GREY’S ANATOMY Recap: ‘White Wedding’

And the countdown continues! Only two episodes left in the season after this week’s semi-chaotic episode of GREY’S ANATOMY. The writers must have suddenly realized there’s not much time left before the finale, because between last week’s episode and this one it feels like we’ve been moving at warp speed.

For example: Callie, who at the beginning of last week’s episode could barely move, is now cheerfully bouncing around planning her wedding to Arizona. Both sets of parents are in town, which would be difficult enough without Callie’s mom acting like a passive aggressive twit – doing the bare minimum in helping prepare for the wedding, giving silent judgmental stares, and even finding excuses not to touch the baby. When Callie confronts her, Mama Torres responds that she simply can’t support Callie having a lesbian wedding and a child out of wedlock. She refuses to attend the ceremony, creating an awkward position for Callie’s dad, who’s come a long way since his anti-gay stance of a couple seasons ago. At Callie’s urging, he reluctantly leaves as well. Callie almost calls off the whole wedding until Bailey (whose role lately seems to be to disappear for most of the episode then step in with an inspiring speech) saves the day with some of her usual wise words. Meanwhile Arizona has a minor meltdown because her dead brother won’t be dancing at the wedding like they used to imagine and holy crap this has officially become the most depressing wedding EVER. Somehow everyone stops crying long enough to get through the ceremony, and Callie’s dad even shows up at the reception to dance with his daughter. Yay, happy ending…sort of. Callie’s mom still sucks.

BONES Recap: ‘The Signs in the Silence’

Hey, BONES pals! How did you like this episode? I really liked it. I think it’s my favorite episode of the season, and I say that because, in my opinion, it was actually an episode of BONES. I have liked other eps this year, but for non-episode reasons, if that makes sense. A big Brennan moment, an intense Booth revelation here and there, etc. are very memorable. But in “The Signs in the Silence,” the case was intriguing, the squints were squinty, and Booth and Brennan were professional and personal. All of that combined makes for a terrific episode. Let’s get to it!

The Scene of the Crime: A police officer is patrolling his area, when he spots a body near an alley. When he investigates, he sees a lot of blood, but when he gets even closer, the body’s eyes open and it’s a girl, wielding a knife in his direction. Most BONES eps open with the dead body; beginning this one with the killer was a fresh take, in my opinion.

BONES Promo: Are Booth and Brennan Crossing a Line?

May 5, 2011 by

If you watched tonight’s episode of BONES, you likely saw the super revealing promo for the penultimate episode of the season, “The Hole in the Heart,” which airs next Thursday. If you didn’t and you want to stay spoiler free, avert your eyes now!

If you did see it…wowza. 31 seconds isn’t a lot of time, but they managed to squeeze in laughs, drama and oh, yeah, Booth and Brennan falling into bed together (in a potentially platonic manner).

COMMUNITY Preview: ‘A Fist Full of Paintballs’

May 5, 2011 by

Guys, are you ready? This week COMMUNITY’s Greendale Community College is venturing back into the world of paintball for the first of the show’s two-part season finale, and I smell a classic.

Don’t believe me? Here’s what we know about the hour so far:

  • Dean Pelton decides to cap off the year with another game of Paintball Assassin, apparently having forgotten the events of last year’s game. The reward this year? Quite the hefty cash prize.
  • It guest stars LOST’s Josh Halloway, as a mysterious character named “The Black Rider” who enters into the game with plans to shake things up for our scrappy band of study groupers.
  • Unlike last year’s paintball-themed episode — which paid homage to action and apocalypse movies — this year’s episode is an homage to the western genre, so look forward to some Clint Eastwood jokes.
  • According to Joel McHale, “there is more paint spilled in this than in ‘Modern Warfare,’ by a mile.”
  • Jeff is wanted, “Gay and Alive,” for a bounty
  • It. Is. Going. To. Be. EPIC.

Check out these behind-the-scenes features and preview clips of the episode:

BONES Debate Part 2: Can Our Minds Be Changed on the Booth-Brennan Relationship?

May 5, 2011 by

Last week, we did something a little bit different to lead up to the BONES episode, “The Pinocchio in the Planter”: our fabulous BONES recapper Sarah Curtis and I indulged in our own brand of radical honesty while debating where we wanted the Booth and Brennan relationship to go. Today we’re going to finish up our debate on the topic (for now) and hash out whether there is anything that would change our views.

Before we restart our debate, a reminder of the groundwork we laid last week to prevent panic/frustration. First of all, what we’re saying below has absolutely nothing to do with any spoilers for the rest of the season. This isn’t about what WILL happen, this is about what we WANT to happen. And for the purpose of this discussion, while Brennan and Booth ARE together in many ways, together equals the intention or actions of being in a romantic relationship. No more defending their relationship as just partners. There would need to be an acknowledgment that there is more than friendship between them and they are going to be acting on it in the immediate future. It doesn’t mean they need to jump into bed, but together = no more significant others, they are committed to each other in whatever way they deem appropriate given their unconventional courtship thus far.

All good? Let’s continue our debate…

Anyone else still reeling from last week’s NIKITA?  What an ending! (And if you haven’t watched the episode, go now!)

So with a show so twist-y, what has surprised series star Shane West (Michael)? I asked him to pinpoint some of those moments when he recently talked with reporters. And while West acknowledged the last two episodes of the season have some big shockers, there were a few things he could talk about…

Comments Off on MODERN FAMILY Recap: ‘Mother’s Day’

Thank you, MODERN FAMILY, for airing a Mother’s Day episode because I had completely forgotten it’s this Sunday (for real)! And now I know exactly what I’m not getting my mom — a hiking trip!

Yes, Claire decides it’s a good idea for her and Gloria to go hiking with the kids. How did she think that was going to end, with rainbows and butterflies for all? No, none of those kids like hiking and I don’t blame them. I probably would have been complaining the whole time, too, about being hot and the imminent threat of coyotes (because if there’s one thing to worry about in my part of Texas, it’s coyotes. Okay, not really — our equivalent is alligators).

John Stamos guest stars on tonight’s brand new episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT as a charming, yet manipulative man who may be a bit too baby crazy.

“John plays a very wealthy venture capitalist who is more than happy to help Benson and Stabler do the investigation,” SVU executive producer Neal Baer told reporters on a conference call earlier this week. “It turns out that he’s tied to the baby [discovered] at the beginning [of the episode] because he was having a thing with the baby’s nanny and the baby disappeared while he was in bed with the nanny.”

In case you thought BREAKING IN couldn’t get nerdier, you were wrong — tonight’s episode takes the gang to Comic-Con!

So why is Contra Security hitting up a comic book convention? The team is tasked with protecting footage from THE GOONIES sequel…only they can’t quite manage to keep track of it. And really, would you want to be responsible for inducing a fan riot?

I hit up the set of BREAKING IN for the filming of this episode and talked with series star Odette Annable (Melanie) about filming the episode (in costume!), playing Melanie and the Cameron-Melanie-Dutch triangle (with a special cameo from Michael Rosenbaum)…
