While some fans may have been bummed out by Cece and Schmidt’s breakup on NEW GIRL, it seems like the duo are headed in a new direction in the show’s second season: they may actually be — gasp! — friends.

Of course, being friends with your ex can be complicated (and/or hilarious), and when I sat down with Hannah Simone, she previewed a little bit of what the duo will be up to in the show’s second season…

While the Fox Tuesday comedy block officially launches on September 25th, fans of RAISING HOPE are going to have to wait one more week to get their fix of the Chance family. (That is, if you haven’t already viewed the episode on Twitter.)

But to help make the time go by a little faster, how about a preview of what’s to come in season 3 from series stars Martha Plimpton (Virginia) and Garret Dillahunt (Burt)? I sat down with the duo recently to talk about their upcoming guest stars, what that means for their characters, and why Maw Maw may be in trouble…

Comments Off on ‘We Have Thoughts’ Vodcast: Danielle and Marisa Talk About the Disappointing Comedies

Well, there certainly were some…interesting comedies this season.

My friend Danielle Turchiano (from Made Possible By Pop Culture) and I already shared the new comedies that we’re enjoying the most, so it’s only fair to talk about the comedies that make us cringe. And while we probably could have fit a few more in here, we restrained ourselves and it kept it down to three shows…

Comments Off on BEN AND KATE: Nat Faxon, Dakota Johnson, and Maggie Elizabeth Jones Talk About Their New Show

I’ve made no secret of how much I adore the new Fox series BEN AND KATE, and tonight, the series officially debuts on television. (Hopefully by now you had the chance to watch it online, so the viewing on Fox will simply be you rewatching the first episode.)

I sat down with series stars Nat Faxon (Ben), Dakota Johnson (Kate), and Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Maddie) to talk about the reaction they’ve been getting to the show so far, what love interests will do to the family dynamic, and…pigeons?!

I sat down with series star Zooey Deschanel (Jess) to talk about what she feels has changed since last year, what will happen when her characters loses her job, and more. Plus, Deschanel weighs in on whether she wants Jess to find a real love soon…and why she thinks Nick/Jess need to wait a bit before they couple up.

The premieres of BEN AND KATE and THE MINDY PROJECT may have been online for weeks, but it’s finally time for their official Fox debuts. Also, NEW GIRL returns, and ABC/CBS get back in the mix, too.

Take a look at all of your options!

The Voice | 8pm on NBC
“Blind Auditions Continued”
Carson Daly (“Last Call with Carson Daly”) hosts week three of the vocal competition series, featuring an exciting array of talented vocalists as they compete to be selected by one of the coaches and fight for a chance at an opportunity to win the title of being named “The Voice.”

Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC
“Episode 1501A”
The night will kick off with live interviews with Tom and the cast, offering an in-depth look at why each celeb has decided to return for another chance at winning the coveted mirror ball trophy. Global superstars Justin Bieber and Pitbull will hit the stage for unforgettable musical performances. Also during Tuesday night’s show, we will have a spectacular opening number featuring all the pro dancers of the season and The Troupe to a medley of “I Wanna Dance with Somebody/Dance Again,” choreographed by Jason Gilkison. The Troupe will return later that night to perform a number to “Go Get It,” which is also choreographed by Jason Gilkison. And before night’s end, the season’s first couple will be eliminated from the show.

New Girl | 8pm and 9pm on Fox | Season Premiere/Special Time
“Re-launch”/”Katie”
Schmidt throws himself a “rebranding” party at which Jess, recently fired from her teaching job, volunteers to be a “shot girl,” alongside a very jaded cocktail waitress (guest star Parker Posey). Meanwhile, Winston shows a different side of his personality after drinking some of Nick’s fruity concoctions, and Cece introduces the gang to her new boyfriend (guest star Nelson Franklin).

Later, mistaken identity abounds as Jess inadvertently captures the attention of a beer delivery guy (guest star Josh Gad) and then pretends to be someone else when a handsome stranger (guest star David Walton) thinks she is his blind date. Then, a regular at Nick’s bar (guest star Raymond J. Barry) claims to be Nick from the future, and Winston’s disapproving mother (guest star Anna Maria Horsford) comes to visit, all the while maintaining her hatred of Schmidt.

