THE VOICE: Trevin Hunte on Making the Top 12

The top 12 contestants on THE VOICE have been chosen, and for at least one contestant, the reality of it all is just starting to sink in.

“Yeah, it’s beginning to get in my head,” Team CeeLo’s Trevin Hunte told me at the top 12 party last week. “I feel like I’m still trying to digest the fact that I made it to the top 12. I feel like it was the longest wait of my entire life [on stage as they were announcing finalists]. I was super excited to be there.”

“A whole bunch of thoughts were going through my head [as I was up there],” Hunte added of the dramatic pause before his name was called. “I just wanted to be here. When [THE VOICE host Carson Daly] called my name, I was so excited.”

And while Hunte has been an early favorite on the series due to his memorable battle duet with Amanda Brown, he admitted he feels the pressure to live up to that performance.

“I feel like it’s always a major pressure to always step on stage and do good,” he said. “That’s what I signed up for: to go on stage and perform and show people what I can do. I’m up to the challenge as long as I’m here. I don’t have a dream song, but I want to show people I’m not only a strong ballad singer. I want to show people I can do a big jam…I feel like everyone in the competition is really talented and everyone has a big chance of winning.”
