About Last Night…GLEE, RAISING HOPE and UNFORGETTABLE
December 14, 2011 by Marisa Roffman
One Tuesday night television show made me rage-y. Another was so utterly charming it may have hurt. And then Carrie came and solved crimes. Ah, TV.
So let’s talk about what went down last night…
Look, I have affection for GLEE, which means I don’t particularly like harping on what a hot mess I feel the show is right now. With that being said…are you freaking kidding me? Kath (and her alter ego, Kathleen) touched on many of my GLEE problems in her recap last night, but one of the things that irked me the most was the writers ignoring that multiple characters on their show are Jewish. I’m not asking for them to bust out in Hanukkah songs (though given that they’ve had two Christmas themed episodes, it wouldn’t be asking a lot), but in what world would Rachel be requesting CHRISTMAS presents?! She’s Jewish. It’s not something to be ashamed of. It’s not something that requires a huge amount of storyline. But given it was so important for her (and Puck!) in the past, it’s lazy inconsistencies like that (which are so easily preventable) that often makes watching this show infuriating.
On the opposite end of the spectrum was RAISING HOPE. Whether it was mocking Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson or getting meta while lamenting not too many people would want to see the story of baby Hope (at least not in the young demo), the series had me genuinely laughing out loud several times during their Christmas episode. Won’t more of you try out this lovely show this season?
Carrie is no longer wearing tank tops on UNFORGETTABLE! I actually really enjoyed their take on a ghost hunter’s death, and appreciated getting to see more of the team at work. For this show to succeed long-term, they can’t use Carrie’s skill as a handicap every case. I was happy to see Carrie have several flashes, but they also did some good old-fashioned police work as well.

ive had to stop watching glee. i would end every episode feeling angry, unfulfilled, and just wanting to smack all the writers. the last episode i watched all the way thru was 3×04. Since then I’ve only watched some musical scenes (b/c i hate the writing, not the singing) and some scenes involving Kevin McHale (which are way too few and far between).
I wish more people would just cut the cord and stop watching. Then maybe the ratings would go down. If not, at least a lot more people would live happier and less stressful lives.
