SUPERNATURAL Preview: ‘The French Mistake’

While other shows take delight in merely winking at their audience, whether it’s acknowledging an actor’s past work or delivering a message to the fans through dialogue, SUPERNATURAL has never been shy about knocking down that fourth wall and tap dancing all over it. It’s fantastic, really. Some of the best hours of television the show has produced has been their joyously meta episodes.

Tonight’s hour, “The French Mistake,” takes the show’s affection for meta to a whole new level when Sam and Dean are transported to an alternate universe where everyone thinks they are…Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. In that universe they are actors on a show called SUPERNATURAL, which costars the over-tweeting Misha Collins and to Dean’s horror, features multiple versions of the Impala. Much like real life, “Jared” is married to Genevieve Padalecki, who SUPERNATURAL fans remember as Ruby #2. The hour also makes fun of the creative team behind the show and has many nods to the passionate fanbase that has kept this show going for six seasons.

Of course, it’s not all fun and games. There is some serious danger in the episode for several characters…but we have to keep quiet on that for now.
