About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, TOUCH, and ROYAL PAINS
January 26, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
It was a rerun heavy Wednesday, but Fox and USA Network helped make the television offerings at least entertaining.
Let’s talk about last night’s TV!
Apparently 30 people got “golden tickets” when AMERICAN IDOL hit Aspen, but boy, it certainly felt like we saw a lot of stinkers in the hour. Probably my least favorite audition episode of the season so far.
When I first saw the promos for TOUCH, I was so excited about the show’s potential. After I finished watching the pilot, I still was really excited about the Martin and Jake storyline (which, by far, was the highlight of the pilot), but I found myself frustrated with many of the surrounding stories that Jake ended up tying together. I didn’t care about the boy trying to get an oven for his family. I didn’t care about the wannabe singer. (I did, however, care about the father trying to find his cell phone with the pictures of his deceased daughter in it, even if it did feel a bit far-fetched.) My concern now is that, yes, while I like Martin and Jake and the central storyline, the supporting stories that are introduced every week need to draw me in. I’ll be tuning in when the series returns in March for its regularly scheduled run, but I’m much more hesitant than I was pre-pilot.
I don’t see how ROYAL PAINS could realistically make it work to have Jack be on the show full-time, but I really wish there was a way. Not only is his flirtation with Jill enjoyable, but his friendship with Hank is fun. (Well, aside from the whole lupus thing…that scene at the end hurt my heart.)
What did you watch last night? Do you think I’m being too tough on TOUCH?
