Some Thoughts on the Golden Globes 2013 Nominations

December 13, 2012 by

The Golden Globe nods are notoriously all over the place, and while, really, logically I know it’s one of those things I should smile and nod at, I do have a few thoughts about what names were — and weren’t — called out this morning…

  • To the surprise of absolutely no one, I’m thrilled to see HOMELAND, Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, and Mandy Patinkin get some award show love.
  • SO happy to see EPISODES get recognized. A completely underrated show.
  • How do people (correctly) recognize the brilliance of Amy Poehler and neglect to nominate PARKS AND RECREATION for best comedy?
  • I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate “Best Supporting Actor/Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie” being lumped together, but I’m pleased there’s at least a good degree of variety this year. Too often it feels like TV movies dominate.
  • Unfortunate that 2012 Emmy winners Aaron Paul (BREAKING BAD) and Julie Bowen (MODERN FAMILY) were snubbed here.
  • Hey, Golden Globes, I promise there are decent network drama series. Really.
  • SMASH…sure?
  • I can get behind one of those NASHVILLE nominations.
  • I will continue to be sad that John Noble (FRINGE) gets snubbed for long-overdue awards love.
  • As much as I enjoy DOWNTON ABBEY, I’m glad the Globes didn’t overdo it with nods.

So, which nods have you excited? Upset?

They totally missed out Once Upon a Time and Emily Deschanel for Bones, but I’m happy about the number of noms for Downton Abbey.
Meryl Streep, Maggie Smith and Judi Dench in one category? That’s awesomeness!
