SUBURGATORY Creator Emily Kapnek Teases James Ingram’s Guest Spot in the Season Finale
March 21, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
SUBURGATORY hasn’t been shy about using music for comedy (the dancing to B-52’s “Rock Lobster” in “The Casino Trip” — which coincidentally happens to be reairing tonight at 8:30 PM on ABC — is probably my favorite so far), and it seems there is more to come when the show finishes out its freshman year.
I spoke with SUBURGATORY creator Emily Kapnek after her “Showrunners SuperSession” panel at Tuesday’s Television Academy Foundation TV Summit, and she teased that fans of her comedy should expect some more music magic in an upcoming episode.
“We have a really funny guest star in the finale…the Mother’s Day episode,” Kapnek shared. “We have James Ingram singing! We have a Mother’s Day thing and we got James Ingram to come play himself and sing and it’s strange and really funny.”
So what brings Ingram to the suburbs?
“He winds up being Shelia’s favorite recording artist, so Fred brings him in,” Kapnek explained. “It was really funny to have him on set, singing his ‘One Hundred Ways’ song.”
Of course he does.
