Brandy Talks MAJORS & MINORS

In case science-fiction isn’t really your thing, there aren’t a whole lot of options for you to watch on television Friday nights. The good news is The Hub is trying to help you out.

Tonight at 8 PM, their new music competition series MAJORS & MINORS debuts — but before you lament yet another reality competition show, this one is a bit different.

M&M follows 12 young performers (ages 10-16), who are mentored by some of the biggest names in music to try and win the grand prize of a recording deal with RCA/Jive and the chance to appear in a cross-country tour. Unlike other singing competitions, no one is voted off each week, which is a bit of a relief. (Who wants to see devastated children every week?!)

Given the sheer number of musical reality shows on the air, when Brand — who is one of the featured mentors — participated in a conference call earlier this week, I asked her what surprised her the most about being involved with MAJORS & MINORS.

“Well, when I got involved, I wanted to of course be a mentor and give the type of advice that could help further these artists along,” Brandy told me on the call. “But when I got there I think I was more moved and more inspired than they were because each artist there was just mind-blowing. I was crying every other 5 minutes because they know exactly who they are and they are all different and unique in their own way. And it was just exciting to see it. It reminded me of when I was fifteen trying to become a star. So I could relate to them and I saw myself in each one of them and it was just an amazing experience.”
