About Last Night…NIKITA, SUPERNATURAL, CHUCK and More

October 29, 2011 by

Fox may have been busy with the World Series (which then prompted CBS to swap their new scheduled episodes for reruns), but somehow Friday night television was still crazy.

So let’s talk about what went down…

When Shane West (Michael) told me that Friday’s episode of NIKITA could be a season finale, I didn’t expect it to be quite as explosive as it ended up being. Holy smokes. Seriously, when did this show get this good? And given the bombshell Nikita dropped on Michael after they survived the latest attack on their lives — that he and Cassandra have a son — I’m anxious to see where the duo will go from there, especially since they are on the run and really only have each other right now.

I loved getting to see Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Jared Padalecki (Sam) play “double” versions of their characters (or “Dean-adjacent” as non-Dean quipped) on SUPERNATURAL. While we saw the doubles cause a lot of damage, perhaps the biggest thing Dean-adjacent did was tell Sam that his brother killed Amy. That upset Sam enough that he told Dean they should split up. Hm…that might have been a bit more suspenseful if the promo immediately afterward hadn’t shown the brothers working another case together. Oh well.

How adorable was the CHUCK premiere? I love that the show made the transition of Chuck and Sarah being married so seamless, all while maintaining what made us root for them to begin with. And the good thing about the writers finally knowing that they don’t have to wait until the last moment for a renewal or cancellation is that we’re getting a clear “final season” arc. Let’s hope the series can go out as strong as possible.

I’m incredibly curious to hear what you guys thought about GRIMM. I rewatched the pilot last night in the hopes of enjoying it more than my initial viewing, but I found my main problem was still there: I don’t feel the show knows what it wants to be. It’s dark, but it’s cheesy. It’s a procedural, but it’s not. I have no problem with quirky, hybrid shows (in fact, I tend to embrace them), but it feels like the show isn’t sure of itself. Yes, it’s just a pilot and those can be rough, but NBC has also made the (possible) mistake of putting it up against SUPERNATURAL and FRINGE, which also air Fridays at 9. Both shows already have devoted genre viewers, and how much patience will fans have to stick around with a mediocre series if two others shows are consistently knocking it out of the park on other networks?

Nikita was awesome last night! It totally could have been a season finale! I wanted to cry seeing the look on Michael’s face after he found out what Nikita was keeping from him. Cannot wait to see if Michael will leave Nikita to go see his son. Part of me hopes he does but part of me doesn’t want too. Nikita meant well. Can’t wait for the next episode!!

Absolutely loved last Friday’s Nikita. Actually, this season has been SO good so far. I’m really glad Nikita told Michael about his son, and the Cleaner is still alive, why am I not surprised? (And his glasses were intact!) I’m spoiler free so I had no idea about what was coming and I have to agree with Shane West, it was a season finale material. I can’t wait for what’s to come in every aspect of the show.

It’s crazy how I like the new Nikita more than the original La Femme Nikita series.. Michael has to put his family first ! and Supernatural just continues to entertain 🙂
