GLEE: 7 Thoughts/Teases About ‘The Break Up’
October 4, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
There’s been a lot of buzz about tonight’s episode of GLEE, and as someone who fell in love with this show from the pilot and has (sometimes reluctantly) been along for the ride since, for me, it deserves it all.
“The Break Up,” quite simply, is great. It doesn’t rely on guest-stars or massive stunts to get that way, either. It just takes what we loved about the show from the first season (unlikely relationships that make our heart soar, real problems, and great music) and mixes it all together.
While I absolutely do NOT want to spoil the hour for you, I did have a lot of thoughts about what went down, so I figured I can tease a few things…
- After not seeing much of several of the graduating seniors this season, it was nice to see Santana and Finn have actual arcs in “The Break Up.”
- If you can, go into the episode with the songs unspoiled for you. While not every single song directly spoils what’s going on, I think it’s better to go into the hour as pure as possible because the music does tie into the plot in a way the show hasn’t always succeeded at.
- At least one of the musical numbers may destroy you a little.
- Whether you like the outcome of this episode or not, hopefully you can at the very least feel like the heart and soul were pumped back into the show. I found myself caring about virtually every storyline/character for the first time in a while.
- There’s talk of a new high school musical and I really hope it plays out.
- Apparently “Left Behind” is a big fad at McKinley which is a little hilariously tragic. Many of the younger kids take part in some “LB” shenanigans.
- Yes, there is at least one break up.
Will the show sustain the momentum? I don’t know. I’ve mostly enjoyed the new season and tonight’s episode feels like a massive turning point. Hopefully you can enjoy it, too!
