AMERICAN IDOL Highlights: Scotty Sings ‘Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)’ and Haley Performs ‘I Who Have Nothing’
May 11, 2011 by Sarah Curtis
Hey, hey, AMERICAN IDOL fans!
It’s getting down to the wire, and while Fox itself has been making cuts left and right this week, we already know that tomorrow, this quartet of IDOL hopefuls will be down to three.
Each singer had to choose one song that inspired him or her. But the real question is…were you inspired? Based on tonight’s Lady Gaga-coached performances, who is in your top three spots?
Are you liking James, who brought his usual style with popular songs “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Love Potion No.9”?
Or how about Lauren, whose cute charm might just allow her to win the whole thing? Her rendition of Martina McBride’s “Anyway” was good, right? But how about “Trouble”? Will it put her in the bottom two or the top two?
Perhaps you are a Scotty fan? I’ll never buy an album of his, but this kid is going to make millions. HE’S 16! I didn’t care for his second song, but his inspiring “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” made him the round one winner!

Are you on Team Haley? The judges didn’t care for her first performance of “Earth Song,” but loved her second song, “I Who Have Nothing,” and I agreed. It was passionate and lovely at the same time.

Do you agree? Did you vote?

The judges have been unfairly harsh on Haley these past few weeks. While she’s not flawless, them heaping praises on every other contestant and being then downright nasty with Haley is maddening. There’s no way James was better than her this week, whom they said “won” round one even before anyone else had sung! And while I agree with you Scotty is going to sell a ton of records, at this point in the competition, he should be enunciating his lyrics better. I couldn’t understand half of his second song! I’m indifferent toward Lauren at this point, but I still think she has enough of a fanbase to – and I know I may be premature with this – win the whole thing. I just hope Haley doesn’t go home tomorrow (and now I hope I haven’t jinxed it!)!
The only judge i thought was a “little” harsh with Haley was Randy, but honestly its like dealing with a petulant child with her sometimes, she immediately gets the “I’m angry” look on her face at even the slightest bit of constructive criticism. To be in this business she needs to be able to take what is said to her good or bad and she isn’t, which is bad, because she does have one of the best voices left in the competition and she has grown by leaps and bounds in performance.
