About Last Night…ONCE UPON A TIME, THE WALKING DEAD, GCB and More
March 5, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
It’s kind of crazy that it seems like Sunday night will be the busiest night of the week.
A bunch of shows aired last night, so let’s talk about what went down…
While last night’s episode of ONCE UPON A TIME doesn’t appear to be hugely important in the overall scheme of things, I adore the hour. Grumpy! And we got a little more backstory into the fairies, too. I still wonder how they’ll be able juggle all these characters and stories as more and more are introduced to the canvas, but for now, it works.
Unless I’m mistaken, they didn’t mention “El Barto” during Bart’s graffiti escapades last night on THE SIMPSONS, which is a bit disappointing. Oh well.
I still hate how much they ruined Orson on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, but I’m almost glad he mailed whatever he did to the police. There are only a handful of episodes left and if they’re going to unleash this secret, I’d rather they do it sooner versus later.
Sure, there was a heck of a lot of foreshadowing for Dale’s death on THE WALKING DEAD, but man, that’s unfortunate. He was the only one who would consistently stand up to Shane and I’m going to miss that. It also means a major plot from the comics won’t come to be, so I’m very interested in how the show is going to further differentiate itself from its source material. (I’m fine with the journey we’re on right now.)
I’m very curious to hear what you guys thought of GCB. I know a lot of people were in a huff about being insulted before they saw the pilot, so was anyone insulted? Personally, I found it fun — this isn’t a show that should be taken super seriously (or should take itself super serious) — but I also realize I’m not in the key group of people that would be insulted.
What did you think of last night’s TV?

Ok, so I wish I could say I liked GCB…but I didn’t. Let me qualify that statement with the fact that if anyone was going to be offended by this show, it was probably going to be me, as I live in the Dallas area and have never cared for the “Housewives” mentality of TV shows. But I wanted to give the show a chance, so I checked out the pilot. Unfortunately, I didn’t really laugh at all and didn’t find any of the characters likable or someone I was wanting to root for.
The most amusing moments for me were the ones that were Dallas-specific, such as the house that was next door to the airport (and that they used a Southwest plane!), the comment about moving to Fort Worth or Waxahachie, and not wanting to travel on I-20. Especially because people really do have that mentality here. But in my opinion, it’s not worth sitting through 40 minutes of TV just to find those few moments.
With that said, I completely understand why the show would appeal to people, but it’s just not for me (hey, you’re not going to please everyone). And just because I don’t want to end on a negative note, I think I love each episode of Once Upon A Time more and more, and I cannot wait to see Red Riding Hood’s story next week!
