COMMUNITY gets into the holiday spirit with their long-awaited Christmas episode this Thursday. “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas” will follow Abed (Danny Pudi) as he goes on a stop-motion animated quest to find the meaning of Christmas, alongside the likes of Snow Man Chang, Teddy Bear Pierce, and Ballerina Annie.

When it was first announced a few months back that this episode would be purely based in a claymation animated world, I had about 1.5 seconds of skepticism. Then I remembered that this is COMMUNITY, Dan Harmon and his team are brilliant, and that this is probably going to be the highlight of a week already jam-packed with holiday cheer.

These preview and behind-the scenes clips only solidify my feelings on the matter:

The Cast of GLEE Perform on THE X FACTOR

December 5, 2010 by

Talk about international superstars! The cast of GLEE recently performed on Britain’s THE X FACTOR to a standing ovation. The cast sounded fantastic as they killed it with an old but oh so goodie, “Don’t Stop Believin'”. Even Simon Cowell seemed to enjoy it.

Sadly Chris Colfer (Kurt) was unable to join his co-stars in London. He tweeted the reason for his absence, saying: “I won’t be performing on the X-Factor with the other Gleeks! I had to stay and film scenes with the Warblers. Lot’s of cool stuff coming up!“. He also sent a little reminder note to his friends: “I expect my co-stars to bring me back enough “William & Kate” merchandise to fill a small house.” I’m sure they will oblige.”

SMALLVILLE: Luthor

Jumping right back into the swing of things – what did you think of “Luthor”? The name says it all, doesn’t it? And what a way to bring back the dead. I love Lionel Luthor and of course his evil offspring Lex, and now Tess. What a surprising turn of events. I never would have pegged Tess as an heir of the Luthor family tree.

Neither did Clark, who spent most of the episode bashing her newly discovered family name. “Born dangerous, with poisonous blood,” Clark believes in second chances, just not when it comes to his evil arch nemesis. And the thought of becoming one himself? We found it in this episode what Clark’s life would have been if he was discovered by Lionel Luthor in that corn field instead of the Kent’s.

SMALLVILLE’s Lionel Luthor is back!

Well, kind of.

Our Lionel is still dead, but on Earth 2, Lionel Luthor is alive, kicking and, oh yeah, father to Clark.

Give Me My Remote talked with John Glover (the man behind LL, senior) about his return to the show, his new on-screen daughter, what things are like on Earth 2 and if he’ll be back after “Luthor” airs this evening…

COMMUNITY: ‘Mixology Certification’

December 3, 2010 by

This week’s episode is all about the COMMUNITY gang’s avoidance of studying for finals. Also, Troy’s birthday. We get to see the entire crew, gathered around their usual study table in birthday hats! Troy, being a Jehova’s Witness (they don’t believe in celebrating bdays) Jeff and company can’t sing the whole shebang that is the classic “Happy Birthday” song; they only sing the last two words. The icing on Troy’s birthday cake says it all: “Hello during a random desert, the month and day of which coincide numerically with your expulsion from a uterus.” Aw, how sweet! Happy Expulsion, Troy!

GREY’S ANATOMY: ‘Adrift and at Peace’

It’s all about the healing process on this week’s episode of GREY’S ANATOMY. For some of our surgeons, that means doing whatever it takes to heal a patient. Meanwhile, others learn to heal themselves…

If you’re a fistula, you’re gonna want to stay far away from Bailey right now, because she is out to get you. Bailey’s War on the fistulas continues, and now she’s getting some of the residents involved by promising a cool surgery to whomever has the lowest percentage of patients with a certain post-surgical complication (hint: it rhymes with “shmistula”). Lexie, Jackson, and April all have their eyes on the prize and try numerous methods, hoping to find a preventative cure. In the end, the winner is…a nurse named Eli, who’s been there 12 years and has a very common-sense approach to treating patients. Thanks to him, Bailey discovers a way to reduce fistulas by 30%, and as a bonus, gets a date when Eli asks her out! Here’s the deal though, Eli: You’re competing with the recent memory of a little slice of perfection known as Ben. I’m trying to be excited for Bailey here, I really am. But I don’t know. Ben was perfect in every way. Are YOU perfect in every way, Eli? You’re slightly less cute than Ben, IMO, so you’re behind right off the bat. But I’ll give you a chance, for Bailey’s sake. Show me what you’ve got.

FRINGE fans, let’s take a moment to process all that went down in “Entrada.”

How flipping good was that episode?!

Was I the only one who finished the hour, literally shaking?

This is what good television is my friends: making you care. Making you want more. Making you have a physical reaction and then yelling at your screen. (Oh, that last one was just me? Moving on, then.)

