About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, SUBURGATORY, MODERN FAMILY and More
February 23, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
A relatively easy Wednesday night!
Let’s talk about what aired last night…
So far on AMERICAN IDOL, I feel like I only care about three of the contestants who went through — Reed Grimm, Colton Dixon, and Heejun Han. And really, IDOL, you’re better than these cheesy cliffhangers. Or at least you used to be.
I’m going to pretend SUBURGATORY didn’t stoop to The Situation stunt-casting, because the rest of the episode was so good. Yoni was fun (albeit, a little Fez-like), and the Dalia revenge fantasy for Tessa was just deliciously evil and surprisingly thought-out. I hope the show can stay this consistently funny.
Oh, I laughed too hard at Cam falling on MODERN FAMILY. Phil and Haley dealing with him finding out that she wasn’t a virgin was unexpectedly sweet. It’s not a surprise MODERN FAMILY has heart, but given how that topic could have been mined more for comedy (and there certainly were some jokes), I appreciated they handled it the way they did. (Manny driving? Amazing.)
LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT has always been dark, but the episode last night was one of the most disturbing hours the show has done. Hunting your victims in the woods? Ewww. And burying them on the beach? Man, that just seems like trouble waiting to happen. I am really excited about the return of Liv’s brother next week.
Still didn’t get to ROYAL PAINS, but I’m hoping the season ended strong.
