 10pm on FX | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
A crime comedy-drama about two low-rent PIs: a resourceful (if not overly responsible) ex-LAPD detective (Donal Logue) and his best friend (Michael Raymond-James). In the opener, they search for an old friend’s daughter (Kimberly Quinn). The trail quickly leads to a prominent developer.

Psych | 10pm on USA
“One, Maybe Two, Ways Out”
A U.S. Government Spy seeks Shawn and Gus’ help in clearing her name for a crime she supposedly did not commit.

Also playing….

  • Minute to Win It | 8pm on NBC: NFL player Bernard Berrian and cheerleader Ambert Wright finish their game; NFL players Anthony Herrera and Robert Meachem compete for charity.
  • Masterchef | 8pm on Fox: The top six contestants must catch fish to prepare.
  • Dark Blue | 9pm on TBS: The team goes after a home invasion crew with Alex and Carter acting as the bait.

Now it’s your turn. What will YOU be watching tonight?

This might be easy for a few of you, but if you’re like me you might have to take a double take (ok, really it was a triple take) before you are able to guess which small screen star is sporting the hot fatigues.

Don’t cheat…try to guess before you check the comments.

Once again..hot damn!

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: Executive Producer Neal Baer and Henry Ian Cusick Talk Guest Stars, L&O:LA Crossover

September 7, 2010 by
Filed under Law & Order, Law & Order: Los Angeles, SVU, TV News

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT will step outside of its comfort zone in the September 22nd season premiere.

Not only will special guest star Henry Ian Cusick (LOST) be appearing in both episodes of the two-hour premiere, but the show may be toying a bit with a potential romance between his character and Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson.

“There’s a bit of a flirtation, certainly from Erik Weber’s point of view,” says Cusick of his character. “He’s very interested in Benson and I think it becomes a rivalry with Stabler and Weber.”

“We needed someone who was extremely charming, because Benson has had a number of men interested in her over the past 12 years,” executive producer Neal Baer adds. “I said, we need someone who really gets charm and can be a counterpoint to Stabler, in that he is as smart as Stabler. And we immediately thought of [Henry] Ian for that, and I think that’s what’s interesting, particularly in the second episode [of the arc]. We don’t often see someone who can pull Benson in another direction with his own smarts and kind of be a competitor with Stabler and I liked that element of him, too. He’s a strong character…and can stand his own ground.”

So, could the character come back after these first two episodes?

“I think my story has been told,” Cusick says.

But Baer is quick to add, “You never know.”

Hmm.

What we do know?

Man, it feels good to go back to cursing the BACHELOR PAD contestants for their idiotic moves, as opposed to feeling sorry for them.

I mean, those fools are frustratingly short-sighted, no?

THIS IS A GAME, PEOPLE! YOU ARE TRYING TO WIN $250,000!!

Make some good choices!

Ugh, but I digress…

GLEE Fall Preview Offers First Look at Guest Star Charice

Time to get your GLEEk on.

Last night during the Fox Fall Preview, viewers were treated to another amuse-bouche of the new season of GLEE. What tasty delights do we have to look forward to this season?

If we are to believe what we see, it seems that Shue and Sue are uniting together against a new common enemy. Quinn is looking to put on that Cheerios uniform again. Finn will actually go to class (although it’s purely speculation at this point). A new guy has taken over the ‘singing in the locker room shower’ duties from Finn (Kurt’s new boyfriend perhaps?) And Rachel has some new, formidable competition in Sunshine Corazon, played by guest star, Charice. Oh and Uncle Jesse makes an appearance.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE will be on the red carpet with the stars of GLEE tonight a the GLEE Season 2 premiere party in L.A. We’ll be getting as much slushie scoop as we can, but if you’ve got questions for the McKinley High kids, be sure to leave us a comment by 6pm PST tonight.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts…Don’t Miss It – FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Premieres on ABC Family

September 7, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Friday Night Lights, TV News

When people find out that I’m the Editor of a TV blog, I’m inevitability asked to rattle off my list of the best shows on TV. It’s a tough question to answer given that I don’t watch every show on every network. But once I get that caveat out of the way, I emphatically recommend FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Despite a lot of incredible series in contention, FNL is my personal favorite.

This is old news to long time readers of GIVE ME MY REMOTE and listeners of The TV Talk Podcast. For years I’ve been encouraging all of you to tune in, buy the DVDs, and do whatever it takes to get involved in this incredible show. I’ve heard from many of you who have heeded my advice and, as such, can now count FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS as one of your favorite series too.

However, if you are a person who has heard the effusive praise, but hasn’t yet had the chance to tune in to this amazing television show, it is not too late. In fact, you’re just in time.

Starting Tuesday, September 6th, ABC Family will be airing FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS from the very beginning and in order, every weeknight at 6 p.m. EST. Yes, that’s five nights a week that you get to spend time with the people of Dillon, Texas.

As someone who has seen every episode, I can tell you that my DVR is set. I’m so excited to relive the series through this second run.

I implore you to join me, especially if you’ve never seen FNL. I have yet to meet anyone that gave the show a fair shot and didn’t end up loving it. It’s that good!

Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.

Planning on watching FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for the first time on ABC Family? Drop us a line and let us know.  Already a fan but watching again from the beginning?  Chime in too. Maybe you can help me convince those of the fence, just what extraordinary TV they might be missing out on.

CASTLE Season 3 Premiere: You Ask, I Answer

September 3, 2010 by

CASTLE fans were heartbroken last season when Beckett’s plans to confess her feelings for Castle were squashed by his announcement of his reconciliation with his ex-wife, Gina.

I hate when that happens.

After Castle’s summer away with Gina, he finally returns, but have Beckett’s warm and fuzzies faded? Is Castle welcomed back with open arms?

You’re going to have to wait until the season premiere on September 20th at 10pm on ABC, to get all the details, but I can offer you a few (not too spoilery) tidbits to tide you over until then.