So much went down last night, so let’s touch on some of the highlights. Also, keep reading for more from executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman on what’s to come…

Hey BONES fans! After months and months and months of teasing, the Brennan-centric episode we’ve been dying to see is finally set to air next week. You saw the promo, right? Intense.

Since we’re sadly going to have to skip our weekly chat this Friday — don’t worry, we’ll be off getting you scoop — and because many of you had questions about the hour, we’re tackling a few of them now… Read more

BONES: ‘The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck’

December 3, 2010 by

Hello, BONES pals! This episode, like all BONES eps, has given us much to discuss, so I think we’d better just get right to it!

THE CASE:

A man in a truck is blown up, leaving behind what appears to be melted bones. Brennan quickly declares this to be impossible, and while Booth, Cam, Daisy and Hodgins agree, they still can’t quite get over the fact that the bones do indeed appear to be melted. When Hodgins and Daisy figure out that magnesium was used, they have their answer: magnesium combined with fire would result in the crystallization of the bones, giving them the appearance of having melted. With one mystery solved, it’s now up to the team to determine cause of death. Read more

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: The Sacrifice

Stefan: Promise me, whatever happens, you’ll protect her.
Damon: Promise.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is currently living in this magnificent second season bubble of goodness. Even when an episode doesn’t completely knock my socks off, it’s still usually one of the best things about my TV week. Such was the case tonight.

Per usual, a lot was happening with the residents of Mystic Falls and their supernatural friends. Elena and Jeremy both set out on independent suicide missions. Tyler freaked out about the freak he will soon become. Stefan went and got himself locked up in the most inconvenient way. And Bonnie…well, that girl was just flat out dumb. I didn’t think tonight’s episode lived up to the doozies we’ve had this season, but it was still pretty damn good all the same.

FRINGE: Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman on the Move to Fridays and Why New Viewers Should Watch Tonight

December 2, 2010 by

While FRINGE fans have been up in arms about the show’s move to Fridays in January of ’11, executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman insist it’s actually…a good thing?!

“We are excited,” Wyman told reporters on a conference call Wednesday. “We think it’s open territory that could be conquered. We really do believe our fans are loyal and I believe they’re going to follow. It’s a chance for us to get away from that stigma that Fridays are not an opportune night. [We think] that we can actually deliver, like THE X-FILES did. It’s a good opportunity.”

“When Fox informed us of the move, we said what is most important to us: we understand that our audience is watching the show,” Pinkner added. “Not like a standalone audience watches the show, but they’re actually watching it as an investment over time and we wanted to be able to tell our audience that the story, the ongoing, the long-arcing story that we have planned is going to get told as it always has. It’s funny, there are more FRINGE fans in the building at Fox than any show we’ve ever worked on before. And I think we all feel that if we can build a fanbase and carve out some territory on Friday nights, we can be there for years.”

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Thursday, December 2, 2010

I’m especially stoked for TV tonight. Maybe because I get to return to Mystic Falls. Perhaps it’s my newfound obsession with the folks at Greendale Community College. Or is it the possibility of this long, drawn out tale de Christina Yang coming to an end? Okay, it’s probably just that I get to see John Krasinski in my living room this evening.

Regardless, I’m going to be logging some serious TV hours. Bring it, Thursday television. Tonight, I’m your bitch.

Which shows are you going to watch live, DVR for later, or skip altogether?

Here are a few highlights from the lineup…

The Vampire Diaries | 8pm on The CW
“The Sacrifice”

Community | 8pm on NBC
“Mixology Certification”

Bones | 8pm on Fox
“The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck”
Brennan and Booth investigate a crime scene where a human carcass has melted to the dashboard of a charred truck; Sweets tries to keep his feelings for Daisy from interfering while helping her pass a government psychological evaluation. TOP CHEF: ALL STARS Brings Back Big Talent, Big Egos and Some Delicious Eats

I’d like to take a moment to welcome Samantha Simorangkir to Team GMMR. She’s going to be covering TOP CHEF for us this season and we are thrilled to have her on board. No doubt she’s going to fit right in. Welcome! — Kath

The heat is definitely on in the TOP CHEF: ALL STARS kitchen! Loved seeing familiar faces, a few changes (hello, sleek new black chef’s coats!), and an interesting new dynamic. They’ve all been through the process before, and the added theme of redemption is palpable. And the way the producers incorporate the history of the show into new challenges is great fun to watch.

To stir the pot even further, the grand prize has been upped to a cool $200,000. Nice. So the stakes are twice as high, everyone wants to win twice as bad, and they’re all doubly worried about being the first to leave. As Dale L. put it, “I would be very embarrassed to go home first.”

The first quickfire challenge appropriately addresses all the smack talk over which season was the best. Chefs are broken up into teams according to their season, and get the opportunity to put their knife skills where their mouths are. My initial reaction was that those teams with more members have an unfair advantage. But then again, too many cooks…
