WEB THERAPY Preview

July 19, 2011 by

Lisa Kudrow returns to television in Tuesday’s premiere of WEB THERAPY, a new Showtime comedy based on her popular web series.

Kudrow plays Dr. Fiona Wallice, a therapist who created three-minute sessions because the 50-minute blocks are too boring. Through the series, we get an insight into her twisted marriage — her husband, Kip, is played by former ALIAS star Victor Garber — and her array of highly dysfunctional clients. (If you’re going to doctor as, um, unique as Fiona, clearly you have your own set of issues.)

Personally, I adored the pilot. It’s quirky without being over-the-top, something that is often hard to achieve. And the promise of great comedic guest stars (Jane Lynch! Courteney Cox! Rashida Jones!) as upcoming clients is making the wait for additional episodes a little bit hard to bear.

Check out some previews of the first season!

WAREHOUSE 13: ‘Trials’ Recap

July 19, 2011 by

Over the years, WAREHOUSE 13 has gotten a lot of praise for being the kind of show a family can watch together, and season three is shaping up in the same way. A large portion of that is a result of the writers and actors and showrunners PURPOSEFULLY relying on family elements and experiences for their characters. Sure, not everything in the warehouse is “happy” this season, but isn’t that what a family is like too? When someone leaves — for whatever reason — the dynamic changes. Myka is learning that as she reintegrates herself back with the other warehouse agents. When someone new joins a family — for whatever reason — the dynamic changes again, and Steve Jinks is finding himself a catalyst for change. And I like it. I like the new and slightly edgy push-pull between Pete and Myka, and even if it doesn’t end with romance (like we sort of talked about last week), it will end with some good character development and that is never bad. Eddie McClintock (Pete) and Joanne Kelly (Myka) were pitch perfect with their subtlety in this episode, proving they still have what it takes to keep a show on the air.

On Monday’s episode of THE BACHELORETTE, Ashley traveled with the four remaining men to their hometowns to meet their families.

Was anyone else a little bit, um, bored by the episode? Nothing seemed too crazy…there weren’t any funeral home tours or stuffed dead animals. Rather tame home visits with fairly sane people.

THE GLEE PROJECT: ‘Pairability’

Sunday marked the return of Darren Criss as a guest mentor on THE GLEE PROJECT, so you know I liked it from the very beginning.  The theme was “pairabilty” and I’m glad Darren pointed out this challenge would require some acting on the contestants’ parts because that’s something we haven’t seen them do a lot of – we know they can sing and we know some of them can dance, now it’s time to act!

I actually thought this was one of the best episodes of THE GLEE PROJECT yet. We got to see different sides to many of the contestants, whether good or bad, and solidified why my favorites are my favorites and why I want certain contestants to just go home.

It wasn’t a perfect episode, though.  Here’s the good and the bad of “Pairability” (which, like Darren said, isn’t actually a word)…
