AMERICAN IDOL Highlights: Pia Toscano Takes On ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ and James Durbin Sings ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’
April 6, 2011 by Sarah Curtis
Rock and roll, AMERICAN IDOL fans! It was the theme for this week, and it’s a lifestyle for three bad-to-the-bone judges! We haven’t talked too much about Randy, J-Lo and Steven lately, so make some noise! Are you fans?
Last week, Naima and Thia were eliminated from the competition, leaving nine contestants still vying to end up in the AMERICAN IDOL Hall of Fame. This week each singer had to pick a song originally sung by a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, or in other words, basically any song he or she wanted to.
We’re getting closer and closer to the part of the season where it seems like anyone could win on any given night. If you had to pick a winner based on this week’s performance, who would it be?
For my money, Pia Toscano was solid, proving she has what it takes to belt out more than just ballads. The judges loved her, the audience loved her, and she hit all the right notes with her take on “River Deep, Mountain High.”

For my guy pick of the week, I’m going to go with James Durbin, whose soulful rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” really worked for me, dawg!

Enough from me, though there’s still plenty to talk about! That’s where you come in. Comments are open!

I don’t get the love for Pia. she’s boring. She was screaming during that song too. During is a bad Adam Lambert wanna be.
I miss Simon. We have had karaoke percormances, poor song choice, etc. It’s boring. You barely remember by the end of the show who sang what.
For me, I love Casey. Very unpredictable and really has grown the last two weeks. The toned down version is nice. I’m just not sure what you do with a guy like this after the competition.
Paul did well tonight. He reminds me of a few people on the radio and I think there is a place for him in the business. Paul knows who he is and that’s a good thing.
The two country singers should do okay with the right management. If a few former contestants can make it in county music…. ie Josh Gracin, then they can do it.
To me you need to know you voice and what your voice can do to win American Idol. There are 9 lovely voices on the show, at least we aren’t listening to any bad singers this year. They are getting much more help this season to make sure the performances are decent for tv. I just don’t.see that X factor in most of them. I don’t want to go back and here the performance again. In the past I would love to hear some songs over and over again. It’s boring!
