Thanksgiving 2012: What Television-Related Things I’m Thankful For
November 22, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
It’s the time of year when we take note of what we’re thankful for, and I find myself thankful for a whole lot of things this year.
Instead of boring you guys with a list that’s 100 items long (because I could have done that), I narrowed it down to a few of the television things I’m most thankful for.
I’m thankful for…
- HOMELAND. The series was my unexpected top television show of 2011, and I was a teensy tiny bit concerned that the sophomore season wouldn’t live up to the fantastic first year. I was wrong. Season 2 has upped the stakes in nearly every conceivable way with many of the episodes leaving my mouth agape and wondering where the heck it will go next. I’m so thankful for this fantastic series.
- Additionally, I appreciate the lack of sophomore slump for ONCE UPON A TIME and SUBURGATORY.
- FRINGE getting proper closure. Whether we end up loving, hating, or being downright confused about how the series concludes, I’m glad this epic tale will get told the way the writers intend, versus them having to make a designed-to-be-season-finale work as a series-ender.
- Comedies being on an upswing. When I think of the shows that make me just genuinely happy to watch television, more often than not, it’s my comedies. Between the newbies (BEN AND KATE! GO ON! NEW NORMAL!) and the vets (SUBURGATORY! PARKS AND RECREATION!), I’ve been laughing a whole lot this year.
- (Did I mention I’m really thankful for HOMELAND?)
- ARROW being the breakout drama of the year. So deserved, and I’m so thrilled.
- PARKS AND REC’s Ben Wyatt and his perfect proposal and lovely present to his fiancee.
- Music on TV that gives me chills.
- What MOONLIGHTING curse?
- AWAKE. It may not have lasted, but I’m glad we had the experience.
- Similarly, I may have only seen the pilot for THE FOLLOWING, but right now, I’m thankful for the excitement it’s stirring up in me. I just can’t wait to see more.
- It may sound cheesy, but I’m thankful for each one of you, whether you’re reading this list or not. You guys help make this entire surreal job even better.
But enough from me…what are you thankful for this season?
