About Last Night…DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, THE WALKING DEAD, ONCE UPON A TIME and More
March 12, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
Death, death and more death! What a depressing way to kick off the week. At least we got some good TV out of it?
Let’s talk about what aired Sunday night…
Did you guys like the wolf reveal on ONCE UPON A TIME? Personally, I loved another pretty drastic twist on the story we already knew and I chuckled a bit that Red’s boyfriend was named Peter. (That has to be a wink to the story, “Peter and the Wolf,” right?) Whose heart do you think was in the box in the woods? We know Regina has a whole room of them, so it could theoretically be anyone’s right?
I was definitely amused by THE SIMPSONS‘ take on INCEPTION. Loved that we got to see Mona briefly, and I wish Homer’s amusement park was real. (I would so go on that roller coaster.)
As much as I adored the BOB’S BURGERS season premiere, I’m very curious to hear what those of you who are familiar with THE GOONIES thought of it. I haven’t seen the movie (I know, I know), but apparently it was a homage?
Oh boy, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. I went to some pretty extreme lengths to avoid being spoiled on the big death — seriously, I think everyone I knew who still watches the show had the death ruined for them pre-air, whether they sought it out or not — and while Mike was one of the people I absolutely did not want to lose, I’m so glad the impact of his death wasn’t ruined for me. (I still wish the person who kicked the bucket was Carlos or Lynette, but oh well.) There were a couple subtle signs earlier in the episode that Mike or Susan might be the one to go, but the glaring red “yep, this is definitely happening” light starting blaring when the duo shared a pretty perfect moment on the porch, and he reiterated how much he loves her. I honestly can’t remember crying at this show before, but man did I lose it when they started the flashbacks. I’ve been watching the show since the pilot, so to see those moments and to have it reinforce that after all the obstacles, Mike and Susan wouldn’t be having their happy ending they fought so hard for…it hurt. And in that regards the show was smart — would it have sucked as much if it had been any of the other husbands? I’m very curious to see where they go from here, though, because with so few episodes left, it seems very unlikely that Susan will get any sort of happy ending.
I know a lot of people are speculating Jenner told Rick at the end of last season of THE WALKING DEAD that everyone was already infected, but if that was the case, wouldn’t he have known to shoot Shane’s brain after he killed him? That final showdown was fantastic and arguably the best scene the series has ever done. While I’ve been ready for Shane to die for a bit, there’s no denying he was an incredible presence, so the shape of the show going forward will be interesting. Minor pet peeve: I have pretty good vision, and yet it is nearly impossible to see this darn show. In order to watch the last 20-ish minutes of the episode, I had to literally turn off all the lights in my home. I get atmosphere, etc, but really, it shouldn’t be that difficult to view an episode on television.
I still have FAMILY GUY, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, AMERICAN DAD and GCB to watch, but those might be saved a little bit.

Loved the unexpected and brilliant twist on OUAT and also caught the “Peter” reference.
Haven’t watched DH yet (The Good Wife wins that timeslot for me!) but saw the end…don’t worry though, it wasn’t really a spoiler as I too heard about the death. Still interested to see the episode as a whole to see all that lead up to it.
GCB had a solid second hour…not great tv but good fun.
