THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: ‘The End of the Affair’ Teases

The phrase “game-changing” is incredibly overused when talking about big television episodes, but there is no denying tonight’s excellent episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, “The End of the Affair” is relationship-changing for more than one duo.

“Tonight, we get to learn some old, old secrets and return to play with some old friends/foes,” executive producer Julie Plec teased to a group of reporters earlier this week.

So what can I tell you without spoiling the hour?

• Stefan and Klaus spend some time in present-day Chicago, plus, we also get a glimpse into Stefan’s wild past during the 1920s. (And while I adore the show we have now, I wish we could clone Paul Wesley (Stefan) so we could explore more of his time in the 20s…they seemed pretty awesome.)
• Damon and Elena get a tip on Stefan’s whereabouts that leads them to the Windy City, but what they find might not be what they were hoping to encounter.
• The Stefan and Elena/Elena and Damon relationships aren’t the only ones that will be undoubtedly changed by “The End of the Affair.”
• Poor Caroline. As you may have expected, her reunion with daddy isn’t pleasant, as he has a very specific idea of how his daughter should act…which directly contradicts with how she needs to live her life.
• Bonnie is still MIA and Jeremy’s ghost cliffhanger isn’t touched upon in the hour.
• There is an aspect to the hour that has me itching to crack out the season 2 DVDs. I want to rewatch a storyline to see how/if this new knowledge colors my interpretation of what I previously watched. (I know. Vague. But trust me, you don’t want this to be ruined.)
