NBC News and Notes From TCA: COMMUNITY, THE VOICE, SMASH and More
January 6, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
It’s NBC TCA day, which means there are a lot of things being said about your favorite shows. Check out some of the biggest news, courtesy of executive Robert Greenblatt and a few timely press releases…
COMMUNITY — “I want to dispel any notion that it’s just quietly disappearing from the schedule,” Greenblatt said. But if you were looking for it to return to its old Thursday at 8 PM slot, Greenblatt was a bit more hesitant: “I don’t know if it makes sense to ask it to start off the night again.”
As for a potential fourth season? “Those are really hard questions to answer at this point,” he noted.
PRIME SUSPECT — If you think you were disappointed about the failure of PRIME SUSPECT, know you weren’t alone.
“I spent several weeks in the Fall trying to find an audience for PRIME SUSPECT…and came to the conclusion — it was a painful one — that we weren’t going to get it.” Greenblatt admitted.
SMASH — One of the biggest shows NBC is debuting this midseason is the drama, SMASH, which is centered around the makings of a Broadway musical. However, Greenblatt was reluctant to place too much weight on the success of the show.
“I think SMASH is going to be very important to us,” Greenblatt said. “[But] I don’t believe it’s a make or break kind of show for us. We’re proud of it and what it could do.”
THE VOICE — The sophomore series of the singing reality show has signed some big name advisers to assist the mentors. Team Adam has landed Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke, Team Blake has Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert, Team Cee Lo has Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Ne-Yo and Team Christina has Lionel Richie and Jewel.
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE — Martin Sheen, Marisa Tomei, Blair Underwood, Reba McEntire, Rob Lowe, Helen Hunt, Rita Wilson, Edie Falco, Rashida Jones, Jerome Bettis, Jason Sudeikis and Paula Deen have signed on for the third season of the Lisa Kudrow-produced series.
BETTY WHITE’S 90th BIRTHDAY — Ellen DeGeneres, Morgan Freeman, Tina Fey, Ray Romano, Seth Meyers and Tracy Morgan are the latest celebrities to be added to Betty White’s birthday bash.
And in case you missed the LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT news, make sure to check out who will be playing Olivia’s new love interest.
