SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Marko and Tadd Talk Being Finalists, Their Bromance and Dancing Together
August 10, 2011 by Marisa Roffman
As crazy as it is to believe, it’s already SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finale time!
And as bittersweet as this time tends to be, there’s no denying the pure talent the final four dancers have. In fact, I’d argue this is the most talented group of finalists ever.
But that’s not the only noteworthy thing about the season.
“It’s crazy, because I think this is the first season they’ve had two Asian guys in the final four,” SYTYCD finalist Tadd Gadduang told me at the recent Fox TCA party.
“The good thing about it is we’re roommates,” fellow finalist Marko Germar added. “We’re trying to keep each other sane.”
As it turns out, these two have been forming a bond for months.
“It’s cool, because we’ve been rooming with each other since day one,” Tadd explained. “We’ve been a really good support system, because Marko’s parents live all the way in Guam, and my parents are scattered, too.”
“We really just have each other,” Marko said. “Every day we talk to each other and we go through it.”
And in case you’re getting the wrong idea, don’t mistake their friendship for anything, um, else.
“People mistake our bromance for a love thing,” Tadd laughed. “No. It’s a brothership! It’s brotherly love.”
Got that, guys? They’re strictly friends. But with that being said, the duo will be taking a brand new step in their relationship during Wednesday night’s performance finale.
“Tadd and I haven’t had a chance to dance with each other yet, so people are going to see us dance with each other,” Marko said.
“And to keep people on the edge of their seats, the style we’ve got is pretty interesting,” Tadd teased.
When I joked that it would be fun to see the duo tackle ballet together, they told me they were hoping for ballroom. But is that the style they will perform?
“You never know, there is such a thing of two male ballroom [dancers],” Marko said.
While I was interviewing the two dancers, BONES star Michaela Conlin (Angela) passed by us and got super excited to see the guys. I asked Marko and Tadd if it felt surreal to be at an event like that, where they were surrounded by television stars, and they admitted it was.
“We’re just sitting in the corner….we’re kind of star struck right now,” Marko admitted. “We’re seeing some of the actors reacting to us the way we’re reacting to them. They’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, you guys are here, I’m such a fan!’ and we’re like, ‘We’re a fan!'”
“We’re like, ‘We watch you on TV!'” Tadd added.
They’ve certainly come a long way from when we first talked at the beginning of the season!
What kind of dance are you hoping Marko and Tadd do?
