About Last Night…THE X FACTOR, UNFORGETTABLE and DANCING WITH THE STARS

With THE X FACTOR on Tuesday, was I the only one who had their entire night thrown off thanks to the two-hour live show? It makes no sense, since I generally watch all of Fox’s programming Tuesday night, anyway, but those X FACTOR performance shows seem to take up the entire night.

But there was more than singing on television last night, so let’s talk about what went down…

THE X FACTOR was super schmaltzy last night (with a theme like “thanks,” it’s bound to happen), but what annoyed me about the hour was LA Reid’s ridiculous comments to Drew. She isn’t my absolute favorite contestant and I have no issues with him personally, but his notion that “Skyscraper” was a song too adult for Drew and a terrible choice by her mentor (Simon) was mind-numbingly bizarre. First of all, it’s by Demi Lovato, a freaking teen star, so while Drew may be a few years younger than her, it makes sense why she’d be drawn to it. (It’s also a recent hit, so how he doesn’t know this is beyond me. I don’t care for Demi’s music — sorry — but even I knew it and I don’t work in this business.) And further more, Drew had JUST SAID IN HER PRE-SONG INTERVIEW THAT SHE CHOSE THE SONG BECAUSE IT MEANT SOMETHING TO HER AND HER BEST FRIEND. If LA wasn’t in the room for that, that’s on him, but if he’s going to make false statements, he should at least be sure of it.

UNFORGETTABLE investigated an interesting case — a murder at an active crime scene (with a victim named Marisa, which always makes me do a double-take) — but what really made me pause last night was Carrie’s return to gambling. We obviously saw her do that in the pilot (before she was back on the job), but given people now know she was there before the raid, what is this going to mean for her? Obviously she said she was playing cards to pay for her mother’s health bills, but it seems like this has to come up again, especially now that Al covered for her, right?

I don’t watch DANCING WITH THE STARS, but I couldn’t be happier that JR Martinez won. He was inspiring during his time on ALL MY CHILDREN, and I’m so glad more people are getting to “meet” this fantastic man.
