GLEE’s Darren Criss Heading to Broadway?
July 21, 2011 by Kath Skerry
Is it too early to get line for tickets now?
According to a report from Deadline Hollywood, GLEE star Darren Criss is rumored to make his Broadway debut replacing Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role of the hit Broadway show How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying when Radcliffe’s run ends towards the end of the year.
Now it seems the deal isn’t set just yet, but sources say talks are already underway for Darren to star in the show for three weeks (plus two weeks of rehearsals). Before it’s a done deal, they need the ok from GLEE creator Ryan Murphy.
So what does this mean for Blaine Anderson?
Well, the gig would mean Darren/Blaine would be missing from an episode and a half of GLEE. Other GLEE series regulars (a group to which Criss was recently added) have been absent from an episode here or there, so I suppose it’s not that big of a deal. Except of course if you are a complete Kurt and Blaine nut (like yours truly) and you want those two to share as much screen time as possible for Chris Colfer exists the show for good at the end of next season. (No word yet as to whether or not Blaine will graduate alongside his boyfriend, Kurt, or will remain on GLEE for another season.)
The news of Darren replacing Dan will surely be met with a sly smile from Darren’s long time fans who first got to know the actor when he portrayed Harry Potter in the viral cult hits “A Very Potter Musical” and “A Very Potter Sequel” (both of which are “totally awesome” so you should check them out right now).
Whether these rumors come to be or not, there is no denying what an amazing, breakout year this has been for Darren Criss. The GLEE Warblers CD topped the charts and their version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” was certified gold just last week. And if you were lucky enough to attend the GLEE Live tour this summer then you know that Darren Criss emerged as perhaps the biggest star on that talented-filled stage garnering ear-splitting screams from his female fans. Those same screams were heard in his sold out solo shows in NYC and London.
In addition to his turn on GLEE, Darren wrote the music for “Starship” the latest musical hit from his theatre company, Starkid.
As for Darren’s biggest distinction of the year? Well, he stands alone at the top of my TV boyfriend list. Quite an accomplishment if you ask me.
If the rumors turn out to be true, will you go see Darren on Broadway? If so…see you there!

I just about peed myself with excitement over this! I would definitely buy tickets for that – and travel from Houston to see it! If this isn’t true, at least people think highly enough to DCriss to rumor this!
