About Last Night…ONCE UPON A TIME, DEXTER, THE WALKING DEAD and More
October 24, 2011 by Marisa Roffman
Sunday night TV is so good! And now, with the addition of my favorite new series, ONCE UPON A TIME, things have gotten even better. (You guys watched it, right?!)
Let’s talk TV!
Now that you’ve all seen ONCE UPON A TIME, do you see why I’ve been raving about it for months? No other show on TV is quite as magically charming and I’m already in love. Snow White and Prince Charming? Amazing. And equally heartbreaking to see them separated in Storybrooke. (LOST fans, how many Easter eggs did you find winking to the show in the OUAT pilot?)
Before last week’s episode of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, James Denton teased there was a Carlos and Mike scene he was really excited for fans to see. We got it in Sunday’s hour, and I understand why he enjoyed it so much. I know the show is about the women, but I do miss when the men would all hang out together. Because of the ways the various relationships have changed in the past few years, it makes sense we’re not getting those kinds of scenes, but I do hope before the series ends in May we get another scene or two with Tom, Mike and Carlos together. And on a completely different subject, are we taking bets on how long it will take for Bree and Ben to become interested in each other?
As much as I absolutely adore DEXTER, I had felt a big disconnect to the season until “A Horse of a Different Color.” The stories about Dexter and his personal life were fine, and I didn’t overly object to Deb’s promotion, but as much as I love Edward James Olmos, the “big bad” storyline did absolutely nothing for me. Now? I’m finally intrigued. Hopefully now that Miami Metro has their eyes on the baddies, things will pick up.
PAN AM is still very pretty and the additions of Goran Visnjic and Erin Cummings certainly helped my interest in the episode, but the series continues to not click for me. At this rate, they probably have another week to hook me before I leave.
Over THE WALKING DEAD‘s break, I read eight volumes of the graphic novel, and my primary concern — and part of the reason why I took a breather from them — was that I would ruin the show for myself. So far, I’m not having that problem, which I’m thankful for, though I am certainly looking at these new characters and wondering how much of the graphic novel will end up playing itself out on the show.
My little pet peeve from the hour? Why didn’t Shane volunteer to get Lori immediately after Rick started getting agitated that Carl’s mother wasn’t there to be with them since her kid could be dying? Instead, a stranger had to break the news to her. I’m sorry, but no matter how bad things are between Shane and Lori, you’d think he would be the best option, especially since the group almost didn’t trust the news coming from someone they didn’t know.
I’m incredibly jealous of everyone who got the chance to watch last night’s episode of HOMELAND. Showtime wasn’t able to send out screeners for the hour and I don’t have the channel, so I haven’t seen it yet. I know, poor little reporter girl. But I do hope you guys watched/enjoyed the hour.
So tell me, what did you guys watch?

Normally my TV watching during weekends is reserved for sports only, but wow, I LOVED Once Upon A Time! I watched it instead of the beginning of the World Series game (and my team is actually playing in it) and don’t regret the decision at all. I can’t wait to see how the stories unfold and how everyone is connected in Storybrooke. I definitely want to learn more about this town, and I hope we get the chance to see them really flesh out all the characters. By far, my favorite new show I’ve seen this season.
@Cori: SO glad to hear that. Whenever I get super passionate about a show, I always worry I will be the only one who really cares. So I’m incredibly thrilled to hear you’re loving the show, too!
I’m loving Pan Am!
LOVED “Once Upon a Time”…LOVED it!
And my not being able to quit P”an Am” was rewarded last night with “sexy foreign doctor” from “ER” and “Wolf” from “10th Kingdom”. (Why yes, I could have used a more recent Scott Cohen project like “Necessary Roughness” or a classic one like “Gilmore Girls” but I thought that was the most appropriate one given it’s relation to the “OUAT” premiere! ) 😉
