SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Melanie and Sasha Talk the Finale, Reuniting with the Top 20 and More

We’re mere hours away from the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE finale!

And while you may have already read our chat with Marko and Tadd (if you didn’t, what are you waiting for?!), now it’s time for the girls to have their say about making it into the final four.

“It’s really exciting!” Melanie said of making it into the finale.

“I didn’t even expect to get on the show,” Sasha admitted. “I just came into this with an open mind and it’s still an honor to compete every week. Every single week, it’s always a shock because anything can happen, really.”

Despite their status as frontrunners for most of the competition, the dancers say they didn’t view themselves that way.

“I definitely think each week, the top four have taken on as a new challenge, not looking back on what happened the last week, sort of pushing forward,” Melanie noted. “So getting to go forward and go to a brand new week each time is amazing. And being on stage and being called to the final four is…it was the greatest feeling of joy. And then you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I have seven dances to learn!’ It’s crazy!”

There may have been panic, but the dancers revealed what has them really excited about the finale week: reuniting with the top 20 contestants who had been voted off!

“It was so much fun [reuniting with the top 20]” Sasha said. “All of the memories that we shared together? It was so much fun having everyone back together. We literally drove up [to where we rehearsed] and we couldn’t even wait until the car stopped.”

“We started screaming,” Melanie interjected.

“We jumped out of the car,” Sasha added. “I got in trouble for jumping out of the car. I couldn’t wait.”

But as they indulged their nostalgia with their visit to old friends, Wednesday’s finale show has also given the dancers a chance to reflect on how far they’ve come.

“I learned that I’m a lot better than I thought I was,” Sasha said. “I learned a lot. I had never done all of this stuff, I had never done quickstep, I had never done ballroom. I learned my body could handle a lot more than I thought I could.”

“I learned that I’m a lot more resilient than I thought I was,” Melanie admitted. “I thought that I would maybe crack under the pressure or anything like that. But I think all of us have done a good job of staying really humble. I’m really proud of all the people that have been here.”
