FRINGE’s Anna Torv: Now That She Knows the Truth, Olivia’s Going to Have to Buck Up
December 5, 2012 by Marisa Roffman
FRINGE’s Olivia Dunham has gone through quite the ride this season: after initially being reunited with her (now-grown) daughter, Etta, and estranged husband, Peter, things turned tragic when Etta was gunned down. And while Olivia reached out to Peter so the duo wouldn’t let their daughter’s demise separate them (again), what she didn’t know what he had taken the drastic step of implanting Observer tech in an effort to beat the people responsible for Etta’s death.
But with Peter rapidly losing his humanity, he (inadvertently?) clued Olivia into what he did and what he was up to after she stumbled upon his wall of crazy. And now Olivia will have to figure out where to go from here.
So what’s a woman to do?
I spoke with FRINGE star Anna Torv (Olivia) at an event for the show’s 100th episode/finale, and she teased a bit of Olivia’s mindset going forward in these final hours…

great actress
Yes, I also think things are not very good for Olivia, in these hard years of the future. If I were her, I’d think seriously about going back to the present (2015) or even to the past (2012 or …), because as things stand now, it is truly very difficult for Olivia Dunham , find a definitive way to your happiness. I may be wrong, but Olivia, this chaotic future, it seems that she has not been found, is a little lost, going as the stream of events to lead. The Olivia Dunham, not only that, now presented, is much, much more, than a mere wife of Peter Bishop, no doubt.
Zepp, “Olivia is not a mere wife of Peter bishop” , you would feel better if Peter was the mere husband of Olivia Dunham, wouldn’t you?
No, not sincerely, Savvybutterlilw, I would not like if it was Peter, the “mere husband” of Olivia, definitely not. What I meant is that Olivia, this 5th season, the most I could see it, is the dedication of a wife, with her husband Peter, and nothing more. We no longer have that Olivia was going through universes, fought for his ideals, was a brave warrior, taking in the fights ahead Fringe team, and their emotional issues, came later. In other words, I would not want that both Olivia, as Peter, were turned in Olivia who is there, what it is now. Olivia now, only appears in secondary attitudes, is just one element of support in fights, seems to be only concerned with Peter, and when he expects a strong reaction her all this, as it was one of the characteristics of her in other seasons, just nothing happens on her part. For me, Olivia and Peter, at the end of Fringe, which would stand shoulder to shoulder, side by side, with the same importance, a couple with a same level of prominence, and that’s not what I’m watching, long before the otherwise.
I love this woman so much. I am going to miss you Anna so please come back to us soon.
