About Last Night… THE BIG BANG THEORY, AMERICAN IDOL, PARKS & RECRETION and More
January 27, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
Thursday night TV! A crazy night, and given that many networks were in reruns, it’s pretty telling I still ended up watching four shows.
So let’s talk about what went down…
Raj “dating” Siri might be one of my favorite plot lines THE BIG BANG THEORY has ever done. I just couldn’t stop laughing. Sheldon and Amy’s vodcast was also amazing, and I hope that’s brought up again at some point. (Pretzel costume optional.) I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other about Leonard and Penny, so that actually might have been what appealed to me the least, but I think it was still a strong episode.
I’m fairly new to PARKS & RECREATION, but Ron Swanson bowling was amazing, as was his frustration over Tom’s technique. Ben decking the jerk for being aggressively mean to Leslie cemented him as Permanently Awesome in my book, and I’m glad it made a difference in Leslie’s poll numbers.
AMERICAN IDOL was memorable for all the wrong reasons for me last night. Skylar was talented, but I can’t deal with the dead deer on her wall. And did the male judges make a bet about turning away talented singers? I found myself agreeing with Jennifer Lopez (for possibly the first time in my life) about how insane their choices were. Heck, Steven and Randy were turning away the hot girls who could sing!
Willa didn’t bother me as much on THE FINDER this week (which is a significant improvement), but I still feel this nagging sensation that the show doesn’t necessarily fit on Fox. It very much feels like a quirky USA show that is being slightly held back by the fact that it’s on a regular broadcast network. Case in point: last night’s Cinderella dream, which felt like one of the more outlandish things I’ve seen on network television since ABC’s PUSHING DAISIES. But when the show doesn’t constantly have that tone, it can be a little jarring.
What stood out to you last night?