NCIS | 8pm on CBS | Season Premiere
“Extreme Prejudice”
Harper Dearing’s latest act of terrorism ripped through NCIS headquarters in last season’s cliffhanger finale, sparking a cross-agency manhunt for the criminal mastermind.

Ben and Kate | 8:30pm on Fox | Series Premiere
“Pilot”
Exuberant dreamer BEN FOX (Nat Faxon) returns to his hometown and reunites with his younger sister KATE (Dakota Johnson), an overly responsible single mom raising her five-year-old daughter, MADDIE (Maggie Elizabeth Jones). But when he arrives, he finds a sad state of affairs. For the first time in their lives, Kate needs Ben’s help, and he’s determined to bring some much-needed chaos into her stable world. In the series premiere, Kate enlists co-worker BJ (Lucy Punch) to help her prepare for what turns out to be a disastrous first date, while Ben teams up with childhood pal TOMMY (Echo Kellum) to stop an ex from getting married.

So much more. Keep reading…

BONES Recap: ‘The Partners in the Divorce’

September 24, 2012 by

Hey BONES fans! You know, I was thinking after the premiere that Booth has a tendency to use sex/affection to gloss over tough situations. Of course, in season 6, I happily attributed it to the fact that his relationship with Hannah was mostly physical…but now in season “washing machine sex” 8, I want it to be because he loves Brennan a lot. Hypocritical, I know, but there it is! This isn’t a knock on Booth at all — I think touch is one of his “love languages,” so he’s being genuine with his affection. Likewise, I thought his “I was hoping it would be [okay] in the future” line spoke volumes about his normal way of processing tough stuff, yeah? And Brennan’s fierce passion for truth vs. politeness there also rang true. But…I’m getting ahead of myself. First, let’s talk about the rest of the episode!

Did you think the wait for the FRINGE season premiere couldn’t get any longer? Think again.

The new trailer that Fox has released for the cult series’ fifth and final season will make you a) tear out your hair as you count down the minutes, b) yell at your computer screen, c) drink heavily, d) configure a device to make time move faster, or e) …I don’t know. I’m guessing there are some other creative things you guys are doing. (I may or may not have done option “B.”)

BONES Recruits SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’s Mary Murphy, Tyce Diorio, and Dmitry Chaplin to Guest Star

September 24, 2012 by

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE may have just concluded on Fox, but some of the stars of the show will soon be popping up on BONES — Fox has confirmed that Mary Murphy, Tyce Diorio and Dmitry Chaplin will appear in an upcoming episode of the Fox drama that centers around Booth and Brennan going undercover in a ballroom dance competition.

According to TVLine (who was first to report the casting), Murphy and Diorio will be playing themselves and Chaplin will be playing a fictional dancer. (Fun fact: This isn’t the first time a former SYTYCDer has guest starred on BONES — tWitch appeared in the season 6 episode, “The Bones That Weren’t.”)

Are you excited to see how Booth and Brennan tackle their time on the dance floor? And do you think Mary Murphy will get to talk about her hot tamale train?!

BONES airs Mondays at 8 PM on Fox.

THE MOB DOCTOR: Josh Berman Teases What Comes Next

Comments Off on THE MOB DOCTOR: Josh Berman Teases What Comes Next

When THE MOB DOCTOR’s first episode concluded, Grace Devlin had made the move from quasi-unwilling accomplice (as the person responsible for her brother’s debt to the mob) to an active participant in what’s going on (after she declined the option to relocate and instead transferred the debt she owed from the now-dead Moretti to Constantine).

I spoke with THE MOB DOCTOR creator Josh Berman before the show’s premiere, and I told him it fascinated me that Grace had essentially doubled down on her commitment to doing something so ethically questionable.

“I love that you used the expression ‘double down’ because that’s exactly what she did,” Berman said. “I think so many shows start where your hero is already your anti-hero: whether it’s Glenn Close in DAMAGES or House [in HOUSE], your hero is already unlikeable. I love an origin story. And if Grace is going to be the mob doctor and if she is going to be an anti-hero one day, let’s see how she got there. And that’s what the end of the pilot is doing — it’s starting her journey. And I want the viewers to get to see what it’s like to become something as opposed to watching a TV show where you already are something. And that’s what I’m going for.”
