Erika Slezak Talks About Her 40 Years on ONE LIFE TO LIVE
January 13, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
For ONE LIFE TO LIVE fans, very few people personify the series more than Erika Slezak, who has spent more than 40 years playing Viki, Nikki, Jean, etc. But now, with OLTL ending, it’s time to say goodbye.
I sat down with Slezak at OLTL’s final press day in New York late last year to talk about the important relationship that stood out to her, the anticipated transition to an online network, and her decision to sign on when the show moved to an Internet production. (Since those interviews took place in early November, Prospect Park announced they would no longer be going forward with those plans.)
Slezak and I talked in a fair amount of detail about why she chose to continue on with the soap if it was moving online, and while those plans may have fallen through, I felt it was important to include it in this piece. The actors truly believed going into the final days of shooting that they would be continuing on, and it’s unfortunate they won’t be.
