FRINGE: Anna Torv and John Noble Talk Peter’s Disappearance and Season 4
June 3, 2011 by Marisa Roffman
Can you believe it’s only been four weeks since FRINGE had its third season finale?
And if you think you had questions after viewing the hour, imagine how the actors feel trying to process all the places next season could conceivably go.
When I caught up with FRINGE stars Anna Torv (Olivia) and John Noble (Walter) at the Paley Center event honoring their show, they shared their initial reaction to the third season cliffhanger, where they think Peter is, what his absence means for them and more…

The first four weeks without a new Fringe have been a killer. And it’s going to be even longer, argh. I want Fringe now. I do watch my DVDs over and over and have taped season 3 but still, I cannot wait for season 4 to start. It’s kinda funny that they themselves really don’t know either, makes it even more interesting. Anyway, is it September yet?
And Happy Birthday Anna!
No I don’t know the exact day but I know it’s June 🙂
You need a better camera! Thanks for the clip though. I look forward to seeing more of them.
God, they’re so fucking Australian it hurts.
Look at Peter’s shadow in the cast photo!
Well-l-l-l ! My wife and I were floored to say the least!
WTH? Where are they going now! Our cynical reaction was that “Peter” had a case of the “Goldie Hahn’s” and asked for more money and got written out!
Glad to hear he will be around in some fashion or another! An Observer with hair!
I don’t like Peter’s disappearing or being forgotten , this will mean that the well deserved love Anna finally enjoyed with him is wiped out and needs to be rebuilt, conditioned by the presence of her doppleganger Fauxlivia, whom I totally dislike. Olivia is a loyal and caring person, she is totally unlike Fauxlivia who betrayed her boy friend and stole someone’s else.
I need to see season 4 bringing Olivia and Peter together, no matter what role Peter will be playing.
I must say that I was not at all amused with Peter’s disappearance. I can’t really imagine Fringe without him! Bring him back, he and Olivia are finally sorting things out!!!!
No offense Theresa, but there is MORE to peter than being Olivia’s boyfriend. Not sure why are you more concerned with how OLIVIA feels when its PETER who doesn’t exist and HE will be the one who has to start over.
I agree with Cortexiphan (love the name!)… Is it September yet!? I think that this is a chance for the writers to really make this show the DO NOT MISS show that we all know it is.
Peter as an observer…. could be interesting!
I only know that you need bring Peter back!! Otherwise nothing of this make sense! Please, bring Peter back…
It’s interesting..yes… but i’m not totaly enjoyed in this final episode of Fringe.
Simply..without any of them (including Peter),Fringe is imposible!
Да, в России тоже обожают Fringe, и мы с нетерпением ждем продолжения!)))
AND what about faux Olivia’s baby by Peter, what happens to that baby? If Peter never existed how did the baby come to be OR will the baby become PETER???!!!
Hee Hee
My guess is that Peter thinks he’s back home, but he’s not. I think that he’s still in the machine, but now he’s looking at another possibility. When he was in the machine I think he thought about his decision and, deep inside, chose our Olivia, then the machine showed him the consequences of destroying the other universe. Now, when he, still connected to the machine, sees Olivia alive he decided not to destroy any of the universes, but to reunite them instead. So the machine is actually showing him what would happen if that was his decision. I say that because after doing that, when he got out of the machine he acts as they could see him, but my guess is that they can’t, Walter is neither looking nor talking to him, and so isn’t Olivia (she would have kissed him, hugged him as soon as he got out of the machine) I think that the machine will only fulfill its purpose if Peter, experiencing the consequences, want them deep inside…I mean…that’s when he’s really gonna back home, having successfully accomplished his mission.
I’d like to say that I’m a great great fan of the X-files, and I really love Scully and Mulder forever! That was and will be my favorite scifi, and after it was over I swore I’d never ever watch another scifi…but then I met fringe and that promise seemed pretty foolish. The stories are great, they make us think and thrill with the so many possibilities they show….and the couple…oh they feel great together….makes me miss Scully and Mulder…of course that Peter has his story and his character is not only about giving Olivia a sexual life or making her happier, but we just can’t avoid praying that they will stick together, because they are great characters, but they are so much better when they are together… not only Peter, but Olivia too. Just like Scully in x-files when Mulder was abducted….she was doing great…I mean, the character could perfectly carry the show, but we felt that there was something missing…that “after testing strawberry with chocolate, having it without chocolate, although good, may not be enough”…
